Newtoy today is pleased to announce that the free version of Words With Friends HD, the iPad version of their wildly popular turn-based crosswords game for the iPhone and iPod touch, is available now for download on the App Store. The game features a polished, single-screen game interface similar to the premium version. It is offered for free through support from in-game advertising.
"Releasing both free and premium version of our games is a great way to offer something for everyone," said Newtoy's Creative Director Paul Bettner. "New players can try the free version before committing to buying the premium version. They may even decide they don't mind ads and stick with it - but the choice is up to them."
Featuring more than two million daily active players, Words With Friends is the most popular word game on the iOS platform. To date, players have sent more than three billion moves through Newtoy's servers. In the game, players engage in "crossword combat" with friends or random opponents, making moves at their own pace in up to 20 simultaneous games. In-game chat gives way to friendly banter and push notifications let players know when it is their turn.
