Tripwire publishing Killing Floor in North American retail for PC

Tripwire Interactive is delighted to announce that we will now be self-publishing, starting with the retail version of our own Steam hit zombie co-op shooter – Killing Floor. Tripwire will be the publisher for Killing Floor in North American stores, with the boxes due for shipping to retail outlets in USA and Canada shortly. As always with Tripwire titles, the retail version will be fully supported going forward with additional free updates for the game. MSRP will be $19.99 in the USA.

About the game

Killing Floor is a Co-op Survival Horror FPS taking place in the devastated cities and countryside of England, after a series of cloning experiments for the military goes horribly wrong. You and your friends are members of the military and police, dropped into these locations with a simple mission: survive long enough to cleanse the area of the failed experiments. The only problem is, these “experiments” aren’t waiting to be taken out – they’re coming for YOU!

Key features:
  • Co-op game mode for up to six players obliterating multiple waves of specimens
  • Persistent Perks system, allowing players to convert their in-game achievements into permanent improvements to their character’s skills and abilities
  • Over 40 Steam Achievements, including “Dignity for the dead” for killing 10 enemies feeding on dead teammates’ corpses and “Hot Cross Fun” for finishing off 25 burning enemies with a Crossbow.
  • Watch those crucial and violent creature deaths in slomo “ZEDtime”, even in multiplayer
  • Solo game mode for offline play
  • 9 different monster types trying to eat your face off, armed with everything from teeth and claws, through to chainsaws, chainguns and rocket-launchers
  • 14+ weapons for the players to chose from, ranging from knives and fire-axes up to pump shotguns, rifles and a flamethrower. Add in a welder, medical tools and body armor to help the players survive
  • Players choose which Perks to play with, so they can best balance out a co-op team to survive the horrors
  • Open, non-linear play areas: choose when and where to fight – or run; weld doors closed to try and direct the monster horde
  • Fully-configurable, allowing players to change things as simple as the difficulty level or number of creature waves, or go so far as to set up their own favorite waves of monsters
  • Includes SDK for the creation of new levels and mods

Mobile veteran Venan Entertainment, IN. announces new "Venan Arcade" hand-held gaming initiative!

Venan Entertainment, a premier developer of DS, iPhone, iPod, and mobile games, today announced the creation of a new game development initiative: Venan Arcade.

“Although Venan has been a prominent developer in mobile for many years, our primary business model has been behind-the-scenes contract development for publishers like EA, THQ and Sega.” said Brandon Curiel, CEO and Lead Designer at Venan Entertainment. “Venan Arcade represents our initiative to step from behind the curtain and deliver great gameplay experiences directly to our consumers.”Venan Entertainment, a premier developer of DS, iPhone, iPod, and mobile games, today announced the creation of a new game development initiative: Venan Arcade.

“Although Venan has been a prominent developer in mobile for many years, our primary business model has been behind-the-scenes contract development for publishers like EA, THQ and Sega.” said Brandon Curiel, CEO and Lead Designer at Venan Entertainment. “Venan Arcade represents our initiative to step from behind the curtain and deliver great gameplay experiences directly to our consumers.”

Venan Arcade will initially focus on creating high-quality portable gaming experiences that can be purchased on the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch. Venan Arcade titles will be priced competitively, but never overpriced.

“With the App Store, all the traditional notions of price points have changed,” said Curiel. “What people are learning is that consumers are much more willing to try new experiences when you reduce the barrier of entry. And when you deliver a great product that is fun, accessible, and has great value, the sales will take care of themselves.”

Venan Entertainment, perhaps best known for the critically acclaimed, BAFTA-nominated DS title NINJATOWN, as well as the top-selling iPhone/iPod Touch smash hit MONOPOLY HERE & NOW: THE WORLD EDITION, will continue

its traditional work of developing high-profile AAA franchises for major publishers. Since it was founded in 2002, Venan has developed mobile titles based on many well-known game, film, and television IP’s such as MONOPOLY, NBA LIVE, NBA STREET, JAWS, SOUTH PARK, and SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS. Curiel notes, “In addition to Venan Arcade, we have several iPhone projects underway for some top-notch brands. It’s going to be an exciting year for us on the iPhone.”

The first game in the Venan Arcade initiative will be a “nonlinear top-down shooter,” according to Curiel. “The core gameplay is based on a familiar model that most gamers will recognize right away, but we’ve built on top of that to create an all-new gameplay experience. Our philosophy is that Venan Arcade titles should cater to everybody’s
play style, whether it’s casual or hardcore.”

Venan Arcade’s first title will be developed for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and will be available in early September.

A formal announcement of this first title is expected later this week.

Neo Retro shooter Emotigeddon gets a makeover

Neo Retro 2D shooter Emotigeddon has received a graphical and musical overhaul. The game's graphics have been vastly improved, and a pumping trance soundtrack has been added.

Emotigeddon is an incredibly fast paced adrenaline packed 2D side-scrolling shooter set in a digital world called Electopia. Its inhabitants are the emoticons used by people in their instant messaging conversations. Recently, people have started using too many unhappy smiley faces, and the unhappy faces have grown strong. The unhappy faces have begun taking over the happy faces, and sadness and anger have spread throughout Electopia. It is emoticon armageddon.

Players assume the role of the leader of the Happy rebellion, and their mission is to restore balance by fighting the unhappy faces. The players have powerful weaponry at their disposal with which to restore the balance.

Rhys Griffiths, Game Director at Heatbeam Software said: “The new character art looks fantastic, it really brings the emoticons to life. The music helps complement the adrenaline packed action. It's great when the music reaches a climax just as you're in the midst of an really frantic battle, it sends shivers down my spine. The game is a much more immersive experience now."

To complement Emotigeddon's new lick of paint, the gameplay has also been tweaked in order to appeal to a broader range of gamers: the grappling hook has been made considerably easier to use and additionally difficulty settings have been added.

“The game is now much more accessible," added Griffiths. “the grappling hook is easier to use, which will make moving around like a lunatic even more fun. The easier difficulty settings allow a wider range of players to enjoy the game to its fullest. The new extra hard mode should challenge even the most hardcore players, and the easier modes will let the more casual player enjoy the game as well.”
