Hacking Drone:
When you first start The Swindle, your only way of taking out guards is to get behind them and whack 'em over the head, but as things progress you'll be able to start taking them out from a distance - here I've hacked one of the building's security drones, and it's bashed through the door and taken out a couple of guards for me.
The Swindle will release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Steam and PlayStation Vita on July 28th, on Xbox One on July 31st and Wii U shortly after.
Inventory:
All the cash you steal from a building can be spent on upgrades- some are tools that can be activated in the field to take out guards and get a better haul. This is everything from bombs to help you get through walls, to bugs that'll keep cash trickling in long after you've made your getaway...
ListenerBots:
Most enemies can see you, but some have microphones attached. Being heard won't set off any alarms, but it will trigger a guard's special abilities. Here, a couple of ListenerBots have heard me, and are spewing out these mini-drones to seek out the thief and chase her away.
Planning:
The Swindle's buildings and thieves are randomly-generated. This cheeky purple-haired tealeaf is trying to decide whether it's smarter to hack her way in through the front door, or smash through the window in a blaze of glory and take out that gas-bot.
Spikes:
Spikes are one of the more basic security measures a building can have - but they're always effective. There's nothing worse than cleverly stealing all the cash from a building and on your way to the escape pod forgetting about a set of spikes and losing everything.
The Swindle is a platforming, action and stealth game set in a Victorian Steampunk world. All the levels are procedurally generated and it is the player’s job, as a master thief, to break into buildings, steal cash, hack systems and get out. Players must start small by robbing from the slums and upgrade their skills and abilities until they can pull off the ultimate heist in Scotland Yard.
Developer and owner of Size Five Games Dan Marshall says: “The Swindle is the kind of game that I always wanted to play; one minute you're sneaking past robot security guards to grab a load of loot and the next you're being chased by police choppers and drones, desperately trying to avoid capture and an awkward-and-embarrassing death. Procedurally generated adventures are all the rage these days – but there's nothing with stakes quite as high as The Swindle.”
Managing director of Curve Digital, Jason Perkins, comments: “We were seduced by The Swindle the moment we first encountered it – so it has been brilliant to play a part in the game leaping onto consoles. We’re really looking forward to seeing how players’ heists go down.”
