E3 2009 gamezplay logoInvitation Only Game Demos To Be Shown at E3 in Stunning 3D On a Panasonic 103" 3D Full HD Plasma Home Theater

New product details for James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. Making a surprise appearance during Ubisoft's Press Conference earlier in the day, James Cameron introduced the first details for Avatar: The Game along with Yannis Mallat, CEO of Ubisoft Montreal.

The game will take you deep into the heart of Pandora, an alien planet that is beyond imagination. Gamers will encounter the Na'vi, Pandora's indigenous people and discover creatures and other wildlife the likes of which have never been seen in the world of video games before. When conflict erupts between the RDA Corporation, a space-faring consortium
in search of valuable resources, and the Na'vi, players will find themselves thrust into a fight for the heart of a planet and the fate of a civilization.

"Technically, we have a lot in common with Ubisoft and the game world," said Cameron during the press conference. "We utilized highly sophisticated technologies in creating Avatar so, when it came to choosing a game company, I wanted a partner that would not only be inspired creatively by the world of Avatar but would have the capacity to keep up with the challenging demands of its technological needs.
Ubisoft was that company."

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game will ship this December 2009 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, the Wii home video game system from Nintendo, the Nintendo DS system, the PSP (PlayStation Portable) system and the PC.

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game will be shown to select media in stunning stereoscopic 3D at Ubisoft's booth (South Hall, Booth No1022) during E3 June 2-4, 2009. Thanks to Panasonic, Ubisoft will be showing James Cameron's Avatar: The Game using Panasonic's 3D Full HD Plasma Home Theater System, enabling the viewing of true-to-life 3D Full 1080p HD images by using a specially configured Panasonic 103-inch Plasma HDTV, capable of distributing full High Definition (1920 x 1080
pixels) images separately to the left eye and right eye of the viewer.
With it, you are no longer just playing a game; you are experiencing all Pandora has to offer.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. original music by Tom Salta

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X.Salta Records with A-list Musicians in New York for the New Title in the Prestigious Tom Clancy's Video Game Franchise

Composer and music producer Tom Salta, whose previous credits include the MTV VMA-nominated original score for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (GRAW) and the acclaimed sequel Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, has written and recorded the exhilarating original music score for Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X, the first air-combat game set in the world-renowned Tom Clancy's video game universe. Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X will be available March 3, 2009 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system. The Windows-based PC version of the game will be released the following week.

Developed by Ubisoft's Bucharest studio, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X delivers an intense and authentic aerial combat experience by fully leveraging the benefits of the current-generation platforms. To emphasize the game's cutting-edge technology, devastating firepower, and intense dogfights, Salta composed an adrenalized and emotionally-charged live orchestral / electronic hybrid score recorded at Legacy Studios in New York with A-list musicians from the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
"In Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X we had to explore five emotional dimensions: the patriot, the life of a mercenary, betrayal, hopelessness and open war on U.S. soil," said Emil Gheorghe, producer of H.A.W.X. "Tom Salta managed not only to tie all these elements together in an astoundingly rich and memorable score but he also crafted an acoustical identity for our game to stand up in the midst of the Tom Clancy's titles. Using orchestral arrangements, high-tech sounds and a mix of traditional instruments, he built an incredibly diverse soundtrack ranging from flavorful traditional themes to military tracks."
To preview samples of Salta's music for the game, visit the official website at http://hawxgame.com/.

Tom Salta's other video game credits include Ubisoft's exclusive first-person action title for the Wii home video game system from Nintendo, Red Steel, drawing from traditional and contemporary Japan for the game's original soundtrack which received IGN's Wii Award for Best Original Score. Recording under the artist name Atlas Plug, he is currently writing the follow-up to his highly acclaimed debut solo album 2 Days or Die. For more information on Tom Salta visit www.tomsalta.com.

About Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X
Developed by Ubisoft's Bucharest studio, Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X delivers an intense and authentic aerial combat experience by fully leveraging the benefits of the next-generation platforms. The story begins in the year 2014. As the era of the nation-state draws quickly to a close, the rules of warfare evolve even more rapidly. More and more nations become increasingly dependent on private military companies (PMCs), elite mercenaries with a lax view of the law. The Reykjavik Accords further legitimize their existence by authorizing their right to serve in every aspect of military operations. While the benefits of such PMCs are apparent, growing concerns surrounding giving them too much power begin to mount.

HAWX video game delayed to 2009 Tom Clancy will not be pleased!

HAWX tom clancy
Originally planned for release before the end of 2008, then pushed into the first quarter of 2009, it now turns out that Tom Clancy's HAWX - Ubisoft's forthcoming flight combat game - won't see release until sometime after April of next year, reports Eurogamer.
This latest slip was revealed on Ubisoft's most recent release schedule, with no explanation for the delay given. It's curious to see HAWX -- first announced back in April of this year -- continue to slip, as it seemed to be shaping up nicely so far.
As Eurogamer notes, one possible culprit could be that the game's multiplayer needed more tweaking, as HAWX will have ambitious features like four-on-four dogfights as well as jump-in-jump-out co-op throughout the entire campaign. Now if only Ubisoft would change the silly title before release. In case you already forgot, it stands for "High Altitude Warfare eXperimental squadron," which is one of those delightfully strained creations that exists for the sole purpose of having the flight-themed acronym "HAWX."

Fonix Speech VoiceIn Software Powers Tom Clancy's EndWar Video Game

tomclancy screen
Fonix Speech, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fonix, and Ubisoft announced today that the highly anticipated Tom Clancy’s EndWar, now available at leading video game retailers, features Fonix VoiceIn technology for its voice command interface. EndWar, initially available in US and UK English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Russian and Polish is available for both the Microsoft Xbox and the Sony PlayStation 3 computer entertainment systems. A PC version in the same languages will launch in Q1 2009.

“Ubisoft chose Fonix speech software for its convenient user interface, low memory and processing power requirements. We needed to ensure that everything done in the game could be done by voice commands and Fonix VoiceIn offered us the technology to accomplish that,” commented Vincent Greco, worldwide technical coordinator at Ubisoft. “Fonix provided us with a unique set of tools for game development across multiple platforms.”

Early reviews of the game’s control scheme have generated enthusiasm in the press with such comments as Official Playstation Magazine: “What voice control does is make gameplay almost as fast as your ability to conjure an order in your mind. And the tech really is up to the job of recognising multiple orders in rapid succession. The resulting experience is fast, intuitive, exciting and fun – basically everything RTS games don’t tend to be.”

“Fonix VoiceIn provides dramatic and accurate voice commands to increase the user experience in video games,” says Steve Jones, Fonix senior sales executive. “Our software allows publishers to enhance their development teams with multi-platform voice command technology, without incurring additional, expensive development costs. EndWar with Fonix VoiceIn is expected to take the video gaming industry into a new realm of user excitement.”

LOVEFiLM TOM CLANCY'S RAINBOW SIX VEGAS 2 - UBISOFT

LOVEFiLM Vegas Bound For Tom Clancy Tie-Up

TOM CLANCY'S RAINBOW SIX VEGAS 2 MARKS CONTINUED LINK WITH UBISOFT

LOVEFiLM.com, the UK’s largest digital entertainment portal has once again teamed up with games producer Ubisoft to mark the launch of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 across PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC formats.

Following the hugely successful partnership late last year for the release of Assassin’s Creed, LOVEFiLM has launched an exclusive multi layered marketing campaign for the title.

The tailored campaign sees Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 receive placement in the weekly e-newsletter, reaching LOVEFiLM’s customer base of over 460,000 subscribers plus unique promotion across the distribution of 200,000 exclusively branded product envelopes delivered directly into customer’s homes. This direct marketing is supported with targeted online advertising across the LOVEFiLM site.

LOVEFiLM has further extended its online support of Ubisoft to run a Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 microsite at www.lovefilm.com/micro/vegas2. Through the targeted microsite users can buy and/or rent the game and enter an exclusive competition to win a trip for two to Las Vegas. Editorial content includes the developers’ video diaries, the game trailer, plus a list of favourite films suited to the game’s main character Commander Bishop. The microsite also showcases upcoming Ubisoft releases, with previews of titles including Haze, Tom Clancy’s EndWar™ and Far Cry 2 and drives users to the official Rainbow Six Vegas 2 website through several direct links.

Dionne Georgiou, Advertising Sales Manager for LOVEFiLM said;

“As LOVEFiLM becomes increasingly entertainment focused, we’re glad to offer our gaming audience not only an anticipated title in this franchise, but also deliver exclusive competitions and content alongside the usual rent or buy options. For LOVEFiLM and our ever-increasing community of users, major games releases are as important as film releases, so we’re thrilled to work with Ubisoft once more for the launch of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2.”

Phil Brannelly, Senior Brand Manager at Ubisoft commented;

“LOVEFiLM’s customer base provides an avid audience not only for fans of the Tom Clancy series, but for gamers that are looking for the best of both worlds – top class gameplay combined with seamless cinematic action.”

The deal was brokered by media planning and buying agency BJKE.

Ubisoft unveils Tom Clancy's HAWX

A Tom Clancy air combat title was first announced back in September 2007, and Ubisoft has now revealed the game will be titled Tom Clancy's HAWX.

According to IGN the game is in development at Ubisoft's Bucharest studio and will enable players to pilot more than 50 planes. Set in the year 2012, the world has become dependent on increasingly powerful private military companies, which has lead to an imminent global conflict.

Thanks to something called Enhanced Reality System (ERS) even an average pilot can take to the skies, using radars, incoming missile detection, an anti-crash system, damage control system, tactical map, weapons trajectory control and more. When the ERS is switched on you'll be taking it safe, but won't have the same freedom as available when ERS is switched off.

Other cool stuff included is cooperative play for up to four players in the campaign and 16-player online battles, which earn experience points and cash used to unlock new weapons and such.

With the Tom Clancy brand attached there's considerable pressure on Ubisoft Bucharest to ensure HAWX lives up to the name come its planned autumn release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Ubisoft pay $100m + for Tom Clancy rights?

As reported earlier - In a deal some analysts are saying could be worth north of $100M, Ubisoft announced last Thursday that it had “concluded an agreement with Mr. Tom Clancy to acquire all intellectual property rights to the Tom Clancy name.” That means Ubisoft now has total control over the 61-year-old author's name regarding its use in video games and all related products, including movies, books, and merchandise.

This is a clear indication of the value Ubisoft places on its ever-growing roster of Tom Clancy branded titles. Over the past decade the military themed games have become the French publisher's most lucrative franchise, with dozens of titles now available on virtually all platforms—including Tom Clancy's Rainbox Six Vegas 2, which was released just two days prior to Ubisoft's announcement and is widely expected to be one of the best-selling console titles this spring.

But just what has Ubisoft purchased? Much like the majority of books that carry the Tom Clancy moniker, none of the Tom Clancy games have actually been penned by the American author. What's more, people don't normally buy Tom Clancy games for their characters, stories, or political concepts. The games' value to consumers derives primarily from their evolved play mechanics and polished presentation—things that have sprung entirely out of the minds of the hard working developers at Ubisoft, and which could easily be applied to a military game lacking the Tom Clancy name. Indeed, that which we call a Tom Clancy game by any other name would still play as sweet.

The question is, without the Tom Clancy logo, would people buy it?

Ubisoft seems to think not. The Tom Clancy brand is familiar. What's more, people who like realistic military games have come to trust anything with the Tom Clancy emblem; all of the most recent console entries in the Tom Clancy canon (Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2, and the Rainbow Six game mentioned above) have received rave reviews from critics and gamers alike.

Simply put, Tom Clancy games sell themselves, and Ubisoft knows it. Indeed, it seems entirely possible that their intention in buying the Tom Clancy name is not just to avoid paying royalties on their existing series, but also to stamp the Tom Clancy brand on newly conceived military themed games that have little or nothing to do with established Tom Clancy stories and characters. In other words, they're going to use it as a marketing device to sell otherwise unrelated games.

Ubisoft currently has at least three wholly new Tom Clancy franchises in the works, including a World War III real-time strategy game called EndWar, an as-yet unnamed air combat title, and a recently unveiled massively multiplayer online game. Little is known about these games yet, but from what I've been able to gather they appear to have next to nothing to do with anything Tom Clancy has ever written. (The book Tom Clancy's EndWar, which was published earlier this year—and which Ubisoft now owns outright—isn't the foundation for the upcoming game, but rather derived from it; a clever tool to drive publicity for the software.)

It would be easy to chalk up Ubisoft's acquisition of the Tom Clancy name as simply being a sly marketing manoeuvre—which it undoubtedly is. However, it may also be good news for gamers tired of finding the shelves of their local game shops lined with little more than sequels to existing blockbusters and games based on movies, comics, and television.

How so? The upcoming Tom Clancy games appear to feature new characters in fresh stories set in their own universes. Plus, Ubisoft has a track record of introducing some great new play concepts in each new Tom Clancy sub-franchise (the Splinter Cell games reinvented the stealth genre, and Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter delivered a decidedly novel form of futuristic combat). In other words, despite the fact that they will be called Tom Clancy's this or that, Ubisoft's new crop of military games could end up being surprisingly original in both narrative and design.

Indeed, it seems possible that by purchasing the ability to use the Tom Clancy name however it wishes, Ubisoft has, in effect, freed its designers to create any kind of military games they can think of while letting the company's suits rest assured that the familiar logo on the package will help these titles earn mountains of cash. And now that they own Tom Clancy's name, they'll get to keep every last penny.

Ubisoft games acquire Tom Clancy name for video games, related products

Ubisoft makes Tom Clancy-branded video games such as Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six.

French video game maker Ubisoft said it acquired intellectual property rights to the Tom Clancy name for use in video games, books and movies.

Ubisoft now expects to have a net cash position of about 130m eur at the end of its fiscal year, down from a previous forecast of about 150m eur.

Ubisoft will make additional, unspecified payments for the Tom Clancy rights in each of its next two fiscal years as well, Ubisoft said in a statement.

Royalty savings generated by the acquisition are expected to have an average positive impact on Ubisoft's operating profit of at least 5m eur per year.
