Joymax announce the winners of the North American qualifying rounds for the 2009 Game & Game World Championship (GNGWC). Amidst fierce competition from a 16-player field, Darrel Espinoza emerged victorious in Los Angeles for the second year in a row and again earned the right to represent North America in the global finals.
Broken down into three, single-elimination rounds, the qualifying match sent players to the dark and dangerous Donwhang Cave and tasked them with the destruction of everything within. Monsters, unique spawns, and other contestants were all fair game as players brought their skills to bear in an attempt to earn the most points.
As time ran out in the third and final round, every player’s thoughts turned to survival above all else. They were surrounded by the toughest foes they’d faced all day, and a single death at the hands of a competitor potentially meant the difference between victory and defeat. The match went right down to the wire, but when the dust had settled Darrel once again stood atop the leaderboard as the North American Silkroad Online champion.
Darrel’s first-place finish was closely followed by Kyle Lazarus in second. The two of them will travel to Busan this November to compete for global fame and a share of $27,000 in total prize money!
“Everyone on the Silkroad team would like to congratulate Darrel for his unprecedented repeat victory,” said Rob Alvarez, Community Manager at Joymax. “He and Kyle will be up against an elite group of players in Busan, and we wish them both the best of luck.”
