Only 1,000 of the players that requested to be part of the Steam for Linux beta are able to access the new service to the platform upon its release today. This number will soon expand within time and available to everyone who gets in is Team Fortress 2, as well as "approximately two dozen additional Steam titles." Let it be known that one of those additional titles is the top-down action shooter Steel Storm: Burning Retribution!
"Steam on Linux is awesome!" says Alexander Zubov, Founder and Creative Direction of Kot-in-Action Creative Artel. "I can only say positive things about its arrival. It should now be much easier to reach the extremely fragmented Linux gamers."
Players that have already bought Steel Storm: Burning Retribution on Steam directly or via the Humble Indie Bundle 3 will find that the game is automatically made playable on Steam for Linux when it is fully released. Those who haven't bought it yet can do so via the Steam Store page for just $4.99.
"The addition of Steam on Linux will also mean that those players will now be able to take advantage of those glorious sales! No other online store makes it so easy for developers to communicate and interact with their player base as Steam does. There's a reason why Steam is the leading online PC game store right now and expanding their potential customers further is only going to reinforce that fact."
Purchases of Steel Storm: Burning Retribution will go towards the continuing development of the sequel, Steel Storm 2. This follow up is an old-school FPS in the spirit of Doom and Quake. It's a spin-off in the original Steel Storm universe, with a rich story and flexible gameplay. Steel Storm 2 can also be pre-ordered for the low price of $5 for a limited time on the official website. That price will increase as development progresses with the final price being set as $20.
