A 1.0.1.4 patch should be released soonish. It's unknown what else it will address, but it is confirmed that it will attempt to address some stuttering issues people have been having.
Tales of Zestiria |
- Most instances of this appear to be caused by systems being set to use surround sound. Setting your system audio to Stereo may solve this, or otherwise disabling surround sound.
- Unplugging headsets may resolve this, but if you need to use your headset then you'll want to go into your system's audio control panel and see if you can configure your headset to use Stereo (some headsets use surround).
- If you have any software associated with your headset installed, you can try updating it, as this as helped some users.
- Look in your system's sound control panel and try to disable any audio devices you're not using.
- If you can at least get into the game and start a new game or load an existing one, there is an in-game option to set your audio to Stereo. When you start a new game, a page of options will show up and you can scroll down it to see the speaker options. Select Stereo there. You can access these options even after you have started a game, by opening up the menu with E on the keyboard or Y on the gamepad and selecting the option on the far right.
- If these still don't fix it, go into your Steam library and right click on the game, then select Properties. Select the Local Files tab and click Verify Integrity of Game Cache. This will make sure all the files downloaded correctly and redownload anything which is missing or incorrect.
Black screen / Monitor out of range:
- Try using Alt+TAB to tab out, and then Alt+TAB back into it. This helps some people.
- If the above does not help, you may need to create a config file. Locate or create this directory: C:\Users\_username_\AppData\Local\BANDAI NAMCO Games\Tales of Zestiria (replace _username_ with whatever your system username is)
- If there is no TOZ.cfg file in that directory, you can download one I've created with safe settings that should start the game in windowed mode so you can at least get into the game and change the settings yourself. Alternatively, you can edit the file with a text editor.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6qSRWcJ4yUMS2xabXRlSWc3X2c - Save that file in the directory listed above and then start the game.
- This may be caused by a 5.1 audio issue as well. Try unplugging headsets or setting your audio to Stereo.
- Under the system sound control panel, you can try right clicking on your default sound device and go into its properties. Under there, in the Advanced tab you can try setting the audio quality to 16 bit - 48khz DVD Quality as this has helped some people.
- Distorted text is an issue that has occurred on Intel HD GPUs before in other games.
- If you have an Intel HD GPU you can try updating your drivers to see if it resolves this issue: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu
- Either disable your anti-virus or have it exclude the Zestiria game files.
- If files were removed, you may need to do an integrity check on the game files, which you can do under the Steam properties dialog for the game.
- The game does support vsync, but it is off by default. If enabling it in the graphics settings of the game does not solve the screen tearing, you may need to force it on in your video card's graphics control panel.
- In your graphics card's control panel, try enabling Triple Buffering to help smooth things out.
- You can try changing the refresh rate the game initializes the display at. The game simulation runs at 30fps, so if your refresh rate doesn't line up with the simulation then you might have some issues.
- You can edit the TOZ.cfg file under your C:\Users\_username_\AppData\Local\BANDAI NAMCO Games\Tales of Zestiria\ directory with a text editor.
- Try changing refreshRateHz line to "refreshRateHz=60", save it and run the game.
- If you still have severe stuttering after this, then supposedly they are releasing a 1.0.1.4 patch soon which might address it.
- Your monitor or video card may have settings which allow you to readjust the output to counter the stretching.
- If that is not an option for you, then you can try to run the game in Windowed mode at a 16:9 resolution.
- If you have a machine with both an Intel HD GPU and an Nvidia GPU, it's possible your system defaulted to your Intel HD GPU. Go into the game's directory under Steam\SteamApps\common\Tales of Zestiria\, right click on the Zestiria executable and there should be a context menu option to select your Nvidia GPU as the default.
- If you have an Intel HD GPU you can try updating your drivers as it has been reported to improve performance: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu
- If you have an Nvidia GPU, you might try going into your Nvidia Control Panel and setting Physx to run on your CPU instead of your GPU, or vice versa.
- This was a known issue before release and was announced ahead of time.
- Start the game once, then exit and restart it. After that you're fine.
- This issue will be fixed in a few days.
- Unconfirmed, but reported here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/351970/discussions/0/490123727973314384/
- Due to licensing issues, using the Steam Broadcasting feature is disabled. However, you can still use 3rd party screen recording software to stream to Twitch or upload to YouTube.
- English cinematic intro plays instead of Japanese with Japanese audio selected:
- The Japanese intro is included in the game, but it's not certain whether they intend to have the Japanese version play when you select Japanese.
- You can force the Japanese intro to play instead of the English one by renaming the Japanese version as the English version.
- Go into your Steam\SteamApps\common\Tales of Zestiria\RAW\MOVIE directory.
- Rename AM_TOZ_OP_001.bk2 to AM_TOZ_OP_001_original.bk2
- Then rename AM_TOZ_OP_001_JPN.bk2 to AM_TOZ_OP_001.bk2
- If they fix this issue in the future, you'll want to rename these back or simply verify integrity.
- Thanks to Shinrin Cole (http://steamcommunity.com/id/Shinrincole) for noticing this.
Known Issues - Misconceptions
No intro cinematic plays when the game starts
- This is by design. There is an intro cinematic and it will play, but you unlock the intro cinematic by making progress in the game. Afterwards it will play each time you start the game.
- The game defaults to keyboard/mouse in the menus, so you may need to navigate through the settings with the cursor keys to set Player 1 to use the gamepad before it will work in the menus.
- Considering some people might try to play the game in Big Picture Mode, it should really probably enable the gamepad by default if it is detected.
- This means you are in a tutorial. You will not take damage or deal damage until you do what the tutorial is asking of you.
- Yes, you can. Once you're in game, you can open the game menu by pressing E on the keyboard or Y on the gamepad.
- Select the option on the far right of the list which will unfold 2 more options. The cogwheel there will bring you back to the settings you saw when you first started your game.
- Unlike the general game config, these settings are assumed to be saved inside your game's save file.
Resolutions:
- Up to 4K, which is a vast improvement over the PS3 version's 720p and a respectable improvement over the PS4's 1080p. 21:9 ultra-wide resolutions may cause stretching.
- FXAA. This may mean it only supports post-processing anti-aliasing, but with GeDoSaTo and/or Nvidia DSR this shouldn't be an issue especially with native support for 4K resolutions. The screenshot comparisons we've seen between PS3 and PS4 have showed marked improvement on aliasing, so we might find that whatever anti-aliasing they have is sufficient combined with the higher resolution.
- 30fps. They tried 60fps, but ran into game balance and animation issues in the battle system. Durante made a post on his blog that may suggest he is planning to look into Zestiria. With any luck it might be possible to run Zestiria at 60fps outside of battle with a fix. This is less a porting issue and more an engine issue, so banging pitchforks will not solve it.
- So far, at 30fps it has run completely smooth and even some people using Intel HD integrated graphics have had solid framerates.
- PC version will have higher render distance options unlocked, which may help resolve some complaints people had with the PS3 version where nearby objects like grass, trees, etc would just suddenly appear which was distracting. They said the PS4 version will have twice the render distance of the PS3, but they provided an even higher configurable setting for PC.
- The texture resolution has been increased for PS4 and PC. It's currently assumed that the PC texture resolution is the same as the PS4.
- The PS3 version was about 8GB with 16GB of additional blu-ray video data while the PC version is about 12GB total. The PS4 version is also confirmed to be 12GB, but it's unknown if it will use blu-ray video as well.
