George "GeoHot" Hotz, a hacker renowned for cracking the Apple iPhone, has just announced his finding and public release of the root key used by Sony's PlayStation 3 console. The root key was in-place to verify the authenticity of software being run on the PS3, in order to counter-act the use of pirated/homebrew software on the console.
However, with this release, should the root key be correctly applied, it would mean that any software could be played on the PlayStation 3, including modified versions of original content or entirely new games altogether.

If you're like me and hate waiting for your game to install (thought that had ended with the Spectrum) then Sony promise you'll get to play Gran Turismo 5 will it installs.
The game will allow you to load in chunks of code letting you load the basics then add tracks and stages cars etc as you progress. With GT5 code taking up a hefty 6.3GBs of HD space to install the complete game, it would take up to 40 of precious gaming minutes to install.Thursday, October 28, 2010

God of War: Ghost Of Sparta developer Ready At Dawn claim their PSP development is being endangered by piracy on Sony's portable console. "If you're a developer right now and you're owned by a publisher it's hard enough, so imagine what it's like if you're an independent covering all your costs yourself. New PSP Firmware Update 6.31 - but don't expect too much...
Much like its almost barren PlayStation 3 firmware 3.41 counterpart, PSP firmware 6.31 is now live, but don't expect much.
The latest update for Sony's handheld doesn't deliver any new features, but rather provides the typical system software stability during use of some PSP format software titles has been improved update which typically is made available when Sony wants to build barriers against homebrew developers and hackers, which we've come to understand nearly five and a half versions later.

Sony limit 3D on PS3 to 720p not 1080p the console is capable of
3D graphics use a lot of render power of that there is no doubt. The trade off for Sony is to limit developers to 720p resolution in their 3D games while the console can render 1080p images. Sony say the limit has been imposed as 1080p 3D image would not render smoothly at 60 frames-per-second on their flagship console.
