Tips for the Generation 2 Pokémon Go latest update iOS Android 3DS features

The latest Gen 2 Pokémon Go update is finally here. It adds a load of new Pokémon but the game has also changed or added in a number of things.

New Berries
PokéStops are also now offering up new Berries, namely the Nanab and Pinap Berries.
The Pinap Berry will give you extra Candy if your next throw after the Berry is successful in catching the Pokémon.
The Nanab Berry on the other hand, will temporarily calm down the Pokémon and stop it from making erratic movements.

Pokémon turning into Ditto
When Ditto was added to the game trainers were excited because they had been waiting a long time for Ditto. Here are the Pokemon from Generation 2 update who reportedly have turned into Ditto.
  • Hoothoot
  • Yanma
  • Sentret
  • Spinarak (unconfirmed)
Higher attack levels for most Pokémon
With the update, Niantic has apparently done another round of re-balancing of the attacks and special attacks of almost every Pokémon.
If you open up any Pokémon's statistics, you'll probably see that most of them have been slightly increased in power.

Evolution items make an appearance
Talking about evolving, you can now evolve certain Pokémon into other forms by using a combination of Candies and special Evolution items that you get from spinning PokéStops.
For example, you can evolve a Poliwhirl or an Onyx into something else if you have the appropriate Evolution item (and enough Candies).

Rarer Generation 2 Pokémon
Some of the higher CP Pokémon are rarer - Tyranitar which is essentially the Dragonite equivalent. Blissey also tends to be a top choice for trainers. It’s possible Blissey won’t be as common in some areas. Ampharos (rough equivalent to Lapras) and Scizor (rough equivalent to Lapras) are also favorite fighters.
Smeargle and Delbird haven’t been found in the game at all yet. They can easily be listed as the most rare Pokémon from Generation 2. They may appear later in the game, like Ditto did. This is likely because these two Pokemon have different moves that may take longer to code, similar to what happened to Ditto.
Unown is also a rare Pokémon. No one has verified finding Unown. Even if this Unown is confirmed, it still appears to be quite rare.

New Eevee evolve tricks
In the first generation, we could evolve Eevees into one of three types by changing the name to Sparky, Pyro or Rainer and then evolving to turn the Eevee into a Jolteon, Flareon or Vaporeon respectively.
In this second-generation update, there's a new trick to evolve the Eevee into new forms – try changing the name to Tamao or Sakura and evolve it and see what you get.

Beware of behaviour
One of the new things that Pokémon Go has introduced is that each Pokémon has now got a wider range of dodges in their arsenal – instead of up and down dodging, these Pokémon are also likely to dodge from side-to-side, making it a little harder to catch.
So when throwing your PokéBalls, you now need to take into account this side-to-side movement as well.
Alternatively, you can use one of the new Nanab Berries to calm it down (as above).

Six legendary Generation 2 Pokémon
Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, and Celebi. Expect not to find these in the game, as the legendaries from Generation 1 still haven’t appeared yet.
Some of the new Pokémon are very common. Hoothoot is like Spearow, Sentret is like Rattata, Spinarak is like Caterpie, Ledyba is like Weedle and Marill & Natu are also very common

With the latest Pokémon GO game update, new Pokémon evolution options will give players the ability to use new Evolution items to evolve their Pokémon into ones that were originally discovered in the Johto region. While catching Pokémon, Trainers can use two new Berries—the Nanab Berry, which slows a Pokémon’s movements, and the Pinap Berry, which doubles the amount of Candy received if the next catch attempt succeeds. Trainers will also be able to customize their avatar’s appearance with a new selection of hats, shirts, pants, and other items. Additional items will be available for purchase from the in-game Pokémon GO shop.
