Codemasters release a full package of new footage for F1 2019, the official video game for the 2019 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.
The package includes not only comparison graphics for the new after-race lighting system but also pictures of the final vehicles of the 2019 season as well as the classic artwork with the once competing top riders Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna.
Stuart Campbell, Art Director for F1 2019 at Codemasters, on the new material for nighttime track lighting: " Lighting at night was one of the priorities among F1 2019's graphical updates. The atmospheric system we used for this update was For F1 2018 have been introduced to optimise daylight, as a basis and have expanded this system for the night races.
With the help of this system we get on the tracks at night an atmospheric haze that gives the impression of more spatial depth. On these tracks there is a lot of dust in the air and at night it interacts very strongly with the track lighting. These atmospheric details are a great way to add even more realism to the entire scene.
In addition, we've added volumetric lighting to the track lighting, which is reflected in the fact that light falls in cones away from the light sources - another factor that makes the lighting even more realistic at night.
Finally, we also added nocturnal mirror effects. These were not included in all games in recent years and have made the nightly races partly blurry, sometimes even very flat. The now added reflections at night now provide a visibly significant improvement in the appearance of the surface materials of the stretch. This extra detail allows players to finally perceive all the details in the texture of surfaces that have remained hidden in recent years. In particular, the vehicle paints benefit from this new optimisation and look fantastic in the night race. They pick up countless details from all the side lighting and look so incredibly realistic that you could almost think"
