Yorkshire Games Festival 2021: Programme of Online Activities

The National Science and Media Museum has announced the programme of activities for this year's Yorkshire Games Festival: Bonus Level which takes place online in February. The festival will kick off on Friday 5 February with a series of exciting online Game Talks from industry experts, followed by networking sessions and a special virtual pub quiz. This year's festival activities will be taking place online to account for the latest COVID-19 restrictions.

The festival is returning for its fifth edition in 2021 and will kick off on Friday 5 February with a series of online Game Talks from high-profile industry guests. The impressive line-up of talks will be hosted by festival friends Jordan Erica Webber (podcast host and presenter of The Gadget Show) and Keith Stuart (author and journalist for The Guardian).

The Space in Between, for free on Steam (PC) and Itch (PC, Mac, Browser). Control the narrative of an emotional visual novel and dating simulator that features a poignant story about Asian American identity and mental health.

Indie studio Sondering Studios is headed by University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) student Emily Pitcher, a Chinese-American woman, and six of the seven other members working on The Space in Between are Asian-American as well. Pitcher recognized that the few Asian roles in mainstream American gaming are samurai warriors or martial artists, so she wanted to create a project with contemporary representation. She hopes to make young creatives feel heard and pave the way for other women developers of color to tell their stories through gaming.

Capcom Cup Cancelled Due to Rising Cases of COVID-19 to be replaced with online Season final

The Capcom Cup and Street Fighter League World Championship scheduled for February has been cancelled due to rising cases of COVID-19 worldwide say Capcom.

The company said that while it originally believed that it would have been able to run the event with limited risk, the steep rise in cases in some regions made it reevaluate its decision. There will be an online-only Season Final in lieu, which will focus on highlighting the best players from this season.
