National Geographic Animal Jam, the premier educational online playground for kids, has received the Seal of Approval from the Safe Harbor Program for exceeding stringent child privacy laws set forth by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Safe Harbor Principals and Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
Animal Jam (www.animaljam.com) is an exciting online playground for kids who love animals and the outdoors. Players create and customize their own animal characters and dens, socialize, complete adventures, and feed their curiosity about the natural world through educational videos, fun facts, and games. Over 14 million kids play Animal Jam worldwide, with a new player creating their first animal every three seconds.
Animal Jam features a 24-hour chat filtering and moderation system, plus live in-game moderators ensuring peace of mind for parents while their children play online. Children are also taught best practices for online safety, how to handle bullies, and how to play fair online and offline.
“For a playground to succeed in the offline world, kids and parents need to feel it’s a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment,” notes Joi Podgorny, Animal Jam’s Director of Community Engagement. “Our community team applies the same principles to supervising Animal Jam’s online playground, using a combination of trained professionals and top-tier technology.”
In order to receive the Seal of Approval from the Safe Harbor Program, Animal Jam’s site, underwent stringent review to ensure its advertising practices, and privacy policy meet the standards of the Children’s Advertising Review Unit’s Kid’s Privacy Safe Harbor Program.
Animal Jam is free of any outside advertising. The game is free to play, with the option to subscribe to a premium membership. All educational content is accessible to players regardless of their subscription status, ensuring an enriching play experience for kids of all ages online.
