The Lost Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure in US stores

Got Game Entertainment Ships "The Lost Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure" to Stores Across North America

Spines tingle and hairs raise as a ghostly new suspense-adventure game for the PC haunts retail shelves this week

Got Game Entertainment LLC today announced that the “The Lost Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure” has shipped to North American retail. Created by adventure gaming legend Jonathan Boakes (“Dark Fall”, “Dark Fall II: Lights Out”) and his Darkling Room team, this highly anticipated suspense-adventure game for the PC combines a dense, rich, spine-tingling story inspired by classic ghost stories with today’s modern ghost-hunting techniques. With an intuitive interface which allows players to wield the tools of a paranormal investigator, an impressive cast of 3D characters, actual E.V.P. (Electronic Voice Phenomena) recordings, and photographs of unexplained entities captured by Boakes while researching the game, “The Lost Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure” brings a frightening story to bone-chilling life.

Inspired by the works of Charles Dickens, M.R. James, Arthur Conan Doyle, and E.F. Benson, “The Lost Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure” finds ghost-hunters Nigel Danvers and Lucy Reubans investigating a tale of horror and haunting along England's fog-shrouded coastline, famed for its legends of smugglers, pirates, and ghosts. In a cinematic, richly detailed interactive world, part black and white, part vivid color, and against a dramatic backdrop of wind-swept coastlines and crumbling crypts, players are captivated, taunted, and teased by mind-bending puzzles and interactions with the town locals, earthly and otherwise. Skills at ghost-hunting and detecting paranormal activity directly affect how the game continues. While there are those who seek to prevent the disturbance of that which is buried, for those players with nerves of steel, and wits to match, discovery of long lost secrets, previously known only to the dead, awaits.

“A classic ghost story, whether old or new, should have us believe that something ‘unexplainable’ surrounds and influences us,” said creator Jonathan Boakes. “And, if we are lucky, it should scare us into realizing that there truly are ‘more things in heaven and earth’ than the absolute skeptics would like us to believe.”

“The Lost Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure” includes the following features:
Spine-tingling ghost story
  • Realistic ghost-hunting, featuring actual E.V.P. (Electronic Voice Phenomena)
  • Photographs of unexplained entities captured by creator Jonathan Boakes while researching the game
  • Chilling original soundtrack
  • Point and click gameplay with both first and third person interaction
  • Cast of virtual actors to share your paranormal adventure
  • Local legends to investigate, interrogate, and observe
  • Realistic and integrated puzzles

“The Lost Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure” makes its retail debut at $29.99 (USD) and is rated “T” for Teen by the ESRB for Alcohol Reference, Blood, Mild Language, and Violence.

Warriors Orochi's gargantuan cast of legendary Warriors on PC & Sony PlayStationPortablePSP

THE BRAWL TO END ALL BRAWLS SPILLS ONTO PC & PSP

Warriors Orochi's gargantuan cast of legendary Warriors decide to meet after school for the mother of all scraps. Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

KOEI today announced the release of Warriors Orochi on PC and PSP. For the first time in the history of the multi-million selling Warriors’ series Warriors Orochi combined the entire casts of both Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors for one almighty tear up. Now, this pulsating recreation of historical battlefield action is coming to the PSP (PlayStationPortable) System and PC and will be available to buy in store on March 28, 2008.

“Having received so much feedback from fans who were desperate to have the full Warriors console experience in a portable format we’re really pleased to now be able to give them exactly what they’ve wished for.” Said Will Curley, Sales Manager for KOEI Europe. “For the first time on PSP the huge battlefields from the console versions of Warriors Orochi have been recreated and crammed into a portable gaming experience along with the entire cast of characters. Warriors Orochi is a massive step forward for Warriors games on PSP and we’ve been really impressed with just what we can do on PSP. Bringing our unique brand of tactical action to PC is also a very significant move for us as we look ahead to achieving much more on this platform. Warriors Orochi is just the first step as we look towards a number of new releases on PC in the coming months.”

About WARRIORS OROCHI

Warriors Orochi boasts an amazing roster of 77 playable characters from both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises, while four action-packed “crossover” storylines unveil events where characters from either series are pitted against one another.

The game’s new “Team Battle System” and “Weapon Fusion” push Tactical Action to a whole new level. For the first time in KOEI’s Tactical Action games, players can create their own three-person tag team. At any given time, one warrior will be engaged in battle, while the other two are recuperating; restoring their Life Meters and Musou Gauges. Every character is categorized according to offensive ability, and with new fighting techniques, it’s up to the player to find the most lethal combination of warriors. “Weapon Fusion” lets players combine the attributes from different weapons for more devastating results.

Dark Sector – Multiplayer Features on Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft XBox 360

Game Types - Dark Sector's multiplayer is broken up into two distinct game types: Infection and Epidemic.

Infection - The Infection game type is a match between Hayden and the Lasrian military. One player assumes the role of Hayden while all others (up to nine) assume the roles of Lasrian Troopers. Hayden is considered the infected target, and it is up to the Troopers to bring him down. Once Hayden is brought down (“finished”), the Trooper responsible becomes infected and a new round begins. A match will run until either time expires, or a set number of points are reached. The ultimate goal of an Infection match is to have the most number of points when the match is over. Points are granted to Troopers by either stunning Hayden, finishing Hayden, or assisting in bring Hayden down and points are awarded to Hayden by killing Troopers (Troopers can lose points by committing suicide).

As a Trooper, the player will be armed with either an assault rifle or a shotgun, have a couple grenades, and one proximity mine. Troopers can only attack Hayden, and so they can either work together (communicating via a shared chat channel) or go solo. In order to bring Hayden down, they must inflict a set amount damage which will stun him, and then, while he is stunned, perform a “finisher.” The Trooper that performs the “finisher” becomes infected and plays as Hayden in the next round.

As Hayden, the player has no allies, but is armed with a Tekna 9mm, the Glaive, all three Evolutionary Powers, and any weapons dropped by the Troopers or lying around the various maps. Hayden also has access to the elements fire, ice, and electricity (depending on the level) to use against the attacking Troopers.

Epidemic - The Epidemic game type is a team based match between the Lasrian military, and the Agency. Players are divided into two teams where (on each team) one player assumes the role of Hayden, and all others assume the roles of Troopers. Matches end based on a time limit, or point total, and rounds end whenever a Hayden is brought down. Team points are awarded whenever an opposing team brings down the other team’s Hayden, and individual points are awarded to players based on kills and assists (players can also lose points by committing suicide). Players can only communicate with other players in the same team, and can only attack players on the opposing team. Both the Troopers and the Haydens retain the same functionality they have in the Infection game type.

In both game types, players will respawn at designated spawn points when they are killed.

Multiplayer Customization

On the X360, MP games can either be played using Xbox Live, or System Link. On the PS3, MP games can either be played on the Playstation Network, or LAN.

Each multiplayer game type supports up to ten players and has access to five different maps. The maps are unique in size, detail (such as weather effects), and layout. For example, the map called the Deck promotes a more close combat oriented play style, whereas the Court promotes a more team-based play style with its symmetrical layout and numerous opportunities to surround opposition. Multiplayer games can also be customized in terms of time limit, number of players, score limit, and the existence of bots.

Leaderboard

A Leaderboard is available for both the PS3 and the X360, however the X360 board uses TrueSkill™ rank and the PS3 uses a traditional scoring system. A player’s score on the board (either PS3 or X360) is based on the multiplayer game performance game performance.

PS3 vs. X360

Both systems will allow players to create, join, and search for multiplayer games. However, only the X360 gives players a Quick game option, a Custom game option, and a Ranked game option. The Quick game option will pick a game for the player based on their preference of Infection or Epidemic. The Custom game option allows players to set up their own games with the customizable settings of time limit, score limit, number of players, and the availability of bots. Ranked games are directly linked to the X360 Leaderboard. A player’s performance in a Ranked game will determine their position on the X360 Leaderboard. The PS3 allows players to search for or create multiplayer games.

OGPlanet Offers Full-Service MMORPG Using Free-to-Play Model

OGPlanet, an innovative provider of multiplayer online games, today announced the North American commercial launch of CABAL ONLINE, a full-service massively multiplayer online game that already boasts nearly 1 million players in more than 12 countries throughout Asia and Europe .

"The launch of CABAL ONLINE is a huge event for us," said David Hoffman, Executive Producer for OGPlanet. "The beta testing periods were met with a very positive reception, and we're anxious to watch CABAL's popularity in North America grow. We're thrilled to be able to provide an MMO of this caliber under a free-to-play model."

Although CABAL was developed with a subscription-based model in mind, OGPlanet is offering the game under a free-to-play system, consistent with the company's model. An option to purchase in-game items does exist, but the purchasable items will not be integral to the gameplay experience.

"It is important to us to find a balance ensuring our players the full experience of CABAL Online without paying a penny," said Hoffman. "The items purchasable by Astros, our OGPlanet-wide in-game currency, will give players ways to make it from 'Point A' to 'Point B' more quickly, but won't give them any sort of permanent advantage over players who might not have the budget to utilize the Cash Shop. We're very pleased with the result: a free-to-play MMORPG with everything you would expect from a subscription-based game."

“Pitchfork Media is a respected and reliable part of the independent music community and an integral part of the lives of hundreds of thousands of music enthusiasts worldwide,” said Tim Rosa, director of brand and lifestyle marketing at 2K Sports. “This is the first time Pitchfork Media has partnered with a videogame publisher, which is exciting since we share the same dedicated passion for highlighting new artists and being involved in independent music. We’ve always respected their impeccable taste and no-holds-barred voice in the music industry because it complements our approach to games – we both want to push our respective industries further by supporting independent substance over mainstream smoke.”

Exclusive: Major League Eating: The Game to Debut as Wii Ware on Nintendo Wii

Major League Eating: The Game to Debut as a WiiWare Exclusive

Video game publisher Mastiff announced today that their upcoming title, Major League Eating: The Game, will makes its debut as an exclusive on WiiWare, Nintendo's new downloadable game service for the Wii console, which launches May 12 in North America. The game will make extensive use of the Wii RemoteTM to simulate the fast and furious action of a professional eating competition.

"Watching Major League Eating is like watching poetry in motion" says Bill Swartz, Head Woof at Mastiff. "Professional gurgitators have the grace of ballerinas yet the brute strength, mental focus, and intestinal fortitude to push their bodies and minds as hard as athletes in any other extreme endurance sport. Victory is sweet and defeat can be well, really, really messy. It's an experience we're proud to help bring into the home."

The game features the world's greatest gurgitory athletes competing across a variety of foods and venues. Built much like a classic fighting game and deeper than a Chicago style deep-dish pizza, MLE: The Game requires players to master a smorgasbord of offensive and defensive weapons including bites, burps, belches, mustard gas and jalapeño flames while cramming and chewing food at a world-class pace. It's not for the faint of heart, the slow of reflex, or those with an overly strong aversion to a Technicolor reversal of fortune.

Major League Eating: The Game uses the Wii Remote to simulate a variety of eating techniques including the cram, toss, and 'typewriter.' Burp-offs and Hot Potato challenges during the contests keep the competition intense and eaters on their toes.

Major League Eating: The Game is for one or two players, offers online play and a leader board.

Major League Eating, the professional league which oversees all top eating events in the nation, including the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, counts among its members Takeru Kobayashi, the Japanese eating phenomenon, and American Joey Chestnut, current champion of the world.

Nexon America Delivering Open Beta for Fantasy Role Playing Game, Mabinogi

Nexon America Delivering Open Beta for Wildly-Successful Fantasy Role-Playing Game, Mabinogi

Exclusive Open Beta to Launch March 5 at FilePlanet.com

Nexon America Inc., the U.S. division of Asia’s leading online entertainment company Nexon Group, delivers the open beta for Mabinogi, its free-to-play, massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), on March 5. Slated for release later this spring, users can create their own personal “Fantasy Life,” by signing up for the open beta during an exclusive 24-hour play period at FilePlanet.com or afterward at http://mabinogi.nexon.net.

Open beta users will tap into a world that has already birthed a civilization of more than seven million fans in Asia, and will retain these characters through the commercialization of the game. With over 30,000 users signing up for the recent closed beta, the open beta should prove a similar success providing players an opportunity to discover a beautiful 3-D, cell-shaded art style, featuring anime-type characters and gruesome monsters.

The open beta delivers users numerous new areas to visit, including more dungeons to explore. It also offers North American players a first chance to burrow into new game skills such as cooking, enchanting, meditation and composing music.

These are just the first phases of Mabinogi’s deep, online universe, where players experience all facets of fantasy life. Dazzling 3-D graphics boast an art style based in Celtic and Welsh mythology, which also gives Mabinogi its name and foundation. Mabinogi provides a new experience with its gameplay variety, unique combat system and orderly time element and age component, to provide additional depth to Nexon’s latest free-to-play offering. In addition to traditional MMO features – challenging adventures, exciting group quests and a plethora of fearsome monsters – Mabinogi offers a much fuller “life” for its players. Players can increase experience by taking jobs, such as cooking, shearing sheep or other farming duties. The game’s unique music program allows users to write and share music in MIDI formatted files.

Mabinogi’s traditional mouse and keyboard functions unite with its distinctive combat, and anthology of game-play styles, that should excite the most hardcore gamers. Players will also quickly discover Mabinogi requires more finesse and strategy during combat than just pushing a few buttons and haphazardly attacking everything in sight. The unique fighting system, which emulates paper, rock, scissors, adds another degree of complexity. Characters develop skills in three categories— Combat, Life, and Magic—so users can not only gain experience by fighting a giant spider but also by cooking dinner and learning a new spell. Players acquire Ability Points as they gain experience in the game to help show progression. This gives players more freedom to play Mabinogi however they choose.

Additionally, Mabinogi’s time is standardized, allowing for users who play longer to earn different “daily” bonuses as incentives. Plus, avatars age on a weekly basis and get taller as they get older (up to 17). Avatars gain ability points up to the age of 25 as well. Plus, players will see their avatars’ diet affect appearance. Mabinogi also features a long-term storyline that is revealed over a series of generations and weaves its way throughout the game. Using these unique features, as well as the heavy socialization aspect present in all of Nexon’s games, gives Mabinogi a unique placement in the world of MMOs. And like Nexon’s previous offerings, the game is free to play.

Microsoft publish amateurs game on XBox 360

James Silva is one of the amateurs changing how the $40 billion video game industry defines fun.

The 26-year-old from Utica, N.Y., paid his way through college by scrubbing dishes at a diner. That job might help him become the Quentin Tarantino of video games: He used it as inspiration for The Dishwasher, in which the title character becomes a ninja and slashes his way out of a kitchen overrun by villains.

Microsoft Corp. agreed to publish his stylized action game on the Xbox 360 console and highlighted it at the Game Developers Conference here recently. More than 16,000 people, many of them novices with similar ambitions, attended the show.

"This has been my dream since forever," Silva said in an interview. "It sounds cliche, but I actually have to pinch myself just to make sure I'm really awake."

He's not alone. Much as YouTube is giving unknown video auteurs a chance to find audiences, the video game industry is opening its doors to upstart developers. Major companies including Microsoft and Sony Corp. are starting to snap up and promote games by amateurs and independent developers as an antidote to the soaring budgets of mainstream games.

Highlighting the shift, the conference's Game of the Year award went to Portal, which was developed by a team of students from the DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond, Wash. The puzzler beat out big-budget industry franchises such as Super Mario Galaxy, Rock Band, Bioshock and Call of Duty 4.

"The lines between the professional developer and the community are beginning to shimmer," said Jamil Moledina, the conference's executive director.

A few years ago, aspiring programmers such as Silva wouldn't have stood a chance. The games business has adopted the movie industry approach of spending big in search of huge hits. Creating a single new game can require tens of millions of dollars and more than 100 developers working several years.

But a recent proliferation of easy-to-use and cheap or free software has made it possible for a programmer with a good idea to make games at his home.

There's a market for those games now. Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo Co. have built online stores where millions of players can buy and download games via Internet-connected consoles, bypassing traditional retailers that refuse to stock anything but blockbuster titles.

Take Kyle Gabler. In 2005, he created the prototype for a game called World of Goo in four days.

Gabler, 26, and Ron Carmel, 35, started their own shop, 2D Boy. They refined World of Goo on five-year-old laptops. The result, a wacky cartoon world where players make structures out of goop to solve puzzles, won awards for technical excellence and design innovation at last week's conference. Nintendo has signed the game to sell through its Wii Ware online store.
