Skype on Sony PlayStation portable

Back in early January, the Nikkei business daily announced that Sony and Skype had reportedly joined forces, so that Sony’s PlayStation Portable to come with Skype’s software. At that moment, Nikkei’s report seemed simply a rumor, taking also into account that the business daily claimed that the brand new PSPs would be available at the end of January.

But rumors proved to be true after all, as Sony later admitted that such a project existed, although its launch was not scheduled for January. The Japanese company announced two days ago that a Skype web phone function would be added to its PlayStation Portable later in March and that the brand new gaming devices would be available in Japan starting with March 19. The ones who already owe a PSP can buy only the necessary microphone in order to be able to use Skype’s voice chat service.

Skype, which has recently become a unit of eBay, is highly popular for its Voice-over-IP service that offers people from all over the world the possibility to voice chat from their computers. Adding Skype’s software to Sony’s PlayStation Portable represents a smart move for the Japanese company, Nintendo’s everlasting rival.

Sony announced back in January that the launch of the brand new handheld gaming machine had to be delayed because of a microphone, which did not meet Skype specifications. However, it seems that the PSP would eventually come with the same microphone, which would be sold with the recommendation to be used within 10 centimeters of user’s mouth.
PSP owners from Japan will be able to buy the microphone starting with March 19; it will cost 2,500 yen ($24).

Baseball Franchise set for the new Season with MLB 08 The Show on Sony PLAYSTATION 3 PlayStation 2 and PSP - PlayStationPortable

Critically Acclaimed Baseball Franchise Set For the New Season With MLB 08 The ShowTM on PLAYSTATION 3, PlayStation 2 and PSP - PlayStationPortable

Popular Baseball Title Delivers the Perfect Blend of Unique...

Sony Computer Entertainment America announced the North American launch of MLB 08 THE SHOW, available exclusively for PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3), PlayStation 2 and PSP - PlayStationPortable. Already widely considered the most authentic baseball franchise on the market, MLB 08 THE SHOW comes out swinging for the fences to deliver an unrivaled simulation with broadcast quality presentation. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios, San Diego Studio, MLB 08 THE SHOW looks to build on its critical acclaim and its history as the longest-running officially licensed baseball title on PlayStation platforms.

To provide the closest experience possible, next to actually trying to make it in the Majors, MLB 08 THE SHOW introduces a more immersive Road to The Show mode. As gamers attempt to make a starting line-up in the Big Leagues, playing on both offense and defense from a custom-created player’s perspective, a more robust dynamic goal system and a new career advancement system will determine when a player is eligible for a promotion. Additionally, the custom-created players are more interactive, with pitchers now experiencing mound visits, catchers enduring more defense situations, and with gamers being able to further adjust a player’s positioning – all making Road to The Show mode even more realistic.

“Baseball fans know that the MLB franchise has a long-standing winning tradition and that we strive to create highly-innovative and intuitive features in order to deliver the best baseball title on the market,” said Jeff Reese, Director, Software Marketing, SCEA. “With the advancements made to the feature set, along with the lighting, textures and the added little nuances in the game, MLB 08 THE SHOW sets a new bar for authentic play and unsurpassed realism.”

Providing players with some additional performance incentives, the MLB franchise introduces the new Progressive Batting Performance feature, which will both reward players for superior performance and penalize them for hitting slumps. Specific to each individual batter, players will be rewarded or punished, based on how that batter that performs beyond his “natural ability” while under user control. Adding to the online feature set, which includes customizable Online League Play, scrolling MLB Score Ticker and more, MLB 08 THE SHOW introduces SCOUT (SportsConnect Online User Tracking), which allows gamers to set and store their game preferences on the MLB server, and then enables the system to look for a Quick Match with opponents that fit similar competitive criteria.

As the only first party franchise officially licensed by Major League Baseball Properties Inc. (MLBP), Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), MLB 08 THE SHOW features more than 3,000 individual player animations, including personalized stances, pitching animations, individual swings, batting rituals and motion captures from MLB® players. Additionally, the franchise adds to the realism by including Umpire Personalities combined with Interactive Hot and Cold Zones and Player-scaled Strike Zones, Release, and comprehensive commentary, featuring the three-man booth of Rex Huddler, Matt Vasgerian and Dave Campbell.

Joining an elite group of MLB All-Stars that have graced the cover of the MLB franchise, such as New York Mets third baseman David Wright, Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Oritz, and Angels outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, this year’s cover athlete and spokesman, Philadelphia Phillies™ All-Star first basemen Ryan Howard, is known for his personality and work ethic, which exemplifies the MLB franchise. Howard is just the second player in Major League Baseball™ history to win the Rookie of the Year honors and a Most Valuable Player award in successive seasons.

Marketing efforts for MLB 08 THE SHOW include a marketing campaign across TV, radio, print and online, that will run nationally throughout the entire Major League Baseball season. Additionally, MLB 08 THE SHOW will receive full public relations and promotional support, as well as dedicated point-of-purchase displays and merchandising support.

Warriors Orochi's gargantuan cast of legendary Warriors on PC & Sony PlayStationPortablePSP

THE BRAWL TO END ALL BRAWLS SPILLS ONTO PC & PSP

Warriors Orochi's gargantuan cast of legendary Warriors decide to meet after school for the mother of all scraps. Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

KOEI today announced the release of Warriors Orochi on PC and PSP. For the first time in the history of the multi-million selling Warriors’ series Warriors Orochi combined the entire casts of both Samurai Warriors and Dynasty Warriors for one almighty tear up. Now, this pulsating recreation of historical battlefield action is coming to the PSP (PlayStationPortable) System and PC and will be available to buy in store on March 28, 2008.

“Having received so much feedback from fans who were desperate to have the full Warriors console experience in a portable format we’re really pleased to now be able to give them exactly what they’ve wished for.” Said Will Curley, Sales Manager for KOEI Europe. “For the first time on PSP the huge battlefields from the console versions of Warriors Orochi have been recreated and crammed into a portable gaming experience along with the entire cast of characters. Warriors Orochi is a massive step forward for Warriors games on PSP and we’ve been really impressed with just what we can do on PSP. Bringing our unique brand of tactical action to PC is also a very significant move for us as we look ahead to achieving much more on this platform. Warriors Orochi is just the first step as we look towards a number of new releases on PC in the coming months.”

About WARRIORS OROCHI

Warriors Orochi boasts an amazing roster of 77 playable characters from both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises, while four action-packed “crossover” storylines unveil events where characters from either series are pitted against one another.

The game’s new “Team Battle System” and “Weapon Fusion” push Tactical Action to a whole new level. For the first time in KOEI’s Tactical Action games, players can create their own three-person tag team. At any given time, one warrior will be engaged in battle, while the other two are recuperating; restoring their Life Meters and Musou Gauges. Every character is categorized according to offensive ability, and with new fighting techniques, it’s up to the player to find the most lethal combination of warriors. “Weapon Fusion” lets players combine the attributes from different weapons for more devastating results.

Sony PlayStationPortable PSP Go! Messenger Launched - Instant messaging Free at BT WiFi hotspots

We first caught a glimpse of Go!Messenger way back in August last year at the Games Convention, and now a mere five months later it's launched in the UK. If you fancy a bit of instant messaging and video conferencing on your PSP, for free at BT WiFi hotspots, then you'll want to pay attention.

Importantly, unlime many the recent additions such as Skype, you'll not need to have a Slim & Lite PSP, with its improved hardware specs, to get on the Go!Messenger gravy train, so there are no limitations. Also importantly there is no cost to actually download the program.

As well as simple text-based instant messaging, Go!Messenger will also allow purchasers of the optional Go!Cam to stream video and audio to any other PSP also using the program. While the appeal of doing so doesn't immediately seem as great as using, say, Skype or Windows Live Messenger, I have no doubt that it will prove popular.

Adding Go!Messenger to the PSP will work exactly like the Skype add-on, in that rather than requiring a software update, would-be users simply download the software to the console and install. You'll have to wait until tomorrow to actually grab the download, which will appear on the PlayStation store.
