J. K. Rowling wrote new Harry Potter content for the game, including back stories for the spells and the creation of new creatures for the Harry Potter world.
The game is an advanced textbook written by Miranda Goshawk over 200 years ago and kept in the restricted section of the Hogwarts library.
The Book of Spells, said Sony, "will assist students on their journey to becoming an accomplished witch or wizard".
Sony will follow the Book of Spells with more titles for the Wonderbook. The PS3 game will be released in November in Europe and December in North America.
