2009: The Year of Pocket God over 1.7M Units Sold; Over 10M Pygmies Tortured

cartoon zombies walking through gravesWith over 1.7M units sold and a pile of awards and accolades in its back pocket, Pocket God is the most popular paid app on the iPhone. Today, Bolt Creative and iPhone users worldwide have declared 2009 as “The Year of Pocket God.”

A sadistic deity simulator with a warped sense of humor and nearly 30 free updates under its belt, Pocket God puts players in the role of an omnipotent being who rules over a small island and its Pygmy inhabitants. Deities completely control the lives – and often, the demise – of their Pygmy charges by using an ever-growing variety of tools, monsters, and gameplay mechanics.

Developed in significantly less time than it took to build Rome - only a week! - Pocket God quickly stormed the charts holding the top spot for an entire month. With a peak of 18,000 downloads a day, the loyal community continued to grow and embrace the unique app as Bolt consistently provided free new episodes with fresh content. Fans created over 3,500 videos for YouTube, posters, plush dolls, paintings and much more.

The awards speak for themselves:
- Named by Apple as one of the “Best Selling Apps of 2009”
- WIRED readers named it one of the “Best Apps of 2009”
- Appadvice named it “Most Creative Game”
- iLounge named it one of the “Best Apps of the Year”
- G4TV’s X-Play named it one of the “Top 5 iPhone Games”
- And many more!

As always, Bolt is hard at work on the next update (number 30!!) tentatively titled Great Job, Ice Hole! which will likely be released in early 2010.

Bolt Creative is also currently hosting a fan survey requesting feedback on the app from their community. To participate, please visit: http://pocketgod.blogspot.com/2009/12/tell-us-about-you.html.
