GT Sport will include three game modes: "Campaign", "Sports Mode" and "Arcade Mode". Both offline and online racing will feature in the game.

The game has been described as different from the "Prologue" titles seen in the past in the series and will feature more content. Unlike its predecessors, the game does not feature dynamic weather and day-night cycle. However, players still have the option to modify the race's time of day before entering the race.

Sony shutting down online support for online games in 2014

PlayStation 3 will stop online support for several games in 2014. Gran Turismo 5 support will end on May 20, 2014. The Resistance games Resistance: Fall of Man, Resistance 2, and Resistance 3online support will close on March 28.

On Monday, 05 September, 2011, Formula 1 ace David Coulthard was thrilled to take victory in an innovative Mercedes-Benz virtual v. reality race staged simultaneously at two locations in Surrey, England. Driving a real-life 6.3 litre V8 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, ‘DC’ completed a 15 minute shoot-out around the Dunsfold track, home to BBC Top Gear. Up against him were six drivers in the virtual Gran Turismo 5 version of the SLS AMG racing on the same track but from the comfort of Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands in Surrey.
