World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King player collapses after 24hrs playing.

World of WarcraftA 15-year-old collapses after playing online combat game World of Warcraft's new Wrath of the Lich King extension for 24 hours...

The boy, from Laholm Sweden, had been playing with friends when after the marathon session he took what is believed to be an epileptic fit.

A local newspaper reported that the teenagers had played all day and night only stopping to eat. World of Warcraft takes place in a virtual online world full of mythical creatures controlled by players from around the world.

In the past some players have become 'addicted' to the game and immerse themselves in this virtual world and leave the 'real' world behind.

Players can achieve higher rankings with this addition and on French player managed to get to the top ranking after a reported 27 hour session playing the game.

Blizzard, the game makers, expected this feat to take the average player weeks or even months to achive.

The French player known as Nymh used his friends playing along side him to gain the top ranking.

Microsoft and Blizzard ban and suspend thousands of gamers

Video game cheats and pirates got a surprise this week, as Microsoft and Blizzard banned and suspended hundreds of thousands of gamers for infractions.

Microsoft got things started by banning from Xbox Live an unspecified number of gamers who had modified their consoles to play pirated – backup – copies of their games.

There were no official numbers, but the forums where such gamers cruise were full of bizarre outrage. "How dare they ban me for playing pirated games!" some said.

Blizzard, maker of World of Warcraft, was more forthright, stating that it had banned 350,000 online players from its older StarCraft and Diablo II titles for using software cheats and hacks during online games against other players.

What's annoying is that these video game companies are having to divert what seems a growing pool of resources to chasing and defeating these players.

That's time and money and manpower that doesn't go into making new games or improving existing titles.

This figure is based on the number of players who bought Burning Crusade expansion. Lich King has a new top level of 80 that's 10 higher than Burning Crusade and 20 higher than the original WoW.

Wrath of the Lich King offers the new 'hero class', the necromantic death knight; with more than 700 goals on offer plus a new continent called Northrend to play on.

Are Warhammer video game players returning to World of Warcraft?

warhammer video game
While a number of World of Warcraft users dropped the widely popular MMO to play EA's recently released Warhammer Online, more than half of those gamers have already returned to Blizzard's market-leader.

That's according to COO Paul Sams, who said the pattern of players leaving and then returning to Warcraft follows that of any major MMO release.

"We've certainly had some of that happen, which is the same thing we experienced with Age of Conan and each time an MMO has come out we've seen some amount of reduction of use," he said in an exclusive interview published today.

Runes of Magic - free to play PC quest MMO video game

http://www.gamezplay.orgThe world of Runes of Magic consists not only of vast and varied regions, but there are literally dozens of caves and mines in Taborea, reaching deep down below the surface of the earth. In the dangerous dungeons of Frogster's ambitious fantasy online role-playing game, you can not only find gremlins and goblins, but far more dangerous creatures and monsters.

Taborea is a continuous persistent world even extending below the surface of the earth. But Runes of Magic offers instanced dungeons also, where parties of brave adventurers meet to complete special tasks or just to discover exciting places. Once in the dungeon, the adventurers are on their own in their battle against fierce bosses and their henchmen. Now it will be decided if the quest party is tactically suitable assembled and harmonizes to complete their quests. Extreme caution is advised, if the boss-mob has no level number, but displays a small crown instead. Those special bosses are extremely dangerous and many a brave soul has already lost their life trying to defeat them.

http://www.gamezplay.org
Runes of Magic not only offers static dungeons, but players will find dynamically generated dungeons as well, where new monsters and treasures are randomly generated every time a player enters (so called tile-based dungeons). The dynamic cave systems regenerate by random every time players re-enter and therefore can be discovered anew again and again. If the most dangerous group of monsters waited just behind the next corner during your last visit, they surely will be somewhere else next time and will carry different loot as well. So it always pays off to drop by more often without having to fear to be bored over time.

But not all of those dark places in Runes of Magic can be entered at all times. There are dungeons that are only accessible at certain times – or to persons with a certain fame or reputation. For some of the challenges waiting in those dungeons, even the toughest group of six adventurers won't be enough, so there is only one way: form a raid! Dozens of player's are needed to send powerful monsters that terrorize the lands and guard vast treasures back to their maker Ayvenas. But their dark retreats are huge and they command armies of powerful followers, so even reaching those bosses will be very dangerous.

runes of magic gamezplay.org

According to developer Runewaker Entertainment, the game world of Runes of Magic will at release not only contain instanced raids, but there will be huge persistent dungeons with dozens of levels as well, that offer enough room for multiple groups of adventurers. In these, players can battle against monsters of their own strength and move on to new battlegrounds, as soon as they reach higher levels. And if the AI creatures of darkness aren't challenging enough, players can battle other players in special PvP dungeons. Bold players can still register for the beta on the official website www.runesofmagic.com.

Runes of Magic – a world full of wizardry and adventure
With an extensive range of features Runes of Magic prepares to redefine the standard of free-to-play MMO games. Right from the launch Runes of Magic will convey its absorbing story in over 600 quests embedded in an atmospheric world. Players can choose from six main classes. Combined with a secondary class they dispose of 36 individual character classes over all. All characters possess unique skills with impressive combo attacks and can use mounts in the later stages of game play. A particularly attractive feature for guilds and players is the possibility to arrange their own virtual homes with individual furnishing. Thanks to an extensive crafting and reputation system, thrilling PVP as well as demanding dungeons and boss-monsters, no wishes remain unsatisfied. The Taiwanese developer Runewaker has developed Runes of Magic according to western MMO standards within a time frame of three years. The studio will provide new challenges for players every three to four months with free add-ons and updates. MMO fans can find more information, pictures and videos on the official website www.runesofmagic.com.

Runes of Magic features
  • Free2play, no monthly fees, free download
  • Dual class system with switchable primary and secondary classes
  • Enthralling background story
  • Already over 600 quests and level comprehensive quest series on launch
  • Instanced and persistent dungeons

If you want to take on World of Warcraft it'll cost you a billion...

Monumental Games boss Rik Alexander has explained why his studio is producing an MMO based around football - rather than opting for a more traditional fantasy theme.

"Sports just makes the most sense," he told the audience at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, during an MMO roundtable. "Loads of people like football. At Monumental we want to take national pastimes and make them MMOs - things like fishing or trainspotting," Alexander said - though he was careful to note Monumental isn't currently working on any fishing or trainspotting-themed games.

"Fantasy is very well serviced. I'd need a billion quid to take on WoW," he added, to which Redbedlam boss Kerry Fraser-Robinson responded, "I could do it for a tenth of that."

Monumental's title, Football Superstars, isn't the only sports-themed MMO in development - but according to Alexander, it could be the best. "Other people are doing it wrong - sorry if that sounds a little bigheaded, but they're not thinking about it the right way or funding it the right way," he said.

"When we set up Monumental three years ago I didn't want to be a game developer. I didn't think it was a very good business model, for all the fundamental reasons - having to rely on publishers to give you money, 18 to 24 month development cycles...

"MMOs, you get one deal and it's there for 10 or 20 years, who knows. And that's really a good way to think about business." However, Alexander added, "The problem is obviously making a successful one in the first place."
