SingStar to get wireless microphones

Sony has announced they will finally be releasing wireless mics for their Singstar games . The mics will come with a new version of the game, SingStar Pop Edition, which will be released March 20th. If Pop is not your thing, then tough luck, as the mics will not be sold seprately.

The mics will be compatabile with both the both PS2 and PS3, and there is a chance they could work with Rock Band as well, although that is not confimred.

Mamma Mia - Sing Star gets ABBA video game exclusive on PS3

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced a collaboration with ABBA to bring the band’s best loved tracks to SingStar for both PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. Owners of either system will now be able to sing along with some of the most iconic pop tracks of all time including ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’, ‘Waterloo’ and ‘Dancing Queen’.

SingStar ABBA is being developed in full collaboration with ABBA and Universal Music Group in Sweden, which manages the rights to the ABBA brand. The terms of the agreement include a window of exclusivity for disc-based PlayStation titles until December 2009.

ABBA’s recordings have sold an estimated 370 million units worldwide. Their 1992 album, “Gold,” is one of the most popular albums of all time, with sales of 26 million copies.

The SingStar agreement comes as the music of ABBA enjoys a renewed surge of popularity worldwide, sparked by the huge success of the film, “Mamma Mia!” Global sales of the soundtrack album, released by Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, are now approaching 3 million.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with ABBA to bring their tracks to SingStar this Christmas,” said David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “The popularity of this iconic band continues year after year, and we know SingStar fans will be delighted to add this selection of classics tracks to their SingStar collection.”

Lucian Grainge, of Universal Music Group International, commented: “ABBA have joined that elite club of musicians and artists whose popularity only grows with time, as new generations enjoy some of the most memorable music ever made. SingStar ABBA will have the world singing along again.”

SingStar ABBA is the perfect soundtrack to any party, guaranteed to get pop lovers of all ages on their feet when it is released this winter in PAL territories and the US.

Singstar - Country video game out on PlayStation 2 in October

Sony have teamed up with leading country music label, Sony Nashville, to bring country fans the most authentic music experience possible. Sing along to their favorite artist music videos. SingStar Country will be the first title to feature artists on the cover, including popular Nashville country stars Brad Paisley, Gretchen Wilson and Alan Jackson. “It’s great to be one of the first SingStar Country artists,” comments Wilson. “This game lets me reach out to all country fans in a whole new way, not only giving them the chance to hear my music, but also to become a part of it.”

Additional Nashville stars featured on SingStar Country include Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Jessica Simpson, Miranda Lambert, Montgomery Gentry and others, including Kellie Pickler, who cheered, “I grew up wanting to be a country music singer and would sing other artists’ songs, and now people are going to be singing my song in SingStar Country? That’s cool!”

SCEA and Sony BMG Nashville also have joined up for “Sing Your Way to the CMA Awards”, a nationwide SingStar Country radio promotion beginning in September. SCEA and Sony BMG Nashville, in conjunction with radio stations in 12 major US markets including Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Chicago and San Francisco, will host SingStar Country tournaments at local hotspots for players to win a chance to attend the 42nd Annual CMA Awards on November 12. The highest scorer from each market will have their in-game performances taped and posted online for the public to vote on via www.hearsomethingcountry.com. The participant with the most votes by the end of October will win tickets to attend the CMA Awards alongside their favorite SingStar Country artists.

Available both as a stand-alone disc and packaged with two high-quality USB microphones SingStar Country tops off every SingStar fan’s collection, proving that the franchise truly has something for everyone. As in previous SingStar titles, SingStar Country provides an interactive social singing experience by incorporating technology that recognizes pitch, tone and rhythm to accurately score players as they perform to real songs featuring real music videos.
