Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment are pleased to announce that LEGO Batman: The Videogame has won a prestigious Children’s BAFTA Award for Best Videogame 2008.
Developer TT Games was snapped up by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment in 2007 and has since had a hugely successful 2008 seeing the release of LEGO Indiana Jones and LEGO Batman: The Videogame.
TT Games beat stiff competition from Nintendo’s Mario Kart Wii and Professor Layton and the Curious Village to scoop the top prize at the Children’s BAFTA Awards. Only four titles were short-listed for the award two of which were titles developed by TT Games - LEGO Batman: The Videogame and Guinness World Records: The Videogame.
“We’re absolutely delighted; it’s a very special accolade for the whole team” said TT Games head of production Jonathan Smith.
“To get this acknowledgment, here in our home country of the UK, to be acknowledged by the British Academy for the work that everyone’s done on LEGO Batman, was really thrilling.”
Spencer Crossley, head of videogames UK at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment said, “We extremely happy for everyone at TT Games. They have brought to life two great brands through fantastic game play and lots of humour which works perfectly for children.”
LEGO Batman: The Videogame is the latest game from the award-winning team behind the LEGO Star Wars series of games. With trademark LEGO fun and charm, the game takes you into the world of the ultimate crime-fighting hero. Meet the Characters: Job Classes Among The Heroes Of Dokapon
They each have their own unique strengths...who will you become? Like most RPGs worth their salt, Dokapon Kingdom allows players to choose from a variety of job classes in the development of their ideal adventurer. At the beginning, players choose from one of three job types - Warrior, Thief, or Magician - each with a unique bonus ability or trait. For example, the Warrior can randomly receive a boost to his or her attack at the start of a turn, although the Warrior insists that no illegal performance enhancement drugs are involved. The Thief can steal one random item or field magic from another player when he or she passes through them on the play field (and they really don’t care what they snatch, so long as their target has something to lose). Lastly, the Magician can cast two field magic spells prior to their turn, whereas other player classes can only cast one.
After a little bit of adventuring, players will be able to master their existing job and unlock new ones. Clerics can randomly heal a little HP at the start of a turn (“we don’t need no steenkin’ potions”), the Acrobat can bounce back from a fatal blow every now and then (gracefully, we should add), and the Ninja can use two items prior to the start of a turn (that’s what agility gets you). There’s a ton of variety, and a ton of different ways to play based on the kind of character you work towards. Each class also has a preferred type of weapon, yielding a significant performance increase when equipped for the right type of adventurer.
Here’s a listing of job classes you’ll find in Dokapon Kingdom (excluding a couple secret ones):
Warrior Strong in attack and defense abilities, the Warrior receives a random boost to his AT (attack) stat at the start of a round. Preferred weapon: Sword
Magician Physically frail but strong in the arcane arts, the Magician is able to cast two spells prior to his or her turn, whereas other classes can only cast one. Preferred weapons: Staff, Wand
Thief Trained to be fast and agile, the Thief will often be the fastest player in a fight, and uses his or her shiftiness to steal one random item or field magic from every player it passes by on the play field. Preferred weapon: Dagger Cleric A potent magician but serviceable in a fight, the Cleric randomly heals some HP (health points) at the start of turns, a very useful trait in tough areas. Preferred weapons: Spear, and to a lesser extent Axe or Hammer
Alchemist The Alchemist is a master of items. No doubt a result of numerous experiments, the Alchemist has mastered the ability to randomly duplicate an item or field magic every now and then. If he has rare items in his possession, this ability increases in value exponentially. Preferred weapons: Staff, Wand
Monk The Monk, master of meditation, can dramatically boost his abilities in times of need. This 50% boost to all stats makes the Monk an absolutely lethal adversary at his or her best. Preferred weapon: Bare Knuckles
Ninja The Ninja, deft and cunning, has the ability to use two items prior to a turn. Considering how powerfull some of the rarer items in the game are, this allows the Ninja to potentially wreak a lot of havoc before their turn even begins. Preferred weapon: Sword
Acrobat The Acrobat is the ultimate master of physical grace and beauty. This offers him or her the ability to feign death following a critical blow. Opponents will be stunned as the Acrobat gracefully jumps back to their feet, ready for another round of battle. Preferred weapon: Crossbow
Spellsword The Spellsword, being a master of magic and blade combat, has a counter for field magic that he or she is randomly able to employ. Nothing is more disheartening to an opponent than to see their potent magic thwarted. Preferred weapon: Sword
Dokapon Kingdom, the friendship-destroying game, is scheduled for release on October 14.
Ripten dug out of a Spanish PlayStation blog that little tidbit above — that Chun-Li, Guile, Zangief and Ryu are inbound for LittleBigPlanet.
Rumor has it they're gonna be available for download individually or as a package deal.
No date or pricing info yet, but SCEE has asked two other sites to take down the image (might we be the third?) so it sounds pretty legit to me. Full post here on Kotaku here... (unless Sony have asked for it to be removed!)
Just go on without me!" I shout. I'm pinned to the ground, a swarm of infected stamping on me. I fire blindly into the crowd, trying to help another survivor who's being tongued to death. A stray bullet severs the lengthy, constricting tongue and he runs for the safe house. Someone is in there already, waiting by the door. Norman, I think. Just like him to get away.
As I'm overwhelmed the safe house door is closed. BLAMMO, BANG. "DIE YOU ZOMBIE B*STARDS!" Level over.
Yes, I said "level". For a moment there I was in an '80s action movie, sacrificing my life so that others could live. Left 4 Dead does that to you. It's an entirely new way of playing games with friends.
You and up to three others battle through one of four movie-inspired apocalyptic backdrops, trying to reach safety, and that generates war stories like nothing else I've played. With four players working together against the overwhelming odds, plans are born out of desperation, some meagre supplies and a lot of luck.
Mobiusclimber of the Rising Stuff Forums has created this simple and straight forward guide to one of the quickest mods you can do: Make your SNES play Super Famicom games! Don’t worry, it will still play your Super Nintendo games perfectly and the modification will not be visible on the outside of your console.
Standard Disclaimer: Mod your Super Nintendo at your own risk. We are not responsible for damaged consoles.
1) Unplug your console. This step should be obvious. Here is is anyway.
2) Look inside the cartridge slot of your SNES and you might notice two small ridges of plastic, one on each side of the pin connectors. Since the pins in both Surer Nintendo and Super Famicom games are the same, those two small pieces of plastic are the only things holding you back from playing Japanese Super Famicom games on your SNES. Well maybe the language barrier as well, but we can discuss that another time. If you look at the back of an SNES cartridge, you’ll see two slots cut out of the plastic. This is what those ridges fit into. Looking on the back of an SFC cartridge, they don’t have the open spaces for the ridges. So if you just tried to pop the cartridge into your SNES, it wouldn’t fit.
3) Of course there’s a very easy solution to this problem: with a pair of pliers (or some other suitable implement of destruction), reach into the cartridge slot and break off those two pieces of plastic. I used a knife when I performed the surgery, but I wouldn’t recommend that. Pliers work best because you want to make sure you get the whole piece off and not leave any behind. Take a look at these pics to see what an SNES will look like before and after the surgery: 4) … There is no fourth step. Yeah, that’s it. And in case you were wondering, no, removing those two tabs doesn’t change your SNES Mini into a regular SNES. I just took pics of the two SNES consoles that I had. I didn’t mod the Mini and just happened to have a beat up regular SNES so I modded that. Once you have those two tabs broken off you can start playing all the Super Famicom games you like. Well… not quite. Later games (released around 1996) might have a lockout chip still. Known games that will not work are Super Mario RPG and Kirby Super Star. The solution? … Play the North American release!
