Originally developed for PC in the mid 1990s by puzzle and computer game designer Scott Kim, MetaSquares challenges players to position pieces on an eight-by-eight board to form squares, earning more points for bigger squares.

The game's features have been adapted for the iPhone, allowing players to move MetaSquares pieces by tapping, double-tapping, and swiping on the system's touch screen.

MetaTools intends to release the game in multiple languages, such as French, German, Japanese, and Spanish, in the near future. The company is also developing an online multiplayer option.

Says MetaTools founder John Wilczak: “We are thrilled to introduce MetaSquares to the millions of iPhone owners who will look to Apple’s mobile platform for entertainment as well as communication. MetaSquares signals our re-entry into this market and will allow our dedicated fans, who found our original products innovative and rewarding, as well as new players the opportunity to play anytime and anywhere, solo or with a friend.”

Consumers without iPhones can preview MetaSquares online for free at www.metatools.com/iphonemsq/ on Apple computers or via Firefox Web Browser if accessing from a Windows PC.
