SRO advance screenings of Uwe Boll’s “Postal” at New York’s Tribeca Film Center on April 1 and April 3 in Chicago have created genuine buzz regarding the film’s May 23rd rollout. The popular site Times Square Gossip, in a story entitled “Osama Bin Laden Goes time last night with Village People icon Randy Jones at the screening of ‘Postal’, the new movie based on the hit video game. This is a must see movie if you want to have some old time laughs. Scenes with Osama Bin Laden are so funny you are going to drop your popcorn…”

Times Square Gossip went on to attest: “’Postal’ will take you back to all the laughs you had as a teen. I haven't seen a movie this funny since then, with the audience yelling and falling on the floor laughing.”

Michael J. Hein, Director of The New York City City Horror Film Festival, declares: “’Postal’ is the funniest film of the year…hands down!”

Beowulf Movie Is Like A Video Game

You can talk about Ray Harryhausen and how Beowulf is a nod to the master special effects artist. But when I saw Beowulf at a 3-D IMAX last night, all I could think about was how the movie was influenced by video games. This may herald a sea change in the movie industry when it comes to making action scenes in epic, animated movies. For in Beowulf’s action sequences, I saw everything from the monster battles in Sony’s God of War to the infected townspeople in Resident Evil 4 (Grendel looks like a skinless video game zombie in the movie).

Now, you can say that I play too many video games and that movie special effects are influenced by other movies, not games. But I don’t see it that way. Sure, the scenes in God of War aren’t as graphically detailed as in Beowulf. But the guys that make the effects: I’d be quite surprised if they aren’t playing games and becoming influenced by games. Now let me say this about the video game, which I don’t have in the house yet. Since I’ve seen the movie in 3-D IMAX, I don’t know if I can even play the game. The experience was so gigantic in the theater with the 3-D dragon and Grendel, Ubisoft’ll really have to add some new story lines and levels that include plot beyond the movie for me to get really enthused. Such is the conundrum when movie technology, however inspired by game technology, trumps what can be done in a video game.

Spyro The Dragon Burning On To Screens?

Computer games have rarely – sorry, never – made good movies. Ever. But maybe that's because movie makers have almost always chosen to adapt games with real humans in them. Maybe the answer is cute little purple dragons.

The Animation Picture Company will certainly be hoping so as they've just secured the movie rights to Spyro the Dragon, the star of a '90s computer game by Sierra Entertainment and Vivendi.

We were a good ten years too old to play Spyro, but it was essentially about a little lavender-coloured dragon who flew around collection treasure and doing bad things to bad people. The animated movie version will reportedly be based on recent Legend of Spyro game trilogy, which is considered a relaunch of the title. Dr. Dolittle scribes Steve and Dan Altiere have been hired to write the script. So that's a really terrific start. Expect this to be, y'know, for kids.

"Spencer Halpin's Moral Kombat" at the IT Came Film Festival.

'Spencer Halpin's Moral Kombat' documentary on violence in videogames to screen at Wisconsin film festival.

Generation: Gamerz (http://www.generationgamerz.com), proud gaming sponsor of the It Came from Lake Michigan Film Festival (http://www.itcamefromlakemichigan.com) today announced that ‘Spencer Halpin's Moral Kombat' documentary on the violence in videogames debate will screen both Saturday 27 October and Sunday 28 October 2007 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with Spencer Halpin being present Saturday. Shot entirely in high-definition video, the full-length feature documentary studies the controversial, polarizing subject of video game violence through a series of interviews with experts on both sides of the matter - some believing that violent games should be banned, others supporting their protection under the First Amendment.

"What the film does best is make you think, makes you open your mind and listen to both sides of a very important debate." said Thomas Balistreri, General Manager of Generation: Gamerz, LLC., "we are very excited to have this opportunity to show everyone Mr. Halpin's documentary about a debate critical to our industry."

Interviewees in the film are leading politicians, journalists, academics, consumer advocates and special interest group executives, game developers, retailers, trade associations and publishers. The interviewees among others, include: Dr. David Walsh, Jack Thompson, Dr. Michael Rich, Lorne Lanning, Greg Fischbach, Dean Takahashi, Jeff Griffiths, John Marmaduke, Pamela Eakes, Andy McNamara, Greg Ballard, Bob McKenzie, American McGee, Hal Halpin, Lt.
