Peer-To-Peer Funded "Puff Puff" Game Pledges To Address Sixth Mega Extinction Through Embedded Generosity

puff puff iphone gameRevolutionary multi-touch game on Apple's iPhone. Funded by the peer-to-peer lending platform Prosper.com, 10% of sales of the casual game will be donated to help support ecosystem restoration and address the sixth mega extinction.

"Most people don’t know the sixth mega extinction is happening today, right now – scientists estimate we lose an animal species every 20 minutes. This rate of extinction has not been seen since the dinosaurs went extinct. If we continue at this rate, 50% of all living species will be gone by the end of this century,” says the team at 6th Mega. “Our multi-touch game is not just another iPhone game. You will get an awesome, beautiful looking game with multi-touch controls never seen before -- but also you will know that your purchase is doing something real to address the sixth mega extinction.”

Embedded Generosity, the idea of giving as part of a product, is an emerging trend being embraced by companies across the globe and industries including technology, fashion, food, and more. 6th Mega’s cause-based technology is driven by a social purpose: 10% of sales of 6th Mega’s iPhone game will be donated to The Nature Conservancy’s Adopt a Coral Reef program, which provides critical funds for the permanent protection and restoration of some of the last great places on Earth.

Gameplay of the game, named Puff Puff, is based on the physics of buoyancy and the hero, a spiny puffer fish. Says 6th Mega, “We think fans will be ecstatic once they get it in their hands - developers too: the game will be licensed as goodware, the code will be made freely available and developers will be encouraged to donate a percent of sales of their games to help address social and environmental problems. The hope is to inspire others in every action we take.”

Developers who want to remix the game once it has been released can connect with 6th Mega at their website, 6thmega.com.

In addition to a social mission and a ground-breaking multi-touch experience, Puff Puff features:

- Spectacular 3D visuals and graphics
- Highly addictive, fun but challenging gameplay
- Beautiful sound and music style
- Online global leaderboards
- Exciting use of native iPhone features

"We’re happy to hear about the success of 6th Mega using our peer-to-peer lending platform to launch their company,” says Tiffany Fox, VP of communication at Prosper.com. “The Prosper.com community totally embraced 6th Mega’s mission and their plan was funded in less than 24 hours! We’re looking forward to seeing what happens next.”

“We want to help evolve the dialog from saving the planet to save the humans, since that’s the most relevant issue at hand,” says the team at 6th Mega. “The Earth has already been through five previous mega extinctions. The question is: will we make it through the next?”

Puff Puff for the iPhone will be available for purchase in the spring of 2010 for $0.99.
