The Sims 3 Racks Up Over 180,000 pirate downloads Prior To Release

sims 3 video trailerBloomberg reports that pirated versions of EA's The Sims 3 were downloaded over 180,000 times between May 18 and May 21.

The game will not be officially released until June 2nd, and it does not make use of SecuROM for DRM. Quoting: "That outpaces the 400,000 downloads over three weeks for Electronic Arts' Spore, the most-pirated game of 2008.

... Copies of the game available on file-sharing Web sites aren't the full version, Electronic Arts said. 'The pirated version is a buggy, pre-final build of the game,' Holly Rockwood, a company spokeswoman, said in an e-mailed statement.

'It's not the full game. Half the world — an entire city — is missing from the pirated copy.'"

Britain's Got Talent singing sensation Susan Boyle appears in The Sims 3 video game trailer

susan boyle britain's got talentThe Britain's Got Talent singing sensation Susan Boyle appears in this Sims 3 video game trailer.

Susan Boyle is a Scottish singer who came to public attention when she appeared as a contestant on the third series of Britain's Got Talent. Boyle became known when she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables in the competition's first round, first broadcast in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2009.

Boyle has always enjoyed singing; she attended Edinburgh Acting School, and took part in the Edinburgh Fringe. Prior to her appearance on Britain's Got Talent, her main experience had come from singing in church and karaoke in the local pubs in her village. She had also tried out several times for My Kind of People.

When she appeared on the Britain's Got Talent stage, the audience and the judges appeared apprehensive and judgmental of her unpolished appearance. Upon finishing her song, she received a standing ovation from the live audience and unanimous praise from the judges,[10] and has been dubbed "The Woman Who Shut Up Simon Cowell".

The contrast between the audience's first impression of her when she appeared on stage compared to the ovation she received afterwards triggered global interest. Articles about her appeared in newspapers worldwide, while the numbers who watched videos of her audition have set an online record. Within nine days of her televised debut, videos of her audition, subsequent interviews of her, and her 1999 rendition of "Cry Me a River" had been viewed a combined total of over 100 million times on the Internet. Cowell is reported to be setting up a contract with Boyle with his Syco Music company label, a subsidiary of Sony Music.

Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942 Tank Sim video game demo download

steel fury

Are you up for an action-packed lesson in one of the most violent times in history? If so, then pay attention as global video game publisher Lighthouse Interactive presents a new trailer for Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 (PC).

The trailer gives players a small taste of how warfare is done in one of the game’s 30 playable missions. Loading, aiming and attacking unfold in quick succession as the tank destroys everything in its way – trees, buildings, walls – as soldiers frantically run for cover. Discus Games and Graviteam have painstakingly recreating environments, tanks and missions from archives and photo references to lend Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 an authentic and accomplished feel for all war sim fans to admire.
steel fury

The events of Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 are based on a little-known Russian offensive during May 1942, in which a German counterattack had three Soviet armies surrounded, forcing them to fight their way out of the Barvenkovskiy Kotel, which thereafter was infamously dubbed, the ‘meat grinder’.

Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 is available online now form the Lighthouse Interactive Shop. The UK, Scandinavian and direct download release has been set for 5th December, with German and French releases planned for Q1-2009.

Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942 is based on real-life events that took place from May 12 to 28, 1942, which engaged the Red Army in the fight of their lives. During a vicious German counterattack that began on May 17, 1942, three Soviet Armies were surrounded and were forced to fight in what has become known as the “meat grinder." Through the monstrous roar of tanks and military vehicles, and the blaring sounds of war, players will experience bitterness at the loss of their comrades during battle and elation when they are victorious.

Watch the video on my YouTube channel here...

FEATURES

  • Historical Authenticity: Missions are based on true historical events recreated from archives and photo references, including the interiors and exteriors of vehicles and tactical markings. The player has access to vast battlefields without obstructions from impenetrable forests or other obstacles, allowing them to choose any path available to achieve victory!
  • Fear and Fury Filled Missions: Throughout 30 playable missions in three unique single-player campaigns, experience large-scale battles with numerous active vehicles.
  • Vehicles: Interact with and command all units involved in the advance against the enemy, including: more than 40 different realistically modelled vehicles, with three playable tanks: T-34/76 mod. 1941, Mk.II ‘Matilda’ III, and the Pz. IV Ausf. F2.
  • Take Full Control: In first and third person views, assume crew positions for Commander, Gunner, Loader, Driver, and Hull Gunner.
  • Realistic Game Physics: The advanced game engine allows for precise calculation of ballistics and collisions models. Objects can be destroyed and the terrain is deformable. Both player and AI controlled vehicles are subject to realistic physics.Realistic Environments: The game engine supports dynamic lighting, featuring nighttime missions and different weather conditions. The engine's particle system allows for realistic smoke and water effects, as well as debris from explosions.
  • Damage Model: Everything in the path of a tank-round can be destroyed. Vehicles can damage buildings and knock down trees. Due to the advanced game engine, impacting shells create craters and trenches take damage when tanks run over them, deforming the terrain.
  • Difficulty Levels: Players can adjust the level of complexity the game offers. Missions gradually raise the difficulty level by introducing more vehicles, troops, and harder to achieve mission goals. Thanks to training missions, the player can easily learn how to control their tank and supporting AI troops from all crew positions.
  • Editors and Utilities: Players have the ability to create custom missions and make modifications. Easy-to-use editors make it possible to add new vehicles and weapons to the game.

Steve Jablonsky creates the music for Sims 3 PC video game

sims 3 video game logo
Award-winning composer Steve Jablonsky will score the theme music for the highly anticipated next-generation flagship PC game from The Sims Label, The Sims 3. Recently honored with a BMI Film Music Award for his work on The Transformers soundtrack, Jablonsky has been repeatedly recognized for his contributions to film, TV and videogames. Now, his talents will be used to infuse a rich, orchestral sound into The Sims 3 to reflect the game’s new seamless open neighborhood.

sims 3 video game music
“We are very excited about the new direction of the music in The Sims 3. We really wanted to convey the significance of the seamless open neighborhood with each aspect of this game because it is a key innovation from the previous game and Steve has done that beautifully with the sound,” said Ben Bell, Executive Producer of The Sims 3.
In addition to the theme music, Jablonsky’s score is featured throughout key areas of the game. For instance, in Create A Sim, the music will reflect the creative nature of choosing from a selection of facial features, hairstyles and outfits. There will also be a unique sound to distinguish build and buy modes in which you can create your dream home and design the neighborhood. In The Sims 3, you are able to visit many areas of the town for the first time such as the beach, gym, bistro or even a friend’s home. The music will also follow suit. For instance, when you are walking by the beach, the sound will coordinate. You might hear seagulls, waves crashing and the music will reflect the breezy feeling of being near the ocean. The gym will also feature appropriate music suited for that specific environment such as fast paced disco tech.

The Sims 3 offers you unparalleled opportunities for customization with each aspect of the game including music. You have the freedom to choose the ambient sounds of your game. The stereo feature offers you a wide range of genres to choose from or you can load your own music! In addition, now you have the freedom to completely customise the sound of your Sims voice. You can choose from a wide variety of voices and then alter the pitch to create unique sounding Sims.
“It is extremely exciting to be involved in a blockbuster project like The Sims 3, where the music sets the tone for the entire user experience,” said Jablonsky. “Working on one of the most anticipated games in the world, not to mention the best selling PC franchise of all time, is quite an honor and I’ve had a blast getting to know The Sims 3 team of talented individuals.”
Jablonsky was first introduced to music at the age of twelve, when his grandfather bought him a clarinet as a birthday gift. He quickly developed a passion for music, performing in several orchestras during his teenage years and graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in Music Study. His interest in film music started at an early age, influenced in particular by film composers Ennio Morricone and Hans Zimmer. He went on to score, compose or direct the music for such films, TV shows and videogames as Transformers (2007), The Island (2005), Desperate Housewives (2004-2007) and Command and Conquer™ 3: Kane’s Wrath (2008).
"We are very excited about the innovations of The Sims 3, and even more thrilled to have a composer of Steve's caliber crafting the sound of what is clearly the most globally anticipated game of the year,” said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Audio at EA. “We hold our games' original music to the same creative standards as major movie studios, and Steve Jablonsky has both a remarkable talent for scoring blockbuster entertainment as well as an innate understanding of the interactive opportunities of the videogame medium. We are thrilled that he has now brought his unique expertise to the dramatic, energetic and playful world of The Sims.”

CITIES XL for Windows PC for the Next Generation of City-Builders

Monte Cristo Unveils the Next Generation of City-Builders

Think massive, think online, think CITIES XL

Monte Cristo is pleased to announce CITIES XL for Windows today. In this next-generation take on the city building genre, realism will be pushed to the limit with cities that are bigger, more realistic and more sophisticated than ever before. CITIES XL™ will expand upon all the features that make city builders fun and interesting, while also letting players take their game online, as they interact with others in a massive online environment.

CITIES XL allows gamers to develop cities on realistic 3D maps using an incredible collection of unique structures and monuments based on American, Asian and European-influenced architectural styles. The maps feature a variety of environments: mountains, hills, canyons, beaches and islands, all set in different climates from tropical to desert, Mediterranean to temperate. Players must create the right combinations of social services, leisure activities, special events and other job opportunities within their cities in order to feed, clothe, employ and entertain their citizens. Be it planning and building a new zoo, public park, residential neighborhood or transit system - there's always a fresh and exciting challenge for would-be city managers and mayors in CITIES XL.
"We believe that the level of detail and realism brought to CITIES XL answers the needs of city-builder fans," said Jérôme Gastaldi, COO of Monte Cristo. "We believe fans of the genre will definitely enjoy CITIES XL and many of those fans have provided us with feedback on our development so far. We are really proud to have such a cool and proactive community."
The game's online features and services will allow players to create interconnected cities on virtual and persistent planets. Mayors can share and trade with one another, specialize their economy and team up with befriended cities to create sprawling metropolises. Life on the planet will be punctuated by events and competitions - a concert held in one town may, for example, be attended by visitors from other areas who can also enjoy a walk around the city to admire the urban creations of multiple players. By combining a fantastic single-player game with the social and multiplayer aspects of an MMO, CITIES XL will shape the future of the genre by offering more variety, bigger cities and multiple gameplay layers.
