Sony lose $40 per PS3 down from $250 - soon they could make PlayStation 3 pay...

image of new playstation 3 slim with controlleriSupply report shows a current PlayStation 3 Slim costs Sony $336.27 to make, that's down nearly $500 from the $805 Sony paid to produce a single PS3 at launched. Even at the lowered price of $299, Sony are losing $37 per PS3.

"In light of these factors, the PlayStation 3 probably is already at or near the tipping point for profitability," iSuppli's Andrew Rassweiler concluded.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves wins three prizes including 'game of the year' at VGA awards

Uncharted 2 - Among ThievesThe cinematic action adventure "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" nabbed three prizes including game of the year at the Spike TV Video Game Awards.

The PlayStation 3 exclusive was named top game for that console and honored for its graphics at the awards show Saturday night at the LA Live complex in downtown, which featured appearances from Stevie Wonder, Green Day and Jack Black. Snoop Dogg and The Bravery performed.

First look at the Final Fantasy XIII PlayStation 3 bundle

The console has a light pink render from the game on the front with the game logo appearing in pink above the Blu-ray drive. To complement the package a white controller is also included along with the game.
The game is a PlayStation exclusive available in Japan, but if it's successful may cross the water...

A PlayStation 4 without Blu-ray?



While the PS3 was instrumental in helping Blu-ray beat off HD DVD, there's a strong argument for dropping an optical drive from the PS4 altogether. Console owners are already downloading gigabytes-worth of game demos, video trailers, full-length movies and TV shows. With a giant hard disk in the PS4, games could simply be piped straight to the console on release day; long install/level load times would be eliminated.
