About the game...
Witness the rebirth of a genre in Lumo – a classic isometric adventure with a modern twist for gamers young and old alike! As a contemporary take on the long-lost isometric platform genre, Lumo can be enjoyed by anyone looking for an absorbing, challenging and rewarding adventure. But for those who lived through the golden age of videogames – the 80s and early 90s – or know about the games and culture from that time, layer upon layer of nods, winks and touches to those times help build upon an experience that’s as heart-warming as it is exciting!
Head Over Heels was the first game I ever owned and had a lasting impact on me, both as a player and aspiring designer - I spent a fun summer designing additional rooms for the game back when I was an 11yo - and I'd always fancied trying my hand at an isometric game in the style of those old classics. Obviously, these aren't commercially viable for most publishers, so I never pitched the concept, but thanks to a drunken conversation on twitter with Ste Pickford (who happened to have made another of my favourite Iso games, Equinox, for the SNES) I made a quick prototype at the end of November 2013 and decided that it was a game that excited me, and that I had enough ideas to make it a reality. Lumo answers the question: "what would happen if an old school isometric game collided with a modern GPU"...
