Elysian Shadows is an indie 2D/3D RPG being developed for Windows, OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, OUYA and Sega Dreamcast. The game fuses aspects of 16-bit classical RPGs such as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy, with a highly stylized, modern vision by using dynamic lighting, physics, and audio engines along with swapping between 2D and 3D perspectives.
The team and project are best known for their popular YouTube video blog series, "Adventures in Game Development," giving viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the development of Elysian Shadows, and the late nights, blood, sweat, and tears involved with developing an indie game.
Elysian Shadows, the indie RPG fusing aspects of 16-bit classics with modern lighting and sound, has secured a publishing deal with Watermelon Co. to bring the game to the Sega Dreamcast. Watermelon, the studio behind Pier Solar for the Sega Genesis, and now Pier Solar HD for the Dreamcast, is committed to producing high-quality physical releases for retro games, complete with jewel cases, instruction manuals, and professionally pressed discs complete with deluxe packaging.
Elysian Shadows, also targeting OUYA, iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, and Linux, just received initial funding through private investment, allowing the developers to work full-time bringing their vision to life before launching a Kickstarter campaign for continued funding. The campaign will launch on August 1st, and would allow the team to fund the game through completion, also bringing it to modern consoles such as the PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, PSVita, and 3DS.
