Sony - Epic to announce PlayStation 3 Exclusive horror game at E3

Next Tuesday Sony and Epic Games will announce a brand-new horror based title exclusively for the PS3. The game will be utilizing the more refined Unreal Engine 3 than found in Gears of War 2.

New PSP Go with 16GB memory NO UMD and Bluetooth - loads of pictures

Live images have leaked of Sony's PSP Go, set to launch at next week's E3.

Engadget and Gizmodo have spilled the beans on the news of the new UMD-less PSP Go that comes with 16GB of memory and a slide screen; also among the features will be built-in Bluetooth and an undisclosed memory slot.

The console will be sold alongside the PSP-3000, but there are no details on price at this time. This is obviously Sony's answer to the lost battle with the PSP Homebrew and Hacking Communities, which have cost many thousands of lost sales with custom firmwares.

Flight 666 tracks land on Rock Band video game on June 9th

rock bandIron Maiden master recordings made available as downloadable content for Rock Band Music Store for the first time

Metal lovers take notice! Harmonix Music, the leading developer of music-based games, and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks, along with distribution partner Electronic Arts announce that 12 tracks from Iron Maiden, one of the world’s most successful rock bands, will be added June 9 to the Rock Band Music Store of downloadable content for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and the Wii system.

The release of these downloadable tracks coincides with the U.S. release of Flight 666 on Blu-ray and DVD as well as a double-CD soundtrack album and limited edition double-vinyl picture disc. Flight 666 documents the first leg of Maiden’s legendary SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR, which took them 50,000 miles around the planet, playing 23 concerts on five continents in just 45 days. One of the stars of the movie is the band’s customized Boeing 757, Ed Force One, which carried the band, all their crew and 12 tons of stage equipment and was piloted by Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson, a fully qualified and active Airline Captain with Astraeus Airlines.

Live recordings of “Aces High,” “Hallowed Be Thy Name,” “Fear of the Dark” and “Iron Maiden,” featured on Flight 666, are among those available for download in the Rock Band Music Store June 9. The other eight songs were amongst those featured on the band’s Somewhere Back in Time World Tour during the first leg of which Flight 666 was filmed. This will mark the first time master recordings from Iron Maiden have been made available on Rock Band games.

"Metal fans have wanted this one for a long time, and we've answered them with some of the greatest Maiden songs, both live and recorded," said Paul DeGooyer, Senior Vice President of Electronic Games & Music for MTV. "Iron Maiden is one of the most successful and widely recognized metal bands of all time, with more than 75 million albums sold, and counting. We're very excited to offer these tracks, and we know fans will be thrilled."

“Fans have been asking us to do something with Rock Band for some time and this seemed to be a perfect opportunity," said Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood. "Our recent Somewhere Back in Time tour was perhaps the most enjoyable one we have ever undertaken, and certainly the most successful with almost two million people catching the shows round the World. So it just seemed a good idea to make some of the songs we played available now so fans can play along with the band on the tour. Then we shall see if they can keep up with the band!”

Flight 666, directed by Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen with the award-winning Banger Productions team (“Metal; A Headbanger’s Journey” and “Global Metal”) contains some of the most spectacular live footage yet seen of the band, taking you on a visual global tour from Mumbai to Sydney, Tokyo to L.A., Mexico City to Costa Rica, Bogota to Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago to New York and Toronto and places in-between. Filmed in stunning Hi Def, the thunderous 5.1 soundtrack was specially mixed by Iron Maiden producer Kevin Shirley to complement the picture quality as an ultimate attack on the senses. Flight 666 was recently awarded this year’s 24 Beats per Second prize for Best Music Documentary at the SXSW Film and Music Festival.

The Matrix Online to close on July 31st

matrix online
Sony Online Entertainment representative Daniel Myers announced that The Matrix Online will be shut down on July 31st.

The game launched in 2005 after several delays and false starts, and shortly thereafter SOE bought the rights to operate the game from developer Monolith. Now, four years later, the game will join the ranks of closed MMOs.

In a forum post, Myers said, "The team will also be whipping up an end-of-the-world event. It won't be quite the same as having over 100 developers in the game as Agents like when we ended beta, but we have 4 years of tricks up our sleeve.

It'll be a chance to revisit all the things that make MxO the memorable experience it is. And how could we pull the plug without crushing everyone's RSI just one more time?"

Bionic Commando back in action on Windows PC this July watch the trailer

Arm yourself! The 20 year wait is over as Bionic Commando swings back into action on Windows PC this coming July. The first true sequel to the classic 1988 Nintendo Entertainment System original, Bionic Commando sees the return of the bionically enhanced Nathan "R.A.D." Spencer. Time has not been kind to Spencer: Five years after his heroic defeat of the Imperials, he has been betrayed by the government he swore to serve, imprisoned for crimes he didn't commit, and sentenced to death.

On the very day of Spencer's execution, terrorists detonate a massive experimental weapon in Ascension City, unleashing an intense earthquake that has turned the city into rubble and wiped out its population. With the terrain in ruins and the city's air defense grid now in the control of a massive terrorist force whose goal remains unclear, the FSA have only one option left - a behind-the-lines assault. It's the perfect job for a Bionic Commando. Bionic Commando transposes the much loved swing-and-shoot gameplay of the 8-bit original onto a stunning 3D environment of towering buildings, suspended roadways and monorails, deep canyons and sheer rock faces, which are traversed using swinging, scaling, climbing and wall-walking techniques.

The Sims 3 Racks Up Over 180,000 pirate downloads Prior To Release

sims 3 video trailerBloomberg reports that pirated versions of EA's The Sims 3 were downloaded over 180,000 times between May 18 and May 21.

The game will not be officially released until June 2nd, and it does not make use of SecuROM for DRM. Quoting: "That outpaces the 400,000 downloads over three weeks for Electronic Arts' Spore, the most-pirated game of 2008.

... Copies of the game available on file-sharing Web sites aren't the full version, Electronic Arts said. 'The pirated version is a buggy, pre-final build of the game,' Holly Rockwood, a company spokeswoman, said in an e-mailed statement.

'It's not the full game. Half the world — an entire city — is missing from the pirated copy.'"

Jumpgate Evolution video game delayed until June say NetDevil

Jumpgate EvolutionEmboldened by the similar setback to Champions Online, Jumpgate Evolution developer NetDevil has announced that the space MMO will not be released in June, as was originally planned.

NetDevil's president, Scott Brown, said, "One of the things we've always promised is that we would not release an unfinished product, nor would we subject players to a sub-par experience. ...

Jumpgate Evolution
Jumpgate Evolution
Jumpgate Evolution
Jumpgate Evolution

Jumpgate Evolution is nearly feature complete, but since entering the Friends & Family phase of testing we've been able to bring new eyes onto the game and get solid, crucial feedback from actual players and fans. Based on these results, it is clear that the product needs more time to meet its objectives.

As an example, we have received and read lots of feedback regarding the instanced and public PvP systems. The feedback has been vital in helping us polish and improve this core feature of the game." A new release date has not yet been selected.

Sony to show Wiimote-Like PlayStation 3 Controller At E3

Wii with Wiimote (transparent background with ...We saw a Microsoft patent on a Wiimote-like device, and now rumors say that Sony too has a similar device in the works.

This isn't surprising, given how dominant Nintendo's Wii has proved to be in this hardware generation.

However, many gaming-geeks continue to lament the move away from plain old button-pressing. What is exciting is the prospect that all three companies may incorporate Johnny Lee-style head-tracking into the next console generation, which achieves a convincing 3D illusion on a regular vid-screen, leaving us just a few steps away from true positional 3D.

Both the Microsoft and Sony patents incorporate a camera looking at the user, a required setup for achieving positional head-tracking.

Microsoft Xbox 360 to get Live TV and massive VOD Update

sky on xbox"It's a global first for Microsoft, and massive news for Xbox owners. Redmond and the largest pay TV service in the UK — Sky, owned in part by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp — has tied a deal that brings simulcast TV, sports, entertainment shows, pay-per-view movies and back catalogue television to the Xbox 360.

It's an entirely streamed service, offering no download-to-own content, and partly rivals the BBC iPlayer, which is available on UK PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Wii. The service will go live later in the year at no cost to existing subscribers, and screenshots show it fits in seamlessly with the Xbox Live interface."

Apple to launch new video game platform in 2010 - the iBox?

apple enter games console marketGamesIndustry reports on comments by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot about what to expect from the coming generation of gaming hardware. In addition to greater integration between game hardware and set-top boxes, he said he doesn't expect Apple to stop with the iPhone as a platform for games.

"We will see more customers coming to the videogame industry, and they will not only come to the basic consoles like we have today, but they will start also to come on all the boxes that you see under the TVs. TV boxes will be more powerful, and with accessibility, will help to take more people.

So we will see more consoles on which we will be able to put product." Guillemot continued, "... because you saw new interfaces with the Wii, with the Wiimote, and also with the DS, with the stylus, what we see for the future is that there will be also big announcements in interfaces.

And it will not only happen on consoles, but it will also happen on those TV boxes as well."
