JAY-Z and Eminem perform at DJ Hero video game event
JAY-Z and Eminem – two of the music industry’s most influential and successful artists – performed together on Monday night at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles to celebrate their collaboration with DJ Hero, the highly-anticipated new game which will bring DJ culture and new music genres including hip-hop, electronic, R&B and soul music to the successful Guitar Hero platform.
Last week Activision announced that JAY-Z and Eminem will contribute some of their popular songs to DJ Hero and will collaborate on a special branded edition of the game that will include an advanced version of the game’s turntable controller, a metal traveling case that transforms into a performance-ready DJ stand and two exclusive music CD compilations featuring greatest hits and new mixes from each artist. JAY-Z and Eminem will both provide downloadable content later this year that will give DJ Hero fans fresh mixes of their material.
“JAY-Z and Eminem are innovators and they share a vision for expanding their genre by letting fans embrace technology and music in new and exciting ways to get the most out of the experience,” said Dan Rosensweig, president and CEO of Guitar Hero. “JAY-Z and Eminem embody an entire generation and will continue to influence popular culture. Now their fans can experience what it’s like to play the music, mix the music and compete with themselves and others in a game that expands with the user.”
“A DJ has the ability to use music to control people's emotions and is responsible for the entire vibe of a room, a club or a party,” said JAY-Z. “DJ Hero is the first video game that allows everyone to enjoy the unique experience
of creating that environment.”
“I came up doing freestyle battles on local stages with other MCs and DJs,” said Eminem. “DJ’ing is an essential part of hip-hop and DJ Hero will give people all over the chance to experience the music from the other side of the turntables.”
DJ Hero immerses fans into DJ culture and a sea of music as they take turns with their friends, scratching songs, playing along to the hottest tracks and ruling the party. The game’s innovative turntable controller was created exclusively for the game and features familiar DJ tools including a fully-rotating turntable, sample buttons, effects dial and cross fader. Players master various DJ techniques as they play along to visual cues for scratching, blending, cross fading and sampling, and can also add their own creative spark by choosing to add a variety of effects, samples and scratches. Social expression is heightened with euphoric multiplayer gameplay where two DJs can battle competitively or have a player join in to emcee over any track in the game using any USB compatible microphone. Additionally, gamers can rock together as DJ Hero features DJ-guitar exclusive mixes played with a turntable controller and Guitar Hero® guitar controller.
DJ Hero is part of a highly anticipated fall video game lineup that includes Guitar Hero® 5 and Band Hero™, which will redefine how consumers interact with music. Through unique partnerships with some of the hottest rock, hip-hop and top 40s artists, these games are bringing more fun ways to explore, share and participate in music for millions of people around the world.
DJ Hero is being developed by FreeStyleGames for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 and PlayStation 2 computer entertainment systems and the Wii system from Nintendo. The game is not yet rated by PEGI or the BBFC.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time Re-Shelled video game
Ubisoft announce that it will be releasing a downloadable game inspired by one of the most acclaimed arcade games of all time – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled. A side-scrolling, four-player action brawler based on the 1987 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time Re-Shelled will kick off the Summer of Arcade, and release on July 22 worldwide exclusively on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and later this year on the PlayStation Network.
“Given that this is the 25th anniversary ‘shell-ebration’ of the creation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property we’re delighted to partner with Ubisoft to release an updated version of the hugely popular Turtles in Time arcade game,” said Gary Richardson, CEO of Mirage Studios. “The Turtles have fans of all ages, and we’re excited to bring the game back to the long-time fans, as well as introduce Turtles in Time to a new generation of gamers.”
"We're excited to rekindle the enthusiasm for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time arcade classic with Ubisoft’s enhanced downloadable version," said Careen Yapp, vice president of licensing and business development at Konami. "The TMNT brand is world renowned and we will continue our commitment to support the endeavor in bringing the next downloadable addition to the franchise to Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network players around the globe.”
“It has been a ton of fun working with Mirage on the TMNT brand, beginning back in 2007 in conjunction with the release of the CGI Turtles film,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. “We’re definitely ‘shell-ebrating’ the 25th anniversary in style, starting with the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled and continuing with the release of an entirely new Turtles’ game – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™: Smash-Up – later this year.”
Originally released as an arcade game by Konami in 1991, Turtles in Time became Konami’s bestselling arcade title, hailed for its adherence to the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles material. The upcoming re-release will feature updated graphics, but it will stay true to the original feel of the arcade game.
TMNT fans will be able to play an early version of the game by visiting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Party Bus during its national tour. The Party Bus has begun a cross-country 10-city tour that will include playable kiosks of the game, TMNT memorabilia and interactivity for all to enjoy.

Nyko at E3 Type Pad Pro, SpeakerCom, Charger Grip, and Zoom Case Unveiled at Show
“Nyko has been a participant of E3 for 10 straight years and we’re excited to be using the show as the launching pad for our 2009 products,” said Chris Arbogast, Director of Marketing at Nyko Technologies. “We have been hard at work developing new patent pending technologies like Trans-Port that we feel add a unique gameplay experience that is not available elsewhere.”
Nyko is exhibiting in the West Hall, booth No4512.
Type Pad Pro for Wii
The ergonomic wireless keypad for Wii features Nyko’s Trans-Port Technology allowing players to control, type, and browse with ease. Nyko’s Type Pad Pro cradles either the Nyko Wand or Wii Remote, allowing for pointer functionality while utilizing the full QWERTY Keyboard to chat, type, search and more. The Type Pad Pro communicates with the Wii wirelessly up to 25 feet away using a USB dongle and is fully compatible with applications that utilize keyboard functionality like the Opera® Browser and Wii friend messaging. When used with the Wand Wireless Controller, Trans-Port Technology allows for both the A and B buttons to be replicated directly on the Type Pad Pro for smoother and easier scrolling, zooming and clicking while browsing your favorite web sites.
SpeakerCom 360
Xbox 360 gamers can now customize how they communicate over Xbox Live® with SpeakerCom 360, which provides the choice to talk and listen over a loud speaker or through a traditional headset, giving players two communication options in one device. In Headset mode, the SpeakerCom provides a comfortable, stereo, in-ear solution. When switched over to the Loud Speaker mode the self-muting microphone and volume-controlled speaker are activated so everyone in the room can hear and participate via one headset. The patent pending design allows for easy switching between both headset and loud speaker mode.
Zoom Case for Nintendo DSi
Nyko’s Zoom Case, a protective case with an 8x zoom lens for the DSi, significantly magnifies the handheld’s external camera. The Zoom Case wraps around the DSi, protecting it from bumps and scratches while the removable 8x optical zoom lens allows for closer, clearer shots from a greater distance. The zoom lens easily locks onto the Zoom Case, and when not in use can be safely stored in its own hard case for easy travel. The case’s textured grip provides a more comfortable hold for extended gameplay sessions.

James Cameron’s Avatar - The Game made a surprise E3 appearance during Ubisoft’s Press Conference
New product details for James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. Making a surprise appearance during Ubisoft's Press Conference earlier in the day, James Cameron introduced the first details for Avatar: The Game along with Yannis Mallat, CEO of Ubisoft Montreal.
The game will take you deep into the heart of Pandora, an alien planet that is beyond imagination. Gamers will encounter the Na'vi, Pandora's indigenous people and discover creatures and other wildlife the likes of which have never been seen in the world of video games before. When conflict erupts between the RDA Corporation, a space-faring consortium
in search of valuable resources, and the Na'vi, players will find themselves thrust into a fight for the heart of a planet and the fate of a civilization.
"Technically, we have a lot in common with Ubisoft and the game world," said Cameron during the press conference. "We utilized highly sophisticated technologies in creating Avatar so, when it came to choosing a game company, I wanted a partner that would not only be inspired creatively by the world of Avatar but would have the capacity to keep up with the challenging demands of its technological needs.
Ubisoft was that company."
James Cameron's Avatar: The Game will ship this December 2009 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the Wii home video game system from Nintendo, the Nintendo DS system, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system and the PC.
James Cameron's Avatar: The Game will be shown to select media in stunning stereoscopic 3D at Ubisoft's booth (South Hall, Booth No1022) during E3 June 2-4, 2009. Thanks to Panasonic, Ubisoft will be showing James Cameron's Avatar: The Game using Panasonic's 3D Full HD Plasma Home Theater System, enabling the viewing of true-to-life 3D Full 1080p HD images by using a specially configured Panasonic 103-inch Plasma HDTV, capable of distributing full High Definition (1920 x 1080
pixels) images separately to the left eye and right eye of the viewer.
With it, you are no longer just playing a game; you are experiencing all Pandora has to offer.
