Metal Gear Solid Touch iPhone and iPod Touch video game
Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. announced today that the full version of METAL GEAR SOLID TOUCH has launched on the Apple App Store. Set in the immersive world of METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS and created with the concept of allowing players to "touch" upon the world of METAL GEAR SOLID, the highly anticipated full version of the game introduces eight additional gameplay levels to the iPhone and iPod touch.
Developed by Kojima Productions and designed specifically for the iPhone and iPod touch, METAL GEAR SOLID TOUCH unfolds in five chapters over a span of the 20 stages with familiar enemies attempting to keep Old Snake from accomplishing his mission. The characters featured in the latter eight stages of the story will feature new abilities, putting them in a class of their own. Powerful enemies, such as the remainder of the "B&B Corps" and the dreaded Gekko, along with unique gameplay mechanisms such as piloting Metal Gear REX in battle, will have players facing multiple challenges that can't be overcome by mere "tapping." The variety of new elements will test strategy and insight more than ever before.
Taking advantage of the iPhone's capabilities, players can shake their iPhone during Mantis Boss Battle to attack. Once all 20 stages have been cleared, a Survival Mode is unlocked, which lets players skip the story images and play stages consecutively without replenishing their life gauge.
As an added bonus, players will have access to over 30 original wallpapers that are available from Drebin's Shop. Drebin Points are awarded according to the score at the end of each stage. The wallpapers feature a variety of artwork that include unreleased illustrations by METAL GEAR SOLID character designer, Yoji Shinkawa, gorgeous 3D CG, as well as images that were designed using METAL GEAR SOLID as a motif.
Players who have already installed the initial release of METAL GEAR SOLID TOUCH can update to the complete version for free. For those who have yet to purchase the game, the complete version is available for purchase from the Apple App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. For players who just want a "touch" of METAL GEAR SOLID, Konami will soon be releasing METAL GEAR SOLID TOUCH Lite, a free version that players can use to sample the game. Can Nintendo's @ Play shop rival Apple's iTunes and App Store?
Open up the latest portable game gadget from Nintendo, the DSi, which goes on sale today, and you'll be able to log onto a new online store carrying a small catalogue of software titles. If you see one that grabs your interest, you can buy and download it to your device on the spot, with prices starting at $2.
This type of purchase probably doesn't seem exotic any more, thanks largely to Apple. Apple's App Store, which offers software for its iPhone and iPod Touch, has had 800 million downloads since it opened last summer. Now, other mobile gadgets like Nintendo's DSi are quickly creating their own retail outlets on the Web. Last week, for example, Research In Motion rolled out an online software store for its BlackBerry users, called BlackBerry App World. Smartphone makers Nokia and Palm have similar offerings on the way.

Write a Apple iPhone App and quit your job - 800 million downloads so far....
Todd Moore didn't foresee that he was about to embark on a new career when he bought his first Mac last year. It just sort of happened.
Moore, a 35-year-old Sterling resident, had been spending his working life pulling down six figures as a network security professional - a job he liked well enough.
But after reading a few get-rich-quick stories about programmers making good money from selling applications designed to run on the iPhone or iPod Touch, he decided to give it a go. How hard could it be?

Bookworm iPhone and iPod video game Apple's App Store
No 1 Digital Word Game Now Available for iPhone and iPod Touch
PopCap Games, the leading developer and publisher of casual games, today announced the launch of its hugely popular word game Bookworm for the iPhone and iPod touch. The game is available now for U.S.$4.99 from Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPod touch, or at: www.itunes.com/appstore/ Bookworm is the most popular digital word game of all time, and this new adaptation has been customized for Apple’s highly successful smart devices, and contains nearly the entire volume of words from the Oxford English Dictionary, plus a host of new features found only in this version.
“We’re thrilled to bring Bookworm to the iPhone and iPod touch because it’s a game so well suited for mobile play,” said Andrew Stein, director of mobile business development at PopCap Games. “You can play Bookworm in short bursts of a few minutes whenever and wherever you want, but it also offers great challenge for marathon word-builders with infinite replayability. What’s more, Bookworm, with its great new features like shake to scramble, is especially appealing given how effectively it takes advantage of the iPhone and iPod touch hardware to make gameplay faster and more intuitive than ever before.”
In Bookworm, players build words from contiguous letter tiles on a grid. Longer and more difficult words score more points and produce a variety of “gem tiles” that offer additional bonuses when used (and mega-bonuses when multiple gem tiles are used in a single word). Burning tiles sear through normal tiles, reaching the bottom of the grid quickly; they must be used before they reach the bottom, or the game ends.
Exclusive features in the iPhone and iPod touch version include:
Originally launched for Web and PC play in 2003, and the recipient of numerous accolades, including “Puzzle Game of the Year” and “Editor’s Choice” from top editorial critics, Bookworm has been a resounding success on traditional cell phones as well as smart phones such as Windows Mobile and BlackBerry devices since its first mobile debut in 2007. Bookworm marks PopCap’s second iPhone and iPod touch offering; Bejeweled 2 for iPhone and iPod touch has been among the top-selling games since its launch in mid-2008. Additional iPhone and iPod touch adaptations of PopCap’s casual games are planned for later this year and beyond.

Retro Classic With 21st Century Edge - Vector Tanks available worldwide on the iPhone and iPod Touch
Chillingo Ltd, Europe’s premier iPhone publisher has teamed up with Peter Hirschberg to deliver Vector Tanks – a 3D vector style shooter game on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Vector Tanks is the brainchild of programmer extraordinaire Peter Hirschberg, the inventor of the translucent vector effect technique in the mid 1990s – a technique which quickly became ubiquitous in arcade emulation implementations allowing programmers to enhance the visual qualities of vector style arcade games.
"Vector Tanks began when I decided I wanted to design a game for the iPhone that used a control scheme of a thumb placed on either side of the touch screen. I immediately thought "tank game" due to the unique controls that most of the early tank games had in the arcades. The iPhone platform is extremely powerful and really allowed me to take the graphics and game design a lot farther than I was originally hoping for. My passion is creating games that preserve what was great about the early arcade games and also take advantage today's graphics hardware. If you do it right, you can take a retro gaming experience and add an extra level or two of energy to it without sullying the spirit of the gameplay." said Mr. Hirschberg.
In Vector Tanks, the gamer is in command of a futuristic tank amid a surreal 3-dimensional battlefield. Retro gamers and fans of early arcade games will appreciate this classic video game battle of machine against machine - rendered in hyper-retro 3D vector style graphics and entertaining physics modeling.
“Mr Hirschberg has single handedly married the best features of a classic 3D vector style retro shooter game with the unique user interface of the iPhone allowing another generation of gamers to appreciate the coolness of this classic retro game genre. “ said Chris Byatte, Director of Chillingo Ltd. Chillingo is the publisher of high quality games such as Zen Bound™, Orions: Legend of Wizards, Sneezies, iDracula, The Quest and iPingPong 3D in Apple’s App Store.

Vector Tanks is priced at USD2.99 and is available now through Apple’s App Store.
Scrap! 360 degree Tetris video game on iPhone and iPod Touch
SCRAP! for the iPhone and the iPod Touch is the first 360 degree puzzle game that takes a new spin on a classic office time-killer.
It has been 25 years since TETRIS was released. Despite all of its minor graphical enhancements, TETRIS has never really changed. In response to the demands of a more challenging puzzle scenario by today’s gamers, Splitcode released its first title called SCRAP! for the iPhone and the iPod Touch.
“Every puzzle game can become boring after the first couple of plays,” says Jeremy, Lead Designer for Splitcode. “People want something that can challenge their intellect as well as their hand-eye coordination! The goal for SCRAP!’s design, was to create a puzzle game that was as challenging as it is addictive”.
By putting a completely different spin on block-building puzzle games; SCRAP! keeps you on your toes by making you stack up pieces on a 360 degree environment, and then randomly switches the sides each time you complete a side.
In addition to SCRAP!, Splitcode released SCRAP! Lite, a free trial version of the game to allow players a chance to become comfortable with the game’s touch controls. SCRAP! Lite also provides the player with a preview of its original music score and a YouTube video to show players how to play and utilize the features of the game right from their iPhone and iPod Touch.

“We’ve been hugely impressed with the wonderful opportunities for gaming provided by the iPhone OS and can't wait to finally put our first title, Rolando, in the hands of iPhone and iPod touch gamers everywhere,” said Simon Oliver, Founder of HandCircus. “We've been working hard since the Apple App Store launched to bring Rolando to life, carefully crafting it to take full advantage of the unique features of iPhone & iPod touch.”In Rolando, players use the accelerometer and the innovative Multi-Touch user interface of iPhone and iPod touch to guide their playful Rolandos through four visually-distinct worlds and 36 engaging levels filled with physics puzzles, pesky enemies and clever surprises. Rolando invites players to manipulate the game’s environment by interacting with over a dozen whimsical gizmos, ranging from lifts and drawbridges to catapults and bomb dispensers.
Wonderfully crafted by Simon Oliver’s HandCircus microstudio, Rolando’s signature style combines incredible gameplay with the bouncing rhythms of renowned break-beat artist Mr. Scruff with the vibrant, endearing visuals of pop illustrator Mikko Walamies. Rolando’s addictive approach to gameplay and memorable presentation are prominently featured in video previews available now on the Rolando website (http://rolando.ngmoco.com).
Rolando also features ngmoco’s unique iSave feature, which saves and restores progress whenever play is stopped or interrupted at exactly the place players left off. iSave and in-game checkpoints allow Rolando players to play at their own pace wherever and whenever they like.
Rolando is available for $9.99 from Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=299461156&mt=8
