Rio 2016 hopeful Katarina Johnson-Thompson has swapped the track for one of London’s tallest rooftops to launch the world’s first ‘free runner delivery service’ for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, available today in retail stores and as a digital download on Xbox One, Origin for PC and PlayStation 4.
Embodying the fight and determination of the heroine from the game having secured a place at Rio 2016, Katarina Johnson-Thompson has taken a break from training to launch the parkour delivery service – or ‘parkourier service’ – provided parkour athletes who will be carrying out daring jumps and tricks, reminiscent of those in the game, to deliver Mirror’s Edge Catalyst to players faster than ever before.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst players will also have the opportunity to access a Katarina inspired challenge within the game. Once you complete the Mischief Maker critical path mission, Social Play is unlocked in the game and players can then keep an eye out for the Katarina Johnson-Thompson Challenge exclusively on the game map.
The game invites you to step into the shoes of Faith - a self-assured Runner thrown into a struggle against the oppressive Conglomerate in the city of Glass. Explore Glass from the beautifully lit rooftops to the dark and gritty tunnels below. Run free in the city districts with Faith at the centre of it all. Through the first-person perspective, use your fluid movement and combat skills to master the environment and become the catalyst of change.
Katarina Johnson-Thompson said, “I was relieved to get the qualifiers out the way so I can focus on getting ready for the Games. You always have ups and downs in athletics and these only make you stronger. Doing what I do, I have to be determined and focussed to achieve my goals and you might draw comparisons with the main character from Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, Faith. The way she fearlessly scales rooftops and jumps from building to building in the game is epic, it’s every athlete’s dream, if only it wasn’t so dangerous!”
Alice Brandvik, Senior Product Marketing Manager, said, “Parkour and fluid movement is central to the game so what better way to bring players Mirror’s Edge Catalyst than through a parkourier service? In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, we take Faith on a journey from a character to a true heroine, telling the origin of her story. Katarina perfectly personifies her endearing self-belief and perseverance and it’s great to see her bringing the character to life.”
