Abertay games courses ranked best in Europe for fifth consecutive year

Abertay University videogames degrees have been ranked best in Europe for the fifth consecutive year.

The prestigious annual Princeton Review once again rated Abertay as number one in Europe for undergraduate level games courses, with the University also breaking into the world top 10 at postgraduate level.

This latest accolade builds on the University’s reputation for international excellence in the videogames sector and follows the recent launch of the £12m InGAME partnership, which is led by Abertay and aims to undertake research and development with the games industry in Dundee, Scotland and across the UK.

Dean of Abertay’s School of Design and Informatics, Professor Gregor White said: “This accolade reflects the exceptional teaching and learning that takes place at Abertay and further cements our position among the world’s very best institutions for videogames education.

“To achieve this ranking year after year is only made possible through academic colleagues’ commitment to excellence, and the School’s ability to keep pace with the changing demands of the global games industry.”

Abertay recorded a double rankings climb in this year’s Princeton Review, now rated 16th in the world undergraduate table and 9th in the world postgraduate table.

One of the industry’s key international benchmarks for excellence, the guide analyses the quality of the faculty, technology, and student career prospects, with assessors taking into account more than 40 data points.

Robert Franek, Editor-in-Chief for The Princeton Review said: "We highly recommend Abertay University and each and every one of the institutions that made our lists for 2019.

“Their faculties are outstanding and their alumni include many of the video game industry’s most prominent artists, designers, developers, and entrepreneurs.”

Abertay offers a wide suite of games programmes with graduates going on to work across a variety of fields, ranging from the hugely successful commercial industry to projects focussing on applied games and emerging technologies.
