LittleBigPlanet video game features Stephen Fry

LittleBigPlanet, one of the year’s most anticipated and highly scored games for the PS3, features an introduction and tutorials voiced by Stephen Fry. Sidelines writer Dean Wilkinson was commissioned to work on this material, injecting a mix of humour and personality into the writing for that special Fry style. He also worked on the in-game text, renamed characters and extended their personalities and interaction.

Sini Downing, Sidelines Agency Director commented, “Dean joined Sidelines with extensive television comedy writing experience under his belt; while he was new to the interactive industry when he wrote for LBP he immediately understood the vibe the guys were looking for in the writing. He managed to get that careful balance of information and fun.”

Can Microsoft’s exclusive Boku kill PS3 LittleBigPlanet Sackboy?

All the news is coming in and personally not good news either, yes we will defend the PS3 and if anyone thinks that Microsoft’s exclusive game title “Boku” will kill the PS3 LittleBigPlanet Sackboy you should really put your head back into the sand.

Personally we think it is a good idea for a little competition as this really does help sales, and come on we all know how popular LittleBigPlanet is.

Many are saying that the all new yet to be released game called Boku will top sales and become the latest game craze, Boku is User Generated Content. Watch the video below please and then do comment with your views.

LittleBigPlanet video game to take user-generated creativity to new levels, providing it can first overcome the jitters of a sensitive Sony...

little big planet video game
LittleBigPlanet, probably the most anticipated videogame this year (about which we have talked before) has been for delayed a few weeks. Usually, such a stall would be down to last minute bugs found in the code or something rather mundane. No-one expected something like LBP to be delayed due to an outbreak of corporate religious sensitivity.

The problem was discovered in one of the pieces of music licensed for the soundtrack, specifically a piece by Toumani Diabate which contained two expressions which are found in the Qur’an. This discovery appears to have triggered a spasm of corporate religious sensitivity with Sony immediately recalling all copies globally and Guildford-based developer Media Molecule left ‘shellshocked and gutted’. A new date for the game has since been announced.

Sony’s Playstation 3, on which the game is based, has had a previous well publicised conflict with a major religious organisation. Last year they fell into a well-publicised dispute with the Church of England over the use of the interior of Manchester Cathedral as an environment within their ‘Resistance : Fall of Man’ title. Clearly, they don’t want to enter the same kind of conflict again - and in particular not with something as family-friendly as the LBP brand.

Perhaps what’s most interesting here though, is the precedent implied for LBP as a platform for user-expression. It’s one of the flag-bearers for the idea of user generated content, the game itself is essentially a tool to allow the player to create more levels and share them with others. On the evidence of the beta version, which players have been using for a few weeks, it’s a startlingly powerful one. LBP is intended to be a place for free creativity and expression, so it’s going to be very interesting to watch the corporate reactions as the game evolves with the public expressing themselves within it.

After all, the previous poster-child was Will Wright’s Spore - and we all remember what happened there…

Little Big Planet video game release delayed in Europe

little big planet video game
Sony's PlayStation 3 LittleBigPlanet video game's world release has been delayed.

A problem with the soundtrack (references to the Qu'ran) have caused the delay.

With the increasing use of licensed music in video games this problem hasn't come to light until the game was released for review. One of the music tracks used in the game contains two references to the Qu'ran that may cause offense.

The game has been shipped to retailers and will have to be recalled. The original launch date of October 24 will now become November 14th (estimate).

Sony have put a lot of money behind the game launch with PS3 bundles and maximum publicity.

Super Mario v Sackboy in Little Big Planet on PS3

http://gamezplay.org video games

Super Mario - Sonic The Hedgehog get out the way - for Sackboy - he's about to become a worldwide celebrity.

This little cloth man is being pushed by video games giant Sony as their defining mascot and he’s British.

Sony, who are pumping millions into the character, reckon every child in the world will want their own virtual character in the next few months.

Little Big Planet ... PlayStation reckon Second Life is soon to be second best

Sackboy was created by Media Molecule, with just 25 staff in Guildford, Surrey.

Released worldwide the game Little Big Planet - PlayStation 3 in October.

It's a cross between platform gaming and the sort of social networking seen on sites like MySpace.

Players start with a 'naked' Sackboy who they can customize in different clothes.

They then meet friends online and either create their own worlds or play in ones created by other people.

Girls will have their own version — unsurprisingly called Sackgirl.

PlayStation reckon that in months the game’s community will have easily outnumbered online worlds such as Second Life.

He’s a charming and personable character people will take to and the fact you can dress him up how you like will appeal.

The emphasis of Little Big Planet, the biggest PS3 release yet, is on design and customisation.

The release will be backed up by worldwide Sackboy merchandise and small dolls of the iconic figure are being produced.

The head of Media Molecule, Mark Healey, was approached three years ago by senior Sony executives desperate to snap up exclusive rights for using Sackboy.

Mario, one of the planet’s most recognisable figures, has made Sony rival Nintendo billions.
