Hosted today by Reggie Fils-Aimé and Harold Goldberg, the New York Videogame Critics Circle celebrated the best in gaming at the 10th annual New York Game Awards held virtually for the first time. The organization bestowed its highest honor, the Big Apple Award for Best Game of the Year, to the action RPG, Hades from Supergiant Games. Winning over the critics, Hades took home multiple awards, including the Herman Melville Award for Best Writing in a Game, the Tin Pan Alley Award for Best Music in a Game and the Off Broadway Award for Best Indie Game. And, it’s not just music, writing and game play that stole the hearts of the video game critics, as the acting in the game was honored with the Great White Way Award for Best Acting in a Game for Logan Cunningham’s role as Lord Hades, Poseidon, Achilles, Charon, The Storyteller and Asterius in Hades. ‘The Warehouse’ level was created by Yaky, a longtime community creator with multiple popular maps under his belt. The level features a unique ambiance that recreates an outdoor skatepark in an indoor setting. Palm trees dot the terrain, along with traditional street and skatepark elements including configurations of ledges, hips, rails, and quarter pipes. The level has been visually optimized by Easy Day Studios, with all geography or features staying true to the creator’s original vision.
