With Sony and Oculus VR entering the emersive area of virtual reality why did Facebook think paying $2 billion for a crowd funded kickstarter company was a good deal?
This does give Facebook a head start over Apple, Google, Microsoft and Nintendo who must all be thinking is it the future of interaction with games and the Internet?
Sony have already shown their hand with Project Morpheus but can Facebooks purchase of the intelectual property rights tie them down in such a way as to stop others producing similar products? I don't think so, so look forward to some similar Samsung vs Apple battles in the future.
Why $2 billion? when many think they could have accuired the start up for $2 million let alone billions.
VR headset are not new and we've had them before and the failed so it remains to be seen if the new crop of headset that could retail for $750 will take off with first games developers and then the public.
Or am I just missing the point?
