The game features a strong cast of new characters and brings back recurring character Teresa the blind seer played by Zoë Wanamaker (Harry Potter, Doctor Who, My Family).
The Side team cast actors for performance capture sessions, directed by Side’s award winning director Kate Saxon.
When casting for the game the Side team had to keep in mind all elements an actor can bring to performance capture role (physicality, voice, characterization), especially as Fable: The Journey required some very distinct physical types. These ranged from the young hero Gabriel, the buxom Betty, to the lumbering woodman. Distinct British accents had to be matched with physical type and in some cases horse handling skills.
While this instalment of the Fable series brings back the familiar hero’s journey, quirky humour, and caring for a companion animal, the roles also demanded more of the actors in terms of physical performances with shoots involving a fight director and working with a full-size cart and real horse.
Kate Saxon said: “Working on Fable: The Journey was a fantastic experience, as it always is working with the Lionhead team. This time there was the added dimension of MoCapping a horse who played Seren in the game. York gave a performance that was up there with the best actors!”
