Wizard 101 video game anniversary and five million players

wizard surrounded by magic booksWizard101, the magic-themed Massively Multi-player Online game (MMO), is celebrating its one-year anniversary this month. KingsIsle Entertainment, the maker of Wizard101, is proud to announce that during this time more than five million players from around the world have registered for the game. As part of the celebration, several decorations are being added to the game in September as well as a special surprise for all players.

Wizard101 combines the social interaction of online multi-player games with a parental control system that allows adults to restrict communications options for younger players, while allowing more freedom to older players. These safeguards, combined with the no-cost, downloadable distribution model have resonated with consumers looking for new ways to have fun on a budget.

“Quality family entertainment doesn’t have to be expensive,” said J. Todd Coleman, creative director of Wizard101. “The success of Wizard101 clearly shows that it is possible to produce a fun and challenging game that is both wallet-friendly and appropriate for all ages – and that it’s something people are looking for in these tough economic times.”

Wizard101 can be downloaded at www.Wizard101.com and offers free game play for as long as players choose. Additional worlds and in-game items can also be purchased through pre-paid cards or a monthly subscription fee. New worlds, activities, pets and Wizard gear are periodically introduced to the game, creating an ever-changing world with new things to do and see.

Wizard101 players enter the magical world of Wizard City as student Wizards setting out to hone their Wizard skills, cast spells and summon powerful creatures to fight evil forces. The characters and worlds of Wizard101 are influenced by literature, history and pop culture, giving the game a depth and quality appreciated by families and players of all ages.
