HexaLex, the popular hexagonal crossword game for iPhone, today released a new update introducing "Shuffle Match." The new mode introduces random, online matchmaking so players can find new opponents at any time. In response to player feedback, HexaLex creator Nathan Gray wasted no time releasing this much-anticipated update for the game. With the addition of Shuffle Match, a new world of online competition and exciting word gaming has been opened in HexaLex.

Shuffle Match will pair you with a random online opponent to play a round of HexaLex. If no opponent is immediately available, the game will send you a push notification when a match is found. The update also introduces the ability to "nudge" opponents who take a long time to move and the ability to resign from games when you choose. As always, if you lose connection during an online game of HexaLex, you can continue making your next move and the game will update all player moves as soon as a connection is restored.

"I got to work on Shuffle Match almost immediately after the last update was finished," said Nathan Gray, the game's creator. "Scrabble and Words with Friends addicts were thrilled to have a new, original crossword game to play; many of them found that cross-training with HexaLex improved their performance in other crossword games! But they made it clear that they wanted to test their mettle against strangers as well as friends. I’m really happy to deliver that option today.”

With its innovative hexagonal tiles and game board, HexaLex breathes new life into the crossword genre. The hexagonal tiles let you play words in three directions instead of just two, while the highly intuitive instant feedback system, clear tutorials, and online multiplayer make for seamless game play. The HexaLex interface, board, and rules were crafted to be familiar to crossword gamers yet provide a fresh experience for casual gamers and crossword veterans alike.

HexaLex is available now on the iTunes App Store at the sale price of just $1.99 through July 29, 2010, after which it will sell for its regular price of $2.99. You can purchase it here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hexalex/id337380581?mt=8
