The sound of BioShock is here

More in game audio! Elizabeth at 2K Games heard me talking about how I want to post more game audio on my site. Thanks to her, I have a little bit of BioShock audio to share with you. These are nice clean audio files, taken directly from the digital master files used to create the game. The files includes my personal favorite: audio from the vending machine. Longtime listeners of my show will recognize who puts the voice and attitude in said machine

Vending Machine: Circus of Values (long)
Vending Machine: Circus of Values (short)
Vending Machine: Come back when you get some money…
Vending Machine: I’ve got a family to feed
Vending Machine: No Refunds
Gatherers Garden
In the Garden…

All files have been encoded at 256k MP3.

Free DLC Now Available for Unreal Tournament III

Midway and Epic Games have announced that three new maps are now available for download for Unreal Tournament III on the PS3 and PC. As icing on the cake, it turns out this new content is 100% free for both versions of the game (take that microtransactions). PC users can download the maps by clicking the link below, while PS3 users can find them on the Playstation Network. The three maps include Morbias, Facing Worlds, and Searchlight:

Morbias is the deathmatch arena that started it all, perfectly suited for anything from small intense duels to chaotic free-for-all matches. The Unreal Tournament classic, Facing Worlds was one of the most played maps in gaming history. This beloved sniper map makes its return alongside an intricate new capture the flag map, Searchlight, designed for both z-axis rooftop runs and strategic indoor gameplay.

Maybe this will convince more people to jump on this woefully underappreciated game.

WALL•E video game screenshots

What if mankind had to leave Earth, and somebody forgot to turn the last robot off?

WALL•E, a robot, spends every day doing what he was made for.

THQ sends word that they plan to release the Wall-E video game in conjunction with the theatrical debut of the upcoming Disney-Pixar animated film this Summer. The game is in development for the Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, DS, PC/Mac, as well as wireless devices. In the works at Heavy Iron Studios, the game is the second title that is the result of a deal between THQ and Pixar; the first was Ratatouille, which was released last year.

The game, as expected, allows players to reenact scenes from the film. It will include head-to-head multiplayer challenges, as well as new storylines and environments that will not be in the actual movie.

But soon, he will discover what he was meant for. From Academy Award-winning writer-director, Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo), Disney•Pixar’s WALL•E is the story of one robot's comic adventures as he chases his dream across the galaxy.

Oral Hygiene Game that makes Kids Brush Teeth Better

Watch the video here

With the help of a computerised toothbrush - when children brush using the system, the toothbrush's LEDs get mapped via webcam onto a representation of a mouth, which then shows kids which teeth have already been brushed and which teeth need more cleaning.

The kids using the system were "twice as effective at cleaning their teeth following the trial."

Sam & Max Coming to Wii!

As part of a continuing effort to extend episodic gaming to new audiences and platforms, Telltale is officially announcing that Sam & Max Season One will be coming to Nontendo Wii. This collection of the first six Sam & Max episodes will introduce a brand new audience to the popular and critically-acclaimed game series. Sam & Max for Nintendo Wii is expected to ship to retail stores worldwide this fall, thanks to a partnership between Telltale and JoWooD/DreamCatcher.

Sam & Max's journey to the Wii console has been fueled by fan excitement. Just before the episodic series' PC debut, fans launched an email campaign clamoring for a Wii version of the series. Continuous rumors and rampant speculation online led to developer and publisher enthusiasm for the title. With Telltale now focusing on console development in addition to PC, the company can finally bring Sam & Max to Wii in response to this overwhelming demand.

The Sam & Max episodes let players guide the Freelance Police through a series of bizarre—and often sidesplitting—mysteries. Sam & Max Season One has already experienced enormous success, both as an episodic series available for download through Telltale's website and other services, and at retail. Honors include Adventure Game of the Year from GameSpy and IGN, and inclusion on Games for Windows' list of Top 10 Games in 2007.

The Wii console is a perfect fit for the Sam & Max games. The series' story-driven gameplay and episodic structure has often been favorably compared to TV sitcoms. The new Wii version will present Sam & Max in a format that can be enjoyed from the comfort of the living room, either alone or with a group of friends—a setting perfectly suited for this kind of experience. The game's easy-to-use interface is ideal for a broad consumer audience

Sam & Max first hit the indie comic scene in 1987, courtesy of franchise creator Steve Purcell. In the twenty years since, they have appeared in an animated TV series, an Eisner-winning webcomic, and numerous video games. The success of the Sam & Max episodic series has fueled a renaissance for the franchise. Telltale recently released a special 20th Anniversary Edition of the complete Sam & Max comic collection, Surfin' the Highway, after nearly a decade out of print, and a DVD box set of the 1997 animated series has just been published by Shout Factory. Both are available in Telltale's online store www.telltalegames.com/store, along with other Sam & Max merchandise.

Sam & Max Season One for Wii will be published by Dreamcatcher/The Adventure Company in North America, and by JoWooD in Europe. In addition to English language, the game will be fully localized in French and German, and subtitled in Italian and Spanish. All versions are expected to ship during the fall 2008 season.

It’s time to get busy! The Reawakening, Swedish online game developer Lockpick Entertainment’s follow-up to last year’s acclaimed MMO debut title Dreamlords, is commencing the Closed Beta test in exclusive co-operation with FilePlanet.com, a part of the IGN Entertainment network.

Wannabe world rulers are preparing for a weekend inside...

Forget whatever weather you’re expecting for the weekend, the perfect excuse to stay in just arrived - and it’s free!
Long awaited, The Reawakening will start the beta testing today. Initially the beta test will be open exclusively to FilePlanet’s registered users, but will be public later next week.

So what is Dreamlords The Reawakening all about anyway?
The story continues where the original game left off: The world ended in a cosmic disaster (ouch) and the Cynos had to put the world to sleep to heal itself. Everything went black but after eons of silence, the Dreamlords slowly reawakens and begins to put the world back together.

Guess what, all is not what it seems though and it is not just the Dreamlords that has been awakened…

Amazing features in The Reawakening:
• Free to Play. No cost. Gratuit. Gratis. Yes, the rumors are true!
Customizable features. Upgrades, items and gear that will boost your Dreamlord.
• Simplified rules system, yet the same complex and long-lasting gameplay.
Unlimited oodles of fun.

Dreamlords – The Reawakening is a free-to-play MMORTS that will be available at www.dreamlords.com in a near future. Can you wait?

CyberSports Announce Football Superstars Goes Feature Complete

CyberSports, the games publisher focused on developing global world-class and cutting edge massively multi-player online sports games (MMOSG), today announced its premiere title, Football Superstars, has reached the ‘feature complete’ stage of its development and is now poised to enter the Beta testing phase leading up to the game’s imminent release this summer.

Reaching feature complete is an integral part of the game’s development where all the key areas and functionality of the game are now up and running, allowing the developers to begin Beta testing where all the fine tuning of the title is done in the run up to the launch of Football Superstars.
Malcolm Clark, CEO of CyberSports announced ‘I am absolutely delighted to have hit the feature complete milestone. As well as indicating the development is on track for the predicted summer release, now with all the elements of the game active, you can really get a sense of how Football Superstars is shaping up and what it is going to feel like to play. Players can now create their avatar, explore the in-game towns with all that they have to offer and immerse themselves in the football matches playing with up to 19 other players.
An MMOG game for the PC, Football Superstars will allow players to meet within a utopian soccer-styled virtual world and take part in 3, 5, 7 and 11-a-side football matches. Players will take control of a single footballer avatar and will interact on and off the pitch living the football superstar lifestyle whilst pursuing fame, glory and success, striving to join the best clubs, compete at the highest level and progress within the game through skill and sporting prowess. The player will exist in a persistent football-themed world and be able to join or form and manage their own teams and careers whilst engaging in various leagues, competitions, events and tournaments.
Rik Alexander, CEO of development partner Monumental Games, added ‘We are very pleased to have reached this stage of the development. The core of the game is now complete and it is everything we hoped it would be. We can now start the testing and we’re looking forward to the feedback we’ll be getting from our external testers as they immerse themselves in what will be the most realistic football gaming experience to date.’
In bringing the most realistic football gaming experience to life, Football Superstars has had to break a few of the old moulds and introduce new innovation previously unseen in football games. A new dynamic control system has been implemented that will allow the player to move around the pitch, easily know where his team mates are and intuitively pass, log and strike the ball while pulling off his skills. Also, several ranking systems have been tailor made for the game that will measure the success of the team during a match as well as the individual performance. Therefore, even if your team-mates have a bad day on the pitch, you’ll still be rewarded for your own good play.

The lifestyle area of the game will be a first for the genre too. Success on the pitch will bring the player the additional bonuses of experience and fame as well as monetary assets that can all be utilised in the lifestyle world. But while many extra skills and material assets can be gained in the towns within this area it is the non-player-characters (game controlled characters also know as NPCs) that will arguably bring the best rewards, tracking you down as your abilities improve and head hunting you for better and higher profile teams.
‘Football Superstars will be the best football game there is at launch’ added Malcolm Clark ‘and then over the coming months we’ll simply carry on making it better and better, keeping the game fresh and exciting no matter how long you’ve been playing.’
Football Superstars is scheduled for launch in the summer of 2008.
