PlayStation 3 firmware update (V4.0) paves way to PlayStation Vita Launch

Sony's latest PlayStation firmware update (version 4.0) turns your PlayStation 3 into a content management device. With the PlayStation Vita handheld console due next February the update will allow the transfer of games, music, pictures and videos. The backup of your Vita games onto your PS3 hard drive will also be possible.Adding friend filters and a BluRay video upscaler and cinema conversion is also added.


Sony hinted at exciting announcement they will make over the coming months with speculation of about a PlayStation 4 or exclusive game titles. The have just lost Resistance and Ratchet & Clank developers Insomniac Games as a Sony exclusive.

For UK users the additional "British English" option will be welcomed.

PSVita launches in Asia this month with US and Europe release in February 2012.
