CaTHaRSiS ~The last of atelier~, an immersive art adventure from solo developer Mana and publisher Kodansha Creators’ Lab, wanders through worlds within wondrous works of art on PC via Steam in 2026.
A nameless being awakens in an empty world with zero knowledge of humanity. Amidst the bright white void, a mysterious voice calls out, beckoning the being towards mankind’s greatest illustrations to understand the nature of the soul.
Ten iconic paintings hang in the quiet, acting as doors to alternate dimensions where memories frozen in time can be experienced like never before. Explore lush 3D landscapes inspired by the works of master painters such as Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, Gustav Klimt, and more across a vivid journey that changes from 3D exploration to side-scrolling and even serene boat rides.
Step through the canvas into the amber alleys of Van Gogh’s Café Terrace at Night, the emerald meadows of Monet’s Woman with a Parasol, the gilded passion of Klimt’s The Kiss, and more iconic works, each with its own viewpoint and playstyle. Immerse within these works, experience the emotions captured within, and piece together the memories they hold.
Enlist the help of two companions on this journey toward enlightenment: the wolf, a wild symbol of instinct and wildness, and an owl who symbolizes wisdom and reason. Uncover new depths to each painting with the wolf’s speed and the owl’s flight, slowly filling your empty heart with color, light, and beauty.
“One of the guiding principles for CaTHaRSiS was the ability to experience famous works in brilliant new ways,” said solo developer Mana. “Viewing them from within a reimagined interpretation of each scene, you’re able to immerse yourself in the atmosphere and memories embedded in each painting, which offers an experience you can’t get by simply walking through a gallery or museum.”
CaTHaRSiS ~The last of atelier~ will launch on PC via Steam in 2026 with language options in English and Japanese. Wishlist it today...
