Diablo III announced by Blizzard - Diablo 3 RPG

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today revealed Diablo III, the newest entry in its critically acclaimed action role-playing-game franchise. The announcement was made during the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment Worldwide Invitational at the Porte de Versailles Convention Centre in Paris, France. A cinematic trailer and an extended gameplay demonstration with commentary from the development team introduced the game to the thousands of players in attendance.
“We’ve wanted to expand on the epic story and gameplay elements of the Diablo universe for some time now,” stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We know that players have also been long awaiting a return to the series, so we’re very excited to be sharing this announcement with Blizzard gamers here in Paris and around the world today.”

Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. The first two characters classes -- the barbarian and the witch doctor -- were shown as part of the announcement at the event today in Paris.

Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game’s physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game’s random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net.

Blizzard Entertainment is developing Diablo III for simultaneous release on the Windows and Macintosh PC platforms. Further information about the game, including details on the other character classes, major new features for the single-player and multiplayer components, system requirements, pricing, and availability, will be announced as development progresses. About the Diablo Series

Launched at the end of 1996, the original Diablo helped popularize the action role-playing-game genre, earning widespread critical and commercial success. The game’s sequel, Diablo II, shipped in 2000 to similar acclaim, winning several Game of the Year awards and at the time becoming the fastest-selling computer game ever. Diablo II’s award-winning expansion set, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, debuted in 2001, becoming Blizzard Entertainment’s sixth-consecutive No1-selling game. To date, the franchise has sold more than 18.5 million copies worldwide.* Diablo’s gothic horror theme has also inspired a number of licensed products, including novels and action figures.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl - Hits the shelve

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl's multiplayer games, characters from all Nintendo universes meet up in Nintendo locales to duke it out. In Super Smash Bros.

Brawl's solo mode called "The Subspace Emissary," the world of Smash Bros. is invaded by an entity called the Ancient Minister and his army of creatures, called "The Primid." Normally, characters come alive in the world of Smash Bros. to do battle, then turn back into trophies when defeated. However, in Super Smash Bros.

Brawl the Ancient Minister starts turning characters into trophies to harness their power, then detonates bombs that suck pieces of the world back into his realm of Subspace. Eventually, all the characters in Super Smash Bros.

Brawl must work together to defeat the invading creatures from Subspace - this is accomplished by playing through side-scrolling levels.

Lineage II: The Chaotic Throne – Hellbound. Castle Siege & Fortress Q&A

High profile clan leaders talk about their personal experiences with castle sieges and the recently introduced battle fortress system

NCsoft Europe presents an exclusive insight into the thoughts of some of the most highly profiled clan members within Lineage II. Hardcore PvP is one of the big draws to Lineage II, and the bulk of the intense PvP action takes place with the game’s castle sieges and the recently introduced fortress battle system. We asked several prominent clan leaders about their PvP experiences in Lineage II and what they’d like to see in the future.

What’s the most fun you’ve ever had in a Castle siege?

FeRsT ~ Kain ~: That would have to be when we took Rune on Kain from Teamjesus clan and Darkside/Ur/Bregan alliances. They had been zerging the server, outnumbering us to PvP, and we proved to them that with we could compete with equal numbers (about ten clans combined for the siege). We took them down from their status of server kings to show them that all they can do is zerg, and that was by far the best thing, especially seeing it was Fraps’d by Repsol, who is by far the best movie maker in Lineage II playing currently.

Sovrath from Hindemith: Our alliance had made some enemies on the server, and, as the history of our server has shown, when the majority of the populace wants a Castle ruler out, they unite and get them out. We rushed to Aden Castle and discovered that our alliance members and other friends numbered around twenty-one clans. However, the force united against us was around twenty-nine clans.

We all buffed up, making sure that we were in place, only to see a vast sea of players arrayed against us, waiting to rush when the siege time started. It was at that point the weight of the situation impressed itself upon me: unlike other games where you just go through the world doing the quests, collecting things, etc, Lineage II offered a far much more intense system of game play. This game is the players and what you do has consequences.

In any case, the siege took the whole two hours, and never relented for a minute. We fought at every gate, wall breach and entrance. We held them back most of the time, however, in the end their forces were great and their determination strong. Five minutes before the siege was scheduled to end they took our throne room. Even though we lost the siege, it was a great time and we definitely had shown that our forces could put up a formidable defense.

How about Fortress battles?

MysticLance from Gustin: Probably the one I did with four other people last week. I soloed two of the bosses with my Unicorn, which just really shows how easy a fortress can be to take if you're of the appropriate level!

Sovrath: One time I recall a small group from a rather distasteful alliance had signed up rather late in order to see if they could get in. Luckily, we had some clan members and with the help from one or two others we were able to repel them successfully. They never made it to the gates to be honest. Fortress Battles have been a great Clan event though they have all been against NPC’s.

Which do you find more useful, Castle or Fortress ownership, and why?

MysticLance: I find that Fortress ownership is more useful; generally, Fortresses give more diverse porting locations and, while in possession of a Fortress, you can still sign up to siege other fortresses or castles. Maintaining ownership of a castle renders you unable to help defend other castles without suffering significant penalties.

Jkoster from Lionna: I would have to say that the Fortresses add more excitement to the siege field, as it's not something that's exclusive to the level 75+ crowd. With the right numbers and classes, even clans comprised of mostly B-graders can manage a Fortress. In addition, the toys make it a lot more fun, and the setting lends itself well to the role-playing aspect of the game.

If you'd like to see improvements made to castle sieges and fortress battles, what would you suggest?

Jkoster: Extend the duration of possession on Fortresses. Seventy-two hours (assuming no other clan attempts to siege) is just too short. Many clans have members that only manage to log in once during that time, and they do not get any true benefit from the Fortress. As for Castle sieges, I would like to see them become more dynamic, similar to some of the dynamics of the fortress system (sub-boss NPCs, the Control Rooms, etc).

MysticLance: A huge improvement to Castle sieges and Fortress battles would be to remove the penalty of dying if unsigned (a full experience loss). Maintaining the disuse of Siege Charms on those siege fields makes sense in order to prevent a strong group of players from fighting on five siege fields at once with no consequence, but the risk of full experience death when protecting an allied clan's Castle is too harsh of a penalty. I'd also really like to see more useful Siege Summons, considering that a Castle Gate can be taken down faster by a party of Archers than by a Siege Golem!

What are your interactions like with other clans? Who usually dominates at Castle sieges and Fortress battles on your server?

Sovrath: My current clan tends to be more neutral though we have a decent reputation on the server. The problem is that server politics can play havoc on smaller clans so at times they tend to stay out of things if they can. There usually is an alliance, Redemption, which seems to dominate though they are very driven and usually have most of the Heroes on the server—that of course helps a lot.

FeRsT ~ Kain ~: I have been leading top clans on Kain since Chronicle 3. I have always interacted with other clans but generally people didn’t like me on the server. I prefer to out-skill and outclass people, rather than outnumber, and I’ve always been outnumbered, though it makes the game fun. I hardly ever will interact with more than two to three clans to achieve the goal of taking a Castle or crushing a large enemy force unless it is necessary to restore server balance like in the example of the taking of Rune Castle.

Currently UR&B Alliance, who is a Russian alliance made up of Bregan and UR clans, and the alliance of Darkside (made up of DV, TJ and ND) are the main force on Kain. They bring over eighty people to each siege, of which a majority of players comes with epic jewelry. Recently a large majority of the good players left Kain to Teon, Franz or Bartz, and this has left a large PvP gap on the server. There are a few clans putting up fights together but they are no match to this cluster of alliances, especially when they are out-geared, out-leveled and outnumbered.

Do you do anything special to prepare for a big Castle siege or other large-scale PvP battle? (training, eating, etc.)

FeRsT ~ Kain ~:
I eat two large pizzas, five garlic breads to scare the vampires away, and two large bottles of Dr Pepper! Well, maybe not all of that. In Australia, the sieges normally start between 9AM and 1PM (or at the moment 7AM and 11AM) so I am lucky to wake up and prepare for them. I feel the best training is general PvP during the week, and nothing makes up for experience like a good leader.

Jkoster: I make sure my schedule is clear and that my clan and alliance members are aware of the siege time and location. I prepare in-game as much as I can, and then just show up. Occasionally, we formulate some sort of an actual plan of attack that actually works, but mostly we begin our battle planning on the siege field.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky - Fact Sheet

GSC Game World and Deep Silver release new details about the prequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

Hermosa Beach- Jun 26, 2008 S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl was one of the best-selling first-person shooters of 2007. In late August 2008, the Ukrainian developers from GSC Game World and the publisher Deep Silver will invite gamers to join them on a new foray into the nuclear zone: S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky is set one year before the events of part 1 - at a time when the Zone is changed forever by a huge anomalous eruption of energy.

War of factions
In S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky, the player assumes the role of Scar, a mercenary s.t.a.l.k.e.r. In a unique mixture of first-person shooter and complex role- playing game, Scar fights for survival within the Zone and its hostile sectors. The new Zone territories are explored by s.t.a.l.k.e.r.s scattered in groups - and these individual factions soon engage in relentless battle. As a mercenary, Scar quickly finds himself in the middle of a war of factions over territory, artifacts, and power. It is up to the player to find out on whose side Scar has the greatest chance of prevailing.

Clever adversaries, luscious graphics
Just like its predecessor, Clear Sky perfectly captures the sinister atmosphere within the death Zone. DirectX 10 support enables spectacular graphics, including dynamic transitions between day and night with absolutely realistic light effects, as well as very detailed landscapes and lifelike animations. At the same time, the developers saw to it that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky also works with DirectX 8 and DirectX 9.

Special attention was given to realistic, independent thinking and actions of the NPCs. The artificial intelligence from the predecessor game was strongly improved, so that foes and allies now make their own situation-based decisions that impact the further course of the game. For instance, the outcome of battles is not predetermined. Only in the last few levels is the player guided towards a given end of the story, which leads to the events described in Shadow of Chernobyl.

Key features
  • Unique mix of action-laden first-person shooter and complex role-playing game

  • Gigantic scope: many new levels are available, plus some completely overhauled levels from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl and many side quests with motivating rewards

  • Realistic simulation of the extensive S.T.A.L.K.E.R. world: enemy factions fight each other, mutants hunt of their own accord.

  • Intermediate movie-quality cut scenes complement the thrilling back-story leading up to the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl

  • Numerous new in game features, such as fast travel, or extensive modification and repairing armor and weapons

  • Greatly improved artificial intelligence

  • Complete DirectX 10 support for state-of- the-art graphic effects (God rays, soft particles, SSAO, dynamic volumetric smoke, dynamically wetting surface (rain effect) etc.)

  • Dynamic transitions between day and night with realistic weather effects

  • Detailed graphics, including an all-new animation engine

  • Hugely expanded multiplayer part with many varied game modes and up to 32 players online or over LAN.

All-New Guitar Hero World Tour - American Idols Live Tour

Guitar Hero, the No1 best selling video game franchise of 2007, will go coast-to-coast with the American Idols Live! Tour 2008, kicking off in Glendale, Ariz. on July 1. The sponsorship fuses the two pop culture phenomenons together for a second time, building on the success of the dual-branded "Risky Business" TV advertisements that featured season seven winner David Cook and finalist David Archuleta last month. In the upcoming 53-city tour, concert-goers will be among the first to experience three of the newest Guitar Hero games, the highlight of which will be a sneak-peak video demonstration of Guitar Hero World Tour, which officially hits shelves this fall.

The 10 "Idol" tour finalists will be part of a halftime Guitar Hero World Tour rockumentary, created by advertising agency DDB, that blends the camaraderie of hanging out in the studio with the franchise's latest transformation of music gaming - a slick newly redesigned guitar, a genuine electronic drum kit and a microphone. In each city, expert shredders will also face-off on center stage, and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero: On Tour will be available for everyone to play in a booth throughout the tour.
"The American Idols Live! Tour is for families to immerse themselves in the Idol experience first-hand, and what better way to bring a personalized, super star feeling to life than by playing Guitar Hero," said Iain Pirie, head of 19 Entertainment U.S. "Integrating Guitar Hero into the tour gets fans actively involved and provides an added dose of entertainment that we know they'll love."
"The Guitar Hero franchise is continually searching for new and organic ways to connect with music fans," said Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc. "Linking the concert-going experience with a chance for people to feel like they are taking center stage with Guitar Hero delivers on just that. By going from town to town alongside 'American Idol,' we are building a strong community and providing new ways for families and friends to spend time together by sharing the magic of music."

This week, rockers of all ages can enjoy two new video games from the Guitar Hero franchise, including:
