Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN F1 Esports driver Opmeer crowned World Champion

Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN F1 Esports driver, Jarno Opmeer, claimed his first drivers’ world title in the F1 Esports series, bringing the trophy to Hinwil for the first time in the team’s history. Going into the final race in Interlagos with a 16-point advantage over Red Bull’s Frede Rasmussen, the Dutchman coolly brought it home in P7 to claim the crown, also cementing Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN second place in the constructors’ standings.

Races in Suzuka, Mexico and Brazil brought the season to an end, and they were three spectacular events that saw both championships go down to the wire. A cagey affair in Japan saw Jarno finish just off the podium in P4, with team-mate Daniel Bereznay nursing quickly-degrading tyres to come home ninth. A win by Rasmussen reduced Jarno’s advantage in the standings, but the comeback was to be delivered in the penultimate round in Mexico City.

2020 F1 Esports series driver Jarno Opmeer keeps Alfa Romeo Racing on top

Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN driver Jarno Opmeer continued to stamp his authority on the 2020 F1 Esports series with a win and two podiums in the second week of action of the championship. The Dutch racer is now up to 123 points, 27 clear of Red Bull’s Marcel Kiefer, with the team in second place in the constructors’ championship.
Racing in Zandvoort, Montreal and Spielberg, the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN racers had to face a resurgent Red Bull duo of Kiefer and Frede Rasmussen, which had emerged as the main title threat in the first round of races. Heading into uncharted territory in the Netherlands, on a track on which Formula One has yet to race, Opmeer narrowly missed on pole position; team-mate Daniel Bereznay, meanwhile, was unfortunate to miss out on a slot in Q2 on a track where overtaking is notoriously difficult. Splitting strategies, with Opmeer starting on softs and Bereznay on mediums, the duo set off to bring home a good haul of points.

Counter Strike: GO eSports Game joins Dota 2 by surpassing $100M prize money

CS:GO (Counter Strike: GO) has joined the exclusive club of eSports games with a prize pool exceeding $100 million. It reached this milestone in August 2020 and as of September 14, had awarded a total of $100.87 million.

Dota 2, a brainchild of Valve just like CS:GO, is the top ranking eSports game in this regard. As of the same date, it had awarded a total of $226.78 million.

CS:GO Largest Ever Prize Pool Was $1.5M, Compared to Dota 2’s $34.3M

While CS:GO awarded its total prize pool across 5,184 tournaments, Dota 2 only had 1,415 tournaments under its belt. The reason for this disparity has to do with Dota 2’s championship, The International. In 2019, this tournament awarded the highest prize pool on record, amounting to $34.33 million. The amount was split among 18 teams, a total of 90 players. CS:GO managed to surpass the $100 million mark because of its high number of tournaments.

First ROG MASTERS eSports Tournament in Kuala Lumpur

ASUS’ debut tournament ROG MASTERS 2016 finished in mid-November to the thunderous applause of 3,000 spectators, who filled the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Following six weeks of regional online qualifiers, the Grand Finals brought together 20 Dota 2 and CS:GO teams from all across Asia, Oceania and the Middle East in an event streamed to over 430,000 people.

Over the course of September and October, five regional online qualifiers – all of them watched by between 35,000 and 65,000 people – made a space for rookies to show their home crowds their best, and in the offline playoffs big hitters like Fnatic and Team Secret faced semi professionals from India, China and Australia. And throughout the whole tournament, analysis and commentary came from respected casters such as Toby “TobiWan” Dawson and Iain “SnypeR” Turner.
