Sony have disabled the 'Other OS' option on PlayStation 3 to stop users exploiting the option to hack the console. So, no more Linux on the PS3? not according to George Hotz who wrote on his blog...

PS 3 memory usage slashed as operating system re-write

One of PlayStation 3's original memory weaknesses was its large Operating System memory footprint, but it's been slashed. The console originally had an OS footprint of around 120MB's spread accross both the XDR and DDR Ram, which was soon reduced to 96MB (64MB on XDR and 32MB on DDR).

Sony lose $40 per PS3 down from $250 - soon they could make PlayStation 3 pay...

iSupply report shows a current PlayStation 3 Slim costs Sony $336.27 to make, that's down nearly $500 from the $805 Sony paid to produce a single PS3 at launched. Even at the lowered price of $299, Sony are losing $37 per PS3.

"In light of these factors, the PlayStation 3 probably is already at or near the tipping point for profitability," iSuppli's Andrew Rassweiler concluded.

First look at the Final Fantasy XIII PlayStation 3 bundle

Square Enix have teamed up with Sony to produce this white limited edition PS3 Slim to complement the release of Final Fantasy XIII video game.
The console has a light pink render from the game on the front with the game logo appearing in pink above the Blu-ray drive. To complement the package a white controller is also included along with the game.
The game is a PlayStation exclusive available in Japan, but if it's successful may cross the water...

Games consoles are always on Santa's list so I've put this guide together to help you select the best one for your needs.

You have three main players Sony's PlayStation 3, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii. Most shops offer deals on 'bundles' where they add games and quote discount prices, beware that the console price is not discounted and the games they 'bundle' are not good value most could be picked up for less than they quote they're worth. So check the game reviews online in this blog or go for the extra controller or cable (more later on cables) offers. Make sure it's an official controller and not some cheap third party junk.

New Nintendo DSi the DSi LL with bigger screen - first images and spec...

Nintendo has announced that, less than a year after the launch of the DSi, a brand new, bigger, better DSi is on the way. We had already heard that a DSi with a bigger screen was coming, but today we have been given the new system's name, as well as the first images and specs.

The DSi LL will be getting a chunkier stylus, but aside from that, standalone pics of the system don't make it look any different from your average DSi. However, put it next to an older model and the significant size difference is clear. The DSi LL is ludicrously larger than the DSi.

In the half year to the end of September sales were down by 40% compared with the year before. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has no option but to admit: “Nintendo Wii has stalled.” He even admitted that the price drop has failed to arrest the decline: “With the price drop, sales returned to a certain level, but they just did not reach the level of last year around this time”. Which was all as inevitable as night follows day.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announce the arrival on shelves on October 1st of the all-new PSPgo (PlayStation Portable) with an RRP of €249.99.

Sony to launch PSP 3000 Gran Turismo bundle

Sony are to release a new limited edition bundle for its UMD-compatible PSP 3000, offering the hardware with a copy of Gran Turismo for $ 199.99.

Due for release in the US and Canada on October 20 - a few weeks after the launch of the upcoming digital-only PSPgo - the hardware bundle will come with the console in mystic silver, the racing game on UMD, a 2GB memory stick and three download vouchers; for a white Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 not already in the game, for ten songs from the Sony Music Pass service and for a PlayStation Network film yet to be confirmed.

At a press conference held during Gamesom last month, SCEE announced it would be offering early adaptors of the new PSPgo in PAL regions a free, full digital copy of Gran Turismo with their purchase, however this offer has yet to be confirmed for US consumers.

Tesco to sell PSPgo at discount in UK at under £200 (still more expensive than a PlayStation 3 slim)

Tesco, the UK retailer has listed the PSPgo for £199.97 ($329.98) that's less than Sony RRP of £224.99 ($371.34).

Most of the other retailers have stayed with RRP. The supermarket have not only undercut the price they also offer Free delivery on all pre-orders. So, the PSPgo will be more expensive that the PlayStation 3 slim!

Their release date is listed as October 2nd 2009 (one day later than Sony's).
