Sony's PlayStation 2 launched in Japan nine years ago today, ultimately going on to sell over 140 million consoles and, now, entering its tenth year on the market. Japan's launch of the PlayStation 2 brought with it a half-dozen generation changing games, even if most were largely forgettable. The launch line up on March 4, 2000 consisted of Street Fighter EX3, Kessen, Ridge Racer V, Eternal Ring, DrumMania and Stepping Selection.
The 1.3 patch resolves the Vista sound issues that accompanied the last update and enables players to record and view multiplayer matches, among other changes. Oh, and it's an incremental patch, so you'll need to have installed the 1.2 update to apply 1.3.
What happens when you beat Resident Evil 5? While I can't tell you everything you unlock, I can reveal that a new mode becomes available. Mercenaries mode, popular among RE4 players, is back. Mercenaries is a timed survival mode where you not only need to worry about staying alive, but must lay waste to infected villagers as quickly as possible to rack up a high score. There are ten playable characters for Mercenaries Mode, though only BSAA Sheva and Chris are available at the start. Now, when I say ten characters, what I really mean is ten different skins. You will, in fact, unlock different versions of Chris and Sheva along with a few other surprise characters. Each character skin comes with its own weapon set, which can't be changed. BSAA Chris rocks a powered-up shotty and handgun, while Sheva has a sniper rifle and submachine gun. Part of Mercenaries mode is figuring out strategies for earning S rankings with a specific set of items.

Sony's redesigned PSP is rumored to be getting a new look. But all changes to this portable gaming device, expected to be released later this year, are largely cosmetic.
The biggest change to the PSP's design is a sliding screen; as shown in a mock-up from VG247, it slides up to reveal various controls that are hidden beneath it when closed. new PSP, dubbed the PSP 4000, may be "significantly smaller in width," because of the new design, Eurogamer says.
According to reports, the PSP 4000 will have to be in the open position to play full-featured games, but there's no word on whether the rumored design includes game controllers or a keyboard underneath the screen. The 4000 may also allow you to play basic games, like LocoRoco, using the shoulder buttons (the L and R buttons at the top of the device) when the screen is closed.
This latest rumor comes after last week's news that the PSP may let go of its UMD drive to offload more bulk from the game system. Instead of the disc drive, Sony may look to sell games through the online PlayStation Store or perhaps even on Sony Memory Sticks. If the rumors are true, then the 4000 is a significant step forward for the PSP; however, the new PSP will still be based on current PSP tech with no improved graphics or gaming features. That being said, with the PSP 3000 and these new rumors, it's refreshing to hear about PSP updates that go beyond new colors, various entertainment bundles and incremental firmware updates.
The rumored release date for the 4000 is late 2009, and may be followed by a PSP2 in 2011 or 2012.
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has released a patch for the PC-DVD version of its Silent Hill Homecoming.
The download resolves an issue related to the changing of graphic resolutions, and is automatically applied when the game is installed for the first time.

According to reports, a decent amount of gamers are claiming that the GTA IV DLC is freezing up on them. One user reports that the game froze on him 6 times in just one hour and a half. Apparently, there are many more reporting similar problems.
However, bulldog907 has only tried the game for a little over a hour, but he had had to restart it more than he would have liked:
“Yup I’ve had the game freeze like 6 times in the 1.5 hours I’ve played it. It’s really frustrating. I’ve had it freeze at different points (once during a mission, once in Burger Shot, once just driving, etc). I have a 60GB Xbox360.”
The list goes on and on. If you head over to the forums right now, you’ll see the absurd number of users who are dealing with this lousy issue.
Thankfully, some people have cleared the cash on the Xbox hard drive and it worked. But for many, the problem still persists.
We should mention that many, if not most of the gamers who downloaded the DLC have not encountered the freezing dilemma. Nonetheless, it sounds like an abundant amount of folks who purchased the content are having an unnecessary problem that must be addressed by Rockstar…and soon!

First episode in live action interactive horror series revealed.
Hysteria Project. The game is the first ever live action interactive series, which follows in the tradition of classic horror/survival movies such as Friday the 13th, The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield – only this time, you’re the one being hunted. “Lots of games have attempted to blend film with gameplay before, but we never really felt as though it’d been fully achieved,” says Bulkypix CEO Vincent Dondaine. “With Hysteria Project, we wanted to create an experience that was as immersive and gripping as any good horror movie, but allowed people to make decisions that quite literally affected the character’s life. What’s great about the horror genre is the powerful emotional effect it has on the audience – it forces the viewer to take part in the onscreen events, and we’re simply taking that concept to the next level.”
Hysteria Project blurs the distinction between audience and player. Viewed from a first person perspective, users awaken in an old cabin, bound and confused. Escaping into the woods, they find themselves stalked by a mysterious and shadowy axe-wielding figure, and it takes a careful eye for detail and fast reactions to stay one step ahead of the mute killer.
The beautifully cinematic experience is interspersed with decisions the user must make to survive. Do they run for their lives, or try to find a hiding place in the terrifying woodland amidst the killer’s booby traps? But these decisions go beyond a choice between turning left or turning right – the hunted player must use the iPhone’s unique touchscreen capabilities to search the surroundings for weapons, to avoid traps and to defend themselves, all while attempting to solve the mystery of the strange symbol burned into their forearm that guides them through the chilling environment.
“In order to reach the largest possible audience and ensure we don’t exclude any gamers intrigued by the notion of a live action interactive series, we structured Hysteria Project carefully to make sure it packed in the scares, but leaves gore to the imagination,” continues Dondaine. “But this wasn’t at all restrictive, as the audience’s imagination is a horror story’s best weapon when properly manipulated. With an intricate and haunting audio accompaniment, we’ve been able to craft a wonderfully atmospheric experience that will provide all the tension and thrills of a great horror movie, with the action of an engaging adventure game that’s accessible to everyone.”
The pilot episode represents the introduction of the first ever interactive horror series. Future episodes will uncover the terrifying circumstances established in this groundbreaking inaugural episode, which will give both gamers and film fans a whole new entertainment medium packed with the superior horror action and storytelling today’s discerning, yet jaded, audiences demand.
A completely unique and powerful experience, Hysteria Project uses the multimedia and interactive strengths of the iPhone platform like no other game or movie. The pilot episode of Hysteria Project contains 30 – 40 minutes of playable footage for the low price of $1.99, and will be available from the App Store imminently.
Six Additional Tracks from Countries throughout Europe and the James Bond Theme Song Further Add to Guitar Hero World TourÃs Downloadable Content Set List This month, gamers will again be able to expand their virtual set lists with over a dozen new downloadable tracks for Activision Guitar Hero World Tour. With over 37 million songs downloaded for the franchise to date, Guitar Hero fans will soon be able to experience more awesome music – from the likes of English rock ‘n’ roll icons Queen, guitar legend Jimi Hendrix, a host of European superstars and more – which will join the more than 550 songs rocking the Guitar Hero catalog already.
On March 5th, Guitar Hero World Tour’s global music library will continue to grow with three additional tracks from some of Europe’s greatest bands. The third European Track Pack, which includes the hit song “Break It Out” by Italian pop punk band Vanilla Sky and “In the Shadows” by one of Finland’s most successful bands, The Rasmus, will also contain “C'est Comme Ça” the top single from French pop rock duo Les Rita Mitsouko’s 1986 album The No Comprendo.
As a follow-up to the third European Track Pack, rockers from the Netherlands, Germany and Spain will also be contributing to Guitar Hero World Tour’s increasing catalog of downloadable content. On March 19th, the Dutch symphonic rock/metal band Within Temptation takes the virtual stage with “What Have You Done,” the first single off their fourth studio album The Heart of Everything. Joining them are German punk band Die Toten Hosen, who made their debut appearance in Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock, playing an encore as part of the full band experience with their 1988 hit “Hier Kommt Alex” and Spanish rock band M-Clan with their classic song “Carolina.”
Already appearing as an in game playable character; on March 19th, guitar savant and music legend Jimi Hendrix returns to Guitar Hero World Tour’s stage once again with an extraordinary three song Track Pack that will set fans fingers ablaze as they strive to keep up with his intense guitar riffs and insane solos. The second Jimi Hendrix Track Pack features “Freedom” and” Angel,” two hit singles off of his First Rays of the New Rising Sun album, and a one of a kind 1969 live from Woodstock recording of the timeless classic “Foxey Lady.” Additionally, the songs from the first Jimi Hendrix Track Pack – “If 6 was 9,” “Little Wing” and “Fire” – will also be available on March 19th as downloadable singles for Wii™.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Queen, one of the greatest and most influential bands of all-time, take center stage on March 26th with downloadable content for Guitar Hero World Tour. The three song Queen Track Pack contains some of the band’s most iconic tracks including the power ballad, “We Are The Champions,” which has become one of the most common anthems celebrating the ultimate victory, as well as “Fat Bottomed Girls” from the 1978 album Jazz and “C-lebrity,” from their 2008 album with Paul Rodgers, The Cosmos Rocks.
On March 26th, Bond aficionados and Guitar Hero rockers alike will have another reason to celebrate as Guitar Hero World Tour releases a new recording of the classic James Bond theme song as downloadable content.
The two European Track Packs, Jimi Hendrix Track Pack and Queen Track Pack will be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 440 Microsoft Points and on the PlayStation Store for the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system for 5.49 euros / £3.99. The songs in the two European Track Packs, Queen Track Pack plus the James Bond Track will be released as downloadable singles for Xbox 360 for 160 Microsoft Points, PLAYSTATION 3 system for 1.99 euros / £1.59 and Wii for 200 Wii Points each. The Jimi Hendrix tracks will be available as downloadable singles for Wii for 200 Wii Points.
Dante still has his huge sword and his signature twin pistols, Ebony and Ivory, but since the first game, he has picked up quite a few nice tricks. He can now run on walls, kick while being in the air and shoot in different directions at the same time. You have also received a side kick, the beautiful Lucia, who is as skilled as Dante when it comes to combat, although she prefers knives to fire weapons.
The level of violence in the game is high and this, coupled with the quick paced action sequences, made it a best seller and the series continued to thrive with the biggest addition being Devil May Cry 4, launched in 2008.
Glitches
Big jump
There is a glitch in the stairwell where Dante obtains the Flame Heart. This is performed easier in Devil Trigger mode. It can also be done with the Rocket Launcher (not in Devil Trigger). At that staircase, there is a way to jump from the bottom near the door almost to the top door. Stand at the bottom of the ledge where the staircase drops off, and hold Toward the camera so Dante will flip when he jumps. Press Jump, and as soon as you release it, fire as fast as possible. If done correctly, he will finish his jump on higher stairs.
Invisible walls
During mission 22 when you are approaching Mundus while he is in statue, go to the right or left side of the room. You will find that there are invisible walls trapping you in. You can wall-jump off these invisible walls.
The entertainment and video games rental store group Blockbuster is close to collapse say national reports.
The world's largest film-rental chain is under pressure due to competition from mail-order services. Bloomberg had reported earlier that Blockbuster, based in Dallas, was looking at the possibility of filing for bankruptcy. Another turnaround option would be to take the company private.
Blockbuster recently launched a TV set-top media player that downloads films for instant viewing. It also signed up to a partnership with Sonic Solutions, a video publishing company, to enlarge its library
Blockbuster has a $350 million revolving credit facility that is due to be repaid in August. The company is attempting to refinance that debt, plus a $28 million term loan.

Worms Armageddon Decade has been launched 10 years ago for the Nintendo 64 and the PC, providing a wide variety of weapons that the player could choose from to eliminate his enemies and become the last worm standing in a variety of levels filled with puzzles or destroyable objects.
Don't forget that this isn't the only Worms games available for download on the Xbox Live Arcade, as XBLA Worms has also been launched a long time ago, but didn't become as popular because the creators at Team 17 needed to leave out a lot of weapons due to the size limit of 50 megabytes that was imposed back then. Hopefully, we'll hear something concrete from either Microsoft or Team 17 soon.
WiiWare gamers can download Family & Friends Party - the game was created by Gammick Entertainment and it's perfect for crowds, as it supports up to eight players. The title is rated E, which means it's safe for kids, and costs 1,000 Wii Points. A digitized board game, teams are formed and players compete in order to be the first to complete all the challenges offered by the game. Each challenge is aimed at one or two players from each team, with the others playing a supporting role. The are also six challenges, called “Single,” that need the cooperation of the whole team, while “Versus” challenges are played by all the teams at the same time.
Plus Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen was initially playable on the Super NES gaming system. It costs just 800 Wii Points. The game is pretty complex, combining hundreds of characters that you can interact with, magic items with varied powers, weapons and tarot cards, which are some sort of global powers. The plot evolves around the Zetegenian Empire and its subjugation of the Kinggoms of Zenobia. As the leader of the last band of rebels, the player has to throw off the shackles of slavery and defeat the evil empire.

For the second time in 2009 CipSoft banished more than 5000 Tibia accounts for cheating.
CipSoft continues its effort to eliminate all cheaters from Tibia. After a first wave at the beginning of February, CipSoft now banned another 5163 accounts for the use of unofficial software.
“Cheating is a nuisance for any multiplayer online game.” says Florian Eckert, responsible Product Manager at CipSoft. “For Tibia it is exceptionally annoying as its community has grown for over 12 years and during that time established a well balanced equilibrium.” Eckert continues. “We cannot and we will not tolerate any unfair interference to this.”
The use of unofficial software - generally referred to as ‘cheating’ - gives players an unfair advantage over others by automating tricky tasks or even controlling the whole character in game. Identifying players who use such programs can be a hard task as the used software is designed to imitate natural behaviour.
CipSoft relies on a home made tool in order to identify the users of unofficial software automatically. “We are 100% confident about the accuracy of our tool.” says Matthias Rudy, Lead Programmer at CipSoft. “We now know exactly who is cheating, how they are cheating and when they are cheating.” Rudy reveals.
Once identified, cheaters have to face severe consequences. Depending on their ‘criminal record’ some of the cheaters are only excluded from the game for a certain period of time. The accounts of other more intractable cheaters will be deleted completely.
When asked about CipSoft’s future plans and policy concerning cheating, Eckert admits “We’ve already pulled the trigger once, now we’ve pulled it a second time. It seems like we start to get the hang on it.”
Tibia is one of the oldest MMORPGs worldwide. It is online since 1997 and currently has a subscriber base of 120,000 players.
Alawar Entertainment, a leading international publisher of casual games, today announced the release of "The Enchanting Islands." The new match-three adventure combines the best qualities of a fairy tale with a simple city simulation. In "The Enchanting Islands," a young lady attempts to free five magic islands from the curse of an evil witch, who has turned the once lush and verdant realms into barren wastelands. To accomplish this important task, the player must collect the alchemic ingredients needed to return life to these formerly beautiful places. Between levels, the player can exchange the ingredients for upgrades, giving rise to meadows bursting with color, blossoming sakura trees and towering oaks. Each improvement will increase the population of the islands and have a renewing effect on the environment.
The goal of each level is to collect a certain amount of resources within a limited amount of time. Players must create matches of three or more identical elements to fill their reserves, earn bonuses and win boss battles in which matched ingredients fall on the head of the invading monster.
"The Enchanting Islands" features stunning graphics and exciting gameplay. In addition, the desire to save the islands is meant to motivate gamers to continue playing and come back time and again.
"The developers of 'The Enchanting Islands' stuck to the most popular trends in casual entertainment while making the gameplay truly unique," said Denis Sedovich, producer. "They did an extraordinary job, and I believe players everywhere will give the game an enthusiastic reception."
