The story of The Witcher 2 tells the story of Geralt of Rivia, a witcher. The history of his kind was explained in the previous recap movie released by the developers. As Geralt, the player will find himself deeply embroiled in a complex plot.
After saving king Foltest of Temeria from an assassination attempt, Geralt continues to protect him as the royal bodyguard. The Temerian kingdom is internally divided -- Baroness La Valette announced her secession from the realm and the king's army is preparing for the final assault. Geralt is among the royal soldiers divided between aiding the king and unveiling the identity of the mysterious assassin.
