Disney racer Split/Second release date artwork and new screenshots released

Disney Interactive Studios announced today that Split/Second, the action racing game from Black Rock Studio, will be released in North America on Tuesday, May 18. The European release date is May 21. Set within the world of a fictional reality TV show, Split/Second players don't just try to race to the finish line - they trigger explosive events that alter the track to take out opponents or create short cuts.

Disney win Best Racing Game award at E3 for Split/Second

Split/Second, the action racing game from Disney Interactive Studios and Black Rock Studio, was selected as Best Racing Game in the Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2009. The award gives Black Rock Studio back-to-back victories in the category and marks the first time a development studio repeated in the racing category with different original properties.

Set within the world of a hyper-competitive reality television show in a made-for-TV city rigged for destruction, Split/Second is an intense action racing game in which competitors can trigger events that take out opponents or completely change the track as they compete for the ultimate prize – to become the season’s champion. Split/Second will be released in early 2010 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC. Split/Second is currently available for pre-order at select major retail chains.

The Game Critics Awards are chosen by a consortium of video games media representing 29 industry and consumer publications. The annual awards recognize the most outstanding products shown at the annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) which was held June 2-4, 2009.

Black Rock Studio is also the development studio behind the critically acclaimed 2008 action sports game, PURE. Racing to the finish line takes on added excitement when competitors trigger destruction on the track to take out their opponents. Disney Interactive Studios today announced Split/Second, an intense action racing game set within the world of a hyper-competitive reality television show. Competitors vie to be the first across the finish line in a made-for-TV city built for destruction, with the ultimate goal of becoming the season champion. Developed by Black Rock Studio, Split/Second is scheduled to be released in early 2010 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and Windows-based PC.



Competitors in Split/Second don’t just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track - they can also trigger explosive events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use strategy and pinpoint timing to derail opponents, tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes.

Is Split Second as good as Burnout - see for yourself...

Upcoming game Split/Second from Black Rock Studios, the folks behind the excellent off-road racer Pure, racing game to rival Burnout. The game is rumoured to be packed with destruction, environmental and vehicle, that will blow your mind. Look out Burnout Killer people said.

GameTrailers TV had an exclusive Split/Second trailer of this Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 game. It looks great, showing a collapsing bridge, the entire front end of cars being torn to shreds, an exploding gas station and the compulsory - fast cars.

How closely the game will play to Criterion's Burnout series remains to be seen. But whether or not Black Rock is gunning to snatch Criterion's "King of Arcade-style Racing" title, one thing is for certain - Split/Second definitely looks good.
