DEXTER is the story of Dexter Morgan, a forensic blood spatter expert for the Miami Dade Police Department who is secretly a serial killer who hunts down people who have escaped justice. The iPhone videogame based on DEXTER is a mystery game emphasizing investigation and problem solving - the player will analyze crime scenes, uncover evidence, and choose which brand of justice best suits the situation: the courts or the “Dark Passenger”. The effectiveness of every choice and interaction revolves around the Code of Harry: only kill the guilty, maintain the Mask, and, above all, don’t get caught! The game is now in development with Icarus Studios, a company that is leading the way in massively multiplayer online games, virtual worlds, and mobile entertainment experiences.

"I am so excited to have Icarus Studios on board to develop the DEXTER iPhone game,” said Marc Fernandez, Vice President of Marc Ecko Entertainment. “From the second we began this project we wanted to throw everything we had at it, that's exactly why we wanted Icarus Studios as a partner - a 100 person plus developer focusing their technology on making the DEXTER game the best it can possibly be."

“DEXTER is a fresh and cutting edge series with elements that are perfect for a handheld videogame, so we are thrilled by this opportunity,” said James Hettinger, CEO of Icarus Studios. “We are also extremely pleased to be working with Marc Ecko Entertainment and Showtime on this project. They are masters of entertainment and brands, so we could not be in better hands.”

Resident Evil on Nintendo Wii - fans will be very happy soon say Capcom

resident evil 5 nintendo wiiThough we're usually reticent to make a connection between ravenous undead hordes and happiness, Capcom's Resident Evil franchise has proven adept at uniting dire consequences with gaming euphoria. With Resident Evil 5 set to launch on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 13th, Wii owners may have felt somewhat left out of all the neck-chomping fun.

While submitting that Resident Evil 5 "pushes the boundaries of graphics and gameplay," Capcom's Associate Product Marketing Manager, Matt Dahlgren, had something more to say when prodded about a Wii version. "It was made for the Xbox 360 and PS3," he told our correspondent, Xav De Matos, at a recent Capcom event in Toronto. "That being said, Nintendo Wii fans will be very happy very soon."

"For the past 18 years I have been playing Street Fighter in all its guises and versions,” says Dave White. “For me and millions of others it's more than just a videogame, it's a total obsession and way of life. Something more akin to the complex structure of chess, every match is different and every second offers chances and possibilities, risks and drama. That's why I play."

• The Daily Telegraph

Cities XL populous problems...

cities xl populusThings would be easy if your indomitable will was all there was to managing a city. However, you will have to take into consideration the fact that your city is home to independent entities that make their decisions based on their own interests and not necessarily on yours! We call these entities the private sector and there are two types: citizens and businesses.

3.1 Citizens
Citizens will calculate their satisfaction levels based on four criteria: work, prices, services, and living environment. Work will incorporate salary scale (there are 4), unemployment rates, and commuting times. Prices will incorporate the cost of resources and, most importantly, taxes. (We have already discussed services and living environment in a previous blog). Citizens who are unhappy may decide to move house or, worse, to leave the city altogether. The average satisfaction level of the citizens will determine your city’s reputation and therefore its ability to attract new citizens and to grow.

There will be four levels of qualification available to citizens: unqualified worker, qualified worker, white collar, and executive. These in turn will relate to four affluence levels. Improving the affluence of your city will require you to first improve the overall level of qualification, to provide appropriate employment, and to increase general satisfaction. That’s your challenge!

3.2 Businesses
Businesses will also be independent agents. How well or badly they do will depend on conditions in your city. They can make losses and even go bankrupt! Your city’s reputation will depend on the profit margins of the businesses established there. This reputation will be important, as it can prevent new businesses from setting up if it’s not high enough. Don’t expect to attract new hotels if all the existing beds aren’t taken!

There will be five types of private business: offices, hotels, stores, leisure, and factories and farms. Each type will have its own logic and its own reputation. It will be possible to have a good industrial reputation while at the same time having a bad shopping reputation. Finally, each type will also have different affluence levels (luxury hotels, high-tech factories, etc.).

3.3 The Mayor and his means
The mayor will have access to 3 types of action. First of all, he will set taxation levels. These taxes will reduce the population and business satisfaction levels but will provide him with the means to run his city!

Using tax revenue, the mayor will be able to pay for public services (police, electricity, etc.). These services are very expensive but will meet some of the expectations of citizens and businesses.

Finally, and most importantly, the mayor will need to manage the urban space. He will have to decide where to place roads and transport infrastructure. He will decide where to locate industrial and residential zones. The city’s growth will depend on how well laid out it is.

3.4 It’s getting complicated
You think that’s everything? Not at all! There are two more complications to come for your gaming pleasure! First of all, you will be able to use the GEMs to develop certain industries from within your city (starting with a ski resort and a beach resort). These GEMs will make it possible to expand into areas that are difficult to build on (mountains and beaches), they will increase your city’s size, and they will allow it to produce the new resources and needs (e.g. winter sports) that your citizens demand.

Secondly, don’t expect to build a city that can do everything! In fact, it’s by linking up with other players around the planet, exchanging products, and sharing tasks that you will experience the full flavor of Cities XL!

Wheelman demo on Xbox Live now - PlayStation 3 on March 12th

Wheelman video game
Midway and Ubisoft announce that an official Wheelman demo will be available worldwide for download exclusively on the Xbox LIVE online entertainment network beginning March 5, 2009 at 6 a.m. PST. The Wheelman demo will be available for download on the PlayStation Network on March 12.

Combining spectacular Hollywood-style stunts with a gripping storyline, Wheelman provides an adrenaline-fueled, cinematic thrill ride. Vin Diesel stars as an undercover agent and highly skilled driver who must infiltrate the Barcelona underworld to gather intelligence surrounding a covert heist. Posing as a driver-for-hire, he ends up caught in a crossfire of corruption and chaos while trying to stay one step ahead of local law enforcement and rival gangs.

The Wheelman demo features a custom-made mission introducing the player to the special moves that only a master Wheelman can pull off. Spin into a Cyclone while precision shooting at enemies or leap from vehicle to vehicle at breathtaking speeds to AirJack your enemy’s car. Once the player has completed the custom-made mission they will unlock two side missions: 'Made to Order' and 'Street Showdown.' Each of these side missions will be playable three times before the demo finishes. While the finished game will allow you to freely roam a virtual version of Barcelona – the cultural capital of Europe – in an open-world environment, this demo has been created to highlight only a small section of the actual game world.

Wheelman is scheduled for a March 24, 2009, ship date in North America and a March 27, 2009, street date in Europe for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Windows-based PC.

Capcom working on Street Fighter HD Remix patch for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360

Details of the patch I announced a while ago. We've been working on it for a while and it's getting ready to be released in the next few weeks. Which means, we have a confirmed list of the issues that we were able to fix in a patch.

Please keep in mind, there are technical limitations to what a patch can fix, so we fixed as many as we could given these limitations. I know many users requested patching Akuma, but we didn't touch any balancing this time. This is mainly because I think the jury is still out on him. Sure, he's pretty powerful, but I don't think it's been 100% proven yet that he's unbalanced. I'm not saying that he's definitely balanced, but before we start tinkering with the balance, we want to make sure we're making the right move.

A big thanks to all you guys that were diligent in reporting the bugs that they encountered. Also, a big shot out goes to "The Furious One" who was a big help in compiling bugs and especially to "zerojay" who took his testing experience and actually created a bug data base to help organize the bugs.

Without further ado, here are issues that the patch fixes:

  1. After a number of games, the HUD will be corrupt. Yellow lifebars will freeze, the round counter flags will all be on, and the names will show more than one name. (Both)
  2. Frequent disconnects during VS transition screen. Often caused by selecting START color of character. (Both)
  3. Title crashes if user has a large friends list and tries to access the friends list (PS3)
  4. Rating being set to "0" and from then on, rating remains at "0". Once that patch goes live, we'll reset all leaderboards/scoreboards. (Both)
  5. Vega sometimes causing desyncing, especially when using the fake wall dive. (Both).
  6. Lobby list containing full rooms instead of only rooms that users can enter. (Both).
  7. Zangief Super Motion not working on both sides and in both directions.
  8. During the start of the match, there is slight slowdown. This has been minimized as much as possible. (PS3).
  9. If connecting to a ranked match through the quick match function, it is best out of 3 rather than best out of 5. It should always be best out of 5.(Both)
  10. Sending messages via XMB during a game causes a freeze. (PS3)
  11. Players not added to "Players Met" list. (PS3)
  12. Analog and D-pad can accept input at the same time. (Both)
  13. Player stats not reporting correctly.

Fallout 3 PC patch improves graphics - download it now...

fallout 3 patchThe nondescript Fallout 3 update released to PC and Xbox 360 owners earlier this week has quietly restocked the 360 version with missing visual effects.

According to Eurogamer's Face-Off maestro Rich Leadbetter's blog, Inside Digital Foundry, the auto-update patch introduces specular maps to certain areas, delightfully illustrated with shots of bugs and a comparison video.

The Xbox 360 version was the better of the two console releases when Fallout 3 released in late October last year, but as Leadbetter points out, "despite its superior frame rate and full-on 4x MSAA, [it] had flaws of its own - notably some inferior textures when viewed close up, along with a lack of specular maps on the monsters and characters, resulting in a somewhat flat look compared to the other versions of the game".
