First PSP minis title, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess! (MPSMP), will launch on April 22nd priced at £3.49. MPSMP is a brand-new, original IP that will initially be released exclusively for Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PlayStation 3 (PS3) as a download from Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) Store.
The title will be available on both PSP and PS3 and at exactly 100MB will be one of the largest games to date on the minis platform.
In the game, the player takes control of a massively powerful (and slightly unhinged) aristocratic demon known only as “The Duke” who is woken up by the sound of his princess being stolen from her heavily barricaded room in his castle. Without a single clue to go on, he can only assume that monsters were (probably) responsible, and sets out to track down his missing princess by beating up monsters largely at random in the hope that it will (somehow) reunite him with his beloved princess.
The game is an upwards-scrolling platformer in which the player must chase down giant fleeing monsters and subdue them by crashing into them three times. As the player touches platforms on the way up they will build up a combo, delighting the Duke and increasing his speed and power to enable him to unleash increasingly over-the-top finishing moves to defeat the monsters.
Mediatonic’s co-founder and creative director Paul Croft said: “This is our first time working on the PSP and it’s been an amazing experience for us, resulting in what we hope is a really special game. The extra power and flexibility of the PSP has allowed us take everything we’ve learned from creating original titles for the web and iPhone and push ourselves to new limits - both technologically and creatively. We’re extremely excited by the end result and hope that our players will be too. Sony has been helpful and supportive throughout the project and we’re already planning our next minis title. We believe that minis are a fantastic platform for indie developers.“
Writer and designer Jim Griffiths said: “Our goal was to create a game that was accessible and fun, supported by a story and characters that make you laugh - or at least crack a grin. So we've worked really hard to cram as much humour and attention to detail as we could into every aspect of ‘Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess!’, and now we're very much hoping this effort translates into something players will really appreciate and enjoy!”
“Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess” is rated 12+ for “Violence”, “Sex” and “Bad Language” by the Pan-European Game Information (PEGI).
