Allods Online. Titled New Horizons, the new update introduces a set of mercenaries for players to hire as AI assistants for their parties, alongside two additional huge new features to Astral Space. These come in the form of a resource-based mode called Smugglers’ War, where players privateer for their faction, and a major new step in the on-going Path of Greatness quest chainwhich, for the first time in Allods Online history, allows players to actually build and customise their very own allod in Astral Space.
The mercenaries in New Horizons for Allods Online allow characters over level 8 to hire mercenaries for their party using in-game gold. The mercenaries come in six different classes, each with unique and highly useful special abilities and buffs. Hired mercenaries are set to the same character level as the player and will take up a party slot while obeying the player’s orders for a single instance or allod. The mercenaries will also take a share of the low-quality loot in each drop, and if dismissed or killed during an instance can be re-hired for free, but will disband from the player’s party once the instance has been completed.
The classes are; the Protector ‘meat-shield’ tank who can draw enemy attacks away from the party, the Fighter melee specialist who increases physical damage for the entire party, the magical damage-buffing Warlock, the healer Physician who can lift curses and poison effects, the mana and energy-boosting, ranged attack Shooter and finally the area-of-effect enemy de-buff specialist Witch, who also buffs the maximum stamina, mana and energy pools for the entire party.
In New Horizon’s Astral Space content, players will have the chance to participate in exciting trade wars between factions and go on a quest to create their very own allod. Smugglers’ War sees players getting the chance to become a spacefaring privateer for their faction, with the 4th layer of Astral Space filled with ten Allods that continually produce certain types of resources needed on other allods. With the League and the Empire sharing two allods apiece, the remaining six ‘producing’ allods are up for capture by players, setting the stage for Astral vessels to ship resources to where they’re needed, or battle for control of the independent allods and the resources they produce in a dynamic and persistent zone where the players control how the zone changes. With daily quests to set players various tasks, Smuggler’s War adds yet another deep and rewarding chunk of content for Astral vessel owners.
New Horizon’s last feature is perhaps the most exciting. The Path of Greatness is the next step for high-level players towards owning their very own allod in Astral Space. In previous updates, the greatest of Allods Online players have been amassing materials to begin construction of their own Astral allods. With the arrival of New Horizons, the moment these elite forces have been waiting for has finally arrived, their allods have finally taken shape. When building custom allods, players can choose one of three different environment types – jungle, arctic, or desert, and once created a player can also begin constructing a personal tower of their own. The allod also acts as a kind of personal farm for its owner, generating valuable resources – like efficient upgrading reagents that can be collected 3 times weekly to improve gear, or daily gold rewards given for activities taking no more than half an hour per day to complete.
